I was asked to recommend some ACt books a little while back. Well, I have just finished 's new book 'things might go terribly, hooribly wrong' and it has really rounded up ACT quite nicely for me. The second part of the book describes the different parts of the ACT Hexaflex Model and each is given it's own chapter. What I found especially useful was the counter ballance given, i.e, there are times when fusion is good, and that being mindful 24/7 might not be helpful. But what riveted me most of all was the first chapters describing the universality of human suffering and this has really helped me.

I am also finding metitation a bit easier because I am not trying to relax when I do it. I have often said that when I try meditaition I get more tense but I can handle 3 to 5 minutes of it at a time. So this book has helped me on both of these points as well

All ACT books cover the universality of human suffering but I found myself realising after reading 's book that there is nothing absolutley wrong with me at all, and that all humans suffer like this to some degree. Now I might have suffered a bit more, or for a bit longer, but I'm not unique in any way. Now when I go out and meet people I don't feel so much like some unfortunate person who once had a diagnosis, because now I can see that everyone has these self doubts and anxiety. And there is nothing wrong with my brain chemistry either. Now this makes me feel much closer to people because I know that like me, they sometimes find life very difficult and painful. And that what all they want is to have people around them that truly appreciate them.

It is a very easy to read book and you can view some of it here:
