Unfortunately, it seems in the nature of someone with BPD to somehow

dispose of the animals we love. I guess part of it is that they are

so needy for love, and they can't handle the fact that an animal is

getting the love they want. I just realized that my nada 'found

other homes' for 3 of my pets. In each instance, it was a done deal

before I learned about it.

Hi Joyce,

Wow! I had no idea this was a BPD trait. I thought it was just a bizarre

and annoying quirk of my Mother's.

How horrible and confusing for you. I understand this feeling of hating her

so much. That is how I woke up this morning. Consumed with hatred for my

Nada.

And, I absolutely can't stand feeling like this. I don't know how to make

it go away. I feel like it's killing me.

This whole thread about pets, helps me to see this behavior for what it is.

It's very abusive isn't it? I feel so badly for my childre, especially my

daughter, and that I haven't been able to do something different. My 12

year old is the dog lover. She wants to be a veterinarian.

But, I am also relieved, because it just makes me that much more committeed

to change what I can ASAP, for my children. If it wasn't for them, I don't

know if I could do it for just myself. I never could before when I was not

a mother.

I've struggled with this problem for many, many years (although I didn't

know what the problem was exactly), you know?

My parents hate animals. My mom is insulted when she

comes over and my cats leave the room. She expects

immediate attention. Cats don't work that way.

They got rid of every one of my dogs I had growing up.

They would always find some problem with them that

made them impossible to keep. I found out years later

that they took my very first dog and dumped him out in

the country. They let that slip one day.

I think my mom doesn't like them because she doesn't

like responsibility and is jealous if they like me.

My dad hates them because he hates anything that you

can't sell, and in his opinion, animals aren't worth a

cent. He thinks anyone that spends any money on an

animal is crazy.

God how awful! I feel so sorry for you. All I can say is that

having animals really saved my sanity when I was growing up. At

least my mother loved animals.

An animal is always its true self. I think this frightens people with

BPD.

A long time ago I worked for a while as a counselor in a program for

troubled kids. We had mules that the kids worked with. They were, by

far, the best therapists on the place.
