Guest guest
As promised, please see below for information requested from the UNOS KPD pilot program. We will be following up as part of the financial subcommittee to be able to move forward with more definitive information as soon as possible as this is an important issue for all of us. Please let me know if you have any questions. · Will there be a secure site to list recipient insurance information? 1. Currently, there is no secure site to list recipient insurance information. This request has not come up before, and I think it is something we can investigate. I would need to involve others here at UNOS to determine how we would comply with all the necessary security requirements around patient information. · What will the financial model be? 1. As I mentioned before, there is no set financial model currently. In the short term, there has been a suggestion to create a template for centers to use. There may be other long-term solutions as well, which we should have the KPD Financial Subcommittee discuss. · How much time will we have to work out details? 1. There is no time limit set for working out the details. We are asking centers to enter a “final” acceptance within approximately 1 month of the match run. However, if the centers are working out financial details at that point still, they can both enter a final acceptance. The only consequence is they would not be entered in the next match run. They can be re-activated for a match run at any point if the match they have found does not work out for any reason. We are just trying to avoid continuing the match pairs that are already pursuing a match. One of the things we are testing with this Pilot is what the appropriate time frames are for each step of the match process. So we can adjust the amount of time between match runs if that would make the system more efficient. We have included a place on our match run results report that will list the financial coordinator’s name and phone number for the matched donor or matched candidate if the center has provided that information to us. That way, the financial coordinators can begin their discussions quickly. · Is coverage a mandatory data entry process? 1. I believe at this time that insurance coverage is not required for the recipient to be included in the KPD Pilot Program, and we do not have that question included in the plans for the data entry tool in UNet. However, if that is information that would be useful to centers, we can include it in our data entry requirements. · What happens if centers decline based on the finances? 1. There is no consequence if the centers decline for any reason, including finances. We are asking that centers enter refusal reasons when they do decline so that we can work through the more common barriers.
