Hi Cherie,

Could you be exercising outside of your targeted heart rate? If so, you

could be burning muscle, rather than fat. A lot of people do cardio

workouts too strenuously, which they believe is a good thing, maybe burning

more calories and fat. Not true at all. What is a typical day's diet like?

Do you have a lot of energy normally?

Kenda - I run two miles, but have been doing it for so many years,

that I don't really even get out of breath. I also walk with my dog

a lot, hike in the woods, and in the summer I like to bike. I feel

more energetic now than I have in years. But if I get tired, when

most people would say " I need a nap " , I say I need to go for a

walk! My diet is in the morning I drink 16.9 oz bottle of water

first thing, then I juice organic fruit (large glass), have a bowl

of healthy cereal. I drink green tea with a spoon of organic sugar

and water throughout the day. I also juice organic vegetables at

lunch, and then try to find something healthy, maybe leftover

chicken and lettuce in a pita. Dinners are harder, cooking for the

whole family, but generally they are chicken or beef and when I

think about it, usually pasta or potatoes with each meal. Maybe

that's my problem. You have made me really think about this.

Thanks for taking the time to help!

Cherie, I need to get with the program!! With the exam crunch going

on here, I have not been eating like I should and not drinking much

water, and my body knows it!! Luckily my last final exam is

tomorrow and then I'll have a few weeks between semesters to take

care of myself. I ran into my Algebra teacher and she said I passed

the final, and my grade for the semester is B. Yippee. I took two

more exams today and I know I passed them, just don't know what the

grade in the classes are. The one that worries me is tomorrow's

exam, Accounting. I've been studying but I'm worried that I'll go

blank when I see the exam, since it's not my best subject.

I was really afraid you were going to say that. I feel so limited

as it is with what I can eat. I don't know how to eliminate that

and still feel satisfied. I gave up my coffee with french vanilla

creamer about a month ago - it had hydrogenated oil, along with

silicoaluminate in it. I really do feel better, but dissappointed

about the weight. Thanks for your help.

Sis - glad your exams are going good. One more day! Maybe you can

celebrate tomorrow night! Doing something healthy that is. How is

your weight? I wonder if some of my problem is the result of being

45. Hope tomorrow goes well with your last day of exams.

Cherie, I thought I heard that implants can cause our thyroid to act

up, even if something shows up in " normal " range on a blood test,

perhaps the level in your body was different pre-implant than it was

post, and therefore slowed everything down. It seems a very common

theme that people complain of weight gain after getting implants.

My very uneducated opinion is this - if you are feeling well, maybe

what you're doing isn't a bad thing. Maybe it's not helping your

weight at all right now, but if you're feeling better then it must

be helping your immune system.

Cherie - I actually lost 10 lbs with the implants. I gained it all

back, but in the past week have lost 5 again - perhaps since I'm not

feeling well, or because I'm stressed. I'm 45, too.

I barely slept last night, I think worrying about this last final

kept me up. Probably got about 2 or 3 hours of sleep all together.

After this is over, I have to start Christmas shopping. I haven't

even started yet, usually I'm done by now! My counselor said I

shouldn't let others expectations of the holiday put pressure on me,

but it's easier said than done.

Sis and Kenda

funny we are all 45

Sis - one of the many reasons I don't like christmas is because

people stress about it. We gave it up a few years ago, and it's

been basically a good thing. The only downfall is the world's

expections and trying to explain why we don't do it. Please don't

stress about it - in a year or so, no-one will even remember that

you didn't buy them a present in 2005, and if they love you, they

would rather see you rest and regain your strength.

Kenda, that is great that you have a personal trainer. What do they

do? Thank you for sharing - I took your advice and had two egg

whites for breakfast. I guess I get those pasta cravings at

dinnertime, and its hard to give up. I have to think of some more

options.

I have heard that the basic thyroid studies don't always show a

thyroid problem - I wonder what does. I would really like to get to

the stage that Kenda is, feeling in better shape than ever, despite

my age. Though when changes are inevitable due to age, I would like

to have an acceptance of that too, and not try so hard to change

what I can't. I would like to feel better than ever BECAUSE of my

age - because I have learned how to take care of myself. Experience

that comes with age is a good thing. (the belly rolls aren't!).

Hi Kenda,

I really admire the way you've structured your life in order to

achieve good health. I know you've struggled with illness in the

past, and it just makes me more aware of the fact that many of us

can be well if we work at it. I've got to get myself on the right

track again as well - it's just so darn cold here in NJ right now,

and usually my routine involves walking. I also have to improve my

eating habits again - I don't eat junk, I don't eat sweets, but I

was eating alot of fruits and vegetables until a week or so ago and

I fell off the wagon. You seem very knowledgable in nutrition as

well, and it's very helpful to those of us who are trying to figure

it all out.
