Guest guest
>>I wondered what your view was on Prednisolone? I took Cortef for about a week before switching to Prednisolone because it didn't seem to be controlling my night time hypoglycaemia<< Well I try to avoid it and recommending it. The reason for this is it is so much stronger than HC and MOST the time unless oyu have pituitary problems or 's, HC is enough. I htink you should have waited longer for the HC to level off in your system.I have found it takes a full 2 weeks on it to really feel the full benefits and maybe youshould have tried going to a higher dose of it before going straight to Pred. But now thta youare on it, just make sure you eat when you take it, and be aware of the symptoms of too much, such as puffy face or swelling in your legs and ankles. I think as long as you are cautious wiht the dosages it will work juat fine for you. -- Artistic Grooming- Hurricane WV My Ebay Jewelry Store http://stores.ebay.com/valeriescrystalcreations http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/

Guest guest
Taking 5mg in the morning (which I understand is the equivalent to 20mg of cortef) and 2.5mg at bedtime. I was taking 30mg of cortef - 15 in the am, 10 at lunch, and 5mg at bedtime. This didn't touch the nighttime hypoglycaemia, which was just horrendous - I got an average of 5 hours sleep a night for about 3 weeks, leaving me in the land of the living dead. The pred has evened this out, but I AM cagey about it. What do you think? Nicola -- In NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS , T wrote: > > >>I have only been taking it for 4 days. Guest guest
Have you been diagnosed with 's? I fear you are there or very close to it. If 30MG HC don't do it for relief, you were right to go to Pred, but Think it might have helped to hold the 30MG pred for a couple weeks. So it is kind of up to you, but you are now on a dose of Pred that is equal to 30-35MG HC. It is hard to understand the conversion of equivalence in HC to Pred as Pred stays in your system longer. -- Artistic Grooming- Hurricane WV My Ebay Jewelry Store http://stores.ebay.com/valeriescrystalcreations http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/
Guest guest
My cortisol tests were artificially high as I was already taking Isocort and other glandulars, and wouldn't have been able to stop without crashing totally. My endo examined me, saw me shaking like a leaf and concluded that HC might not be strong enough. Thinking about it, I think I will stay put on the pred for a bit, to stabilise the adrenals, build up the thyroid, and get the rest of my fillings out. Amalgam removal is very hard on my adrenals - after the last two I had a day of adrenal shaking, which shows they have been having a hard time, and are probably damaged. My adrenals need some stability now. I already feel calmer - less shaky, depressed, and sleeping better always helps. Also, knowing that I am on the top dose, and can't go any further without risking suppression, is kind of helpful. thanks for your help Val Nicola > > Have you been diagnosed with 's? Guest guest
Val - I am still pondering about switching back to HC. Can I do a straight over switch from one day to the next from 5mg of Pred to 25/30mg of HC, or does it need to be gradual? I didn't appreciate the need to try HC for 2 weeks to let the levels build up. I thought that because my nights are so horrendous (I have been awake from 2am this morning with hypoglycaemia, twitching adrenals and adrenaline surges) the HC wasn't strong enough (not in my system for long enough to get me through the night). I am absolutely exhausted and desperately need some sleep, but can't sleep for the hypoglycaemia and adrenal stuff. I also have a slight pain in my right flank, which doesn't encourage me greatly. I would prefer not to be on the pred as I understand it is very hard on the liver (which I don't need) but I think my adrenal situation is more serious than the liver. Is it possible to dose pred in smaller doses throughout the day to mimic the body's own cortisol cycle, and run less of a risk of suppression? thanks Nicola > > Have you been diagnosed with 's? Guest guest
The only way to lower risk of suppression with Pred is to lower the doses. I would try a switch back to the hc using 30MG as a starting point. You MAY have to go to 35MG but if you do it is still better than the pred oyu are on. If IO were you, I would take it 10MG 7am 10MG 11am, 10MG 3PM and 5MG bedtime. -- Artistic Grooming * Hurricane, WV My Ebay Jewelry Store http://stores.ebay.com/valeriescrystalcreations The BEST thyroid website! http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/
Guest guest
And can I do it from one day to the next? I am also taking Florinef - does this add to the overall cortisol replacement? This adrenal twitching really spooks me - like a muscle twitch in the adrenal area, and it happens when I'm out of cortisol, and a lot in the middle of the night. Do you know anything about this? Is it a sign the adrenals are damaged? Is there anything I can do about adrenaline surges in the night? When is this going to get better?! I am desperate. Guest guest
Glad to hear you're on the Florinef, I was wondering about that. How much are you taking? I also got the muscle twitches very badly that would keep me up all night. I'd get them all over my body to the point where I was wondering if I was having seizures. I started the HC and florinef at the same time and it helped, but I can't say which one did the trick. I had to work up to a full 0.1mg of the Florinef but once I was there for about two weeks I started to gradually feel better. I also found that getting out of bed and doing some yoga and stretching helped to calm the muscles a bit -- but not really enough to get me back to sleep. I spent a lot of late nights on the main NTH board during that time (thanks everyone, btw). Drinking salt water also helped tremendously and eating salty foods during the day. I think it was the racing mind that was the worst though, lying awake wondering WTF was going wrong with me. I feel ya. Hang in there, I almost literally came back from the dead, so I'm sure you can get there too. Jen PS. I'm not sure about you, but there were also some pretty crazy suicidal thoughts running through my head during that time. I KNEW it wasn't me or the " real me " thinking that, but they just wouldn't go away. I don't know what it is about the low adrenals, but it can do some f***ed up things to your head. If you're experiencing anything like that, please, please don't hesitate to reach out. We're here for ya. And it will go away. promise > > And can I do it from one day to the next?
