Guest guest
Sounds like a good plan! Even if a women in our region chooses to go further afield for explanting, it might be a comfort to have a "sister" in the area to offer support on the phone or in person. I would be willing to help--I know how much it means to have the support. Melinda Let's start a Big Sister Network WE have women from all over the country who have been through the process of explant. Some may be in the same town as a woman going through the process of looking for doctors; some may be in the town the woman wants to travel to to meet with the doctor. When I went to Atlanta the first time, I went by myself and felt very lost.I so desperately wished I had someone to talk to, or go with me to the doctor and help advocate for me, or someone with whom I could stay during my explant. As it turned out, I did not have surgery that trip and when I went back my husband went with me. Even so, it would have been helpful to have a contact, a big sister, to bounce things off of, encourage me etc.I would love to establish a database of women who would volunteer their time and, in some cases, their home for women seeing doctors in their area. With such a database, we could 'match up' women. I would volunteer to start such a database. I would volunteer to be a 'big sister' contact in South Florida, for example. I would offer my home for someone to stay if they were seeing Dr. Vinas, for example, or a doctor in Miami or Palm Beach. I would go with the woman to the doctor as support and to help advocate for her. We could have a check list, where women could check off what they would be willing to do: telephone calls, take a woman to the doctor and help advocate, open her home to a woman during her stay...etc. SOme women may want to do one but not another. This database could be a joint effort between forums - Saline Support, Explantation.com, and Implant Info Net, in particular. I would be willing to design and maintain such a database. We need to unify our efforts - there is strength in cooperation between groups. When a woman is going to, say, Denver, she can look at the Database to see if a "Big Sister" is listed in the Denver area. We have women from all over the country, and this would be a stellar way of networking and offering our help to women who are nervous, anxious, sometimes a little too sick or nervous to ask the right questions, etc. THe Big Sister can help with that, offer her experience, and support. This is a small price to pay for the help we have been given from those before us. Would you be interested in such a Network?I sure would!! Please give me your feedback on this idea...

Guest guest
Good point, Melinda! I will get started on a database. I suspect this could be a big help to many. My only concern is in protecting privacy, and I think we can figure something out about that... maybe just start with emails. I'll give it some thought. But I do think such a database could be a super way of getting to know other women, and a useful support. > > Sounds like a good plan! Guest guest
I live about an hour and 45 minutes from Dr Kolb in Atlanta. My house is very small so I don't know if I could host a woman but I could certainly go with her to appointments and help her around Atlanta. I am planning on explant soon as well and I really think this is a excellent idea, because all I have is my husband and he just doesn't understand and is often cold about this. --- In , " Molly Bloom " <mollyb54@b...> wrote: > > WE have women from all over the country who have been through the process of explant. > Some may be in the same town as a woman going through the process of looking for > doctors; some may be in the town the woman wants to travel to to meet with the doctor. > > When I went to Atlanta the first time, I went by myself and felt very lost. > I so desperately wished I had someone to talk to, or go with me to the doctor and help > advocate for me, or someone with whom I could stay during my explant. Guest guest
I have you. Right now, I am putting together an Excel spreadsheet. I have name, email, phone, Willing to take emails, phone, other. I am now 'on the list', and I have you , and your email (I assume that is kitko@...?) . I'm not sure yet how to deal with phone numbers and maintain privacy. Suggestions? > > Include me! Guest guest
Great, . I will add your name to my list. I have myself, and you. I have others to add at ImplantInfoNet & E.com. It will take some time, but I t hink I can get a list together. I think I will leave off phone numbers on this - someone can always email first, and make contact. That will help maintain some privacy. I will have a phone column, but it can be blank for now. I am so glad that you agree ...I have thought about this for a long time, but haven't done anything about it. So now I am. Having someone to make contact with could make such a difference. Or to go with a woman to a doctor! I am sure willing to do this. I can understand why women may not want to open up their homes. Under certain conditions I might, but I would not want to offer it on an open list. I will offer my online name and email. Then I can give phone number etc after someone contacts me by email. If anyone has other suggestions, please let me know. > > > > WE have women from all over the country who have been through the > process of explant. > > Some may be in the same town as a woman going through the process > of looking for > > doctors; some may be in the town the woman wants to travel to to > meet with the doctor. > > > > When I went to Atlanta the first time, I went by myself and felt > very lost. > > I so desperately wished I had someone to talk to, or go with me to > the doctor and help > > advocate for me, or someone with whom I could stay during my > explant. Guest guest
Yes, with just the e-mail address listed, and of course the fact that I'm in New Jersey. Then if someone contacts me we can establish the rest of the information. Guest guest
Thank you Patty. I have decided not to include an option for offering a room ....that would be too open to abuse. That can be decided on an individual basis.. I am asking for first name, location, explanting surgeon, email & phone number May I add you to the list? I am heartened by the response. I think this could be a powerful tool to help women. Guest guest
YES! Guest guest
Patty, you live in Vegas?? My husbands entire family lives in . We come out there about 6-10 times a year to visit, it is our second home (love to gamble to...which is a problem! We actually got married a couple months ago in the outside garden in Caesars Palace. I love it there! His family is trying to get us to move out there as well. I would love to get out of this snow so we are considering it but it is still up in the air. We are looking into AZ and FL as well. We are both in the real estate market and know that they are all great places for that! Anyhow, I was just curious where in Vegas you live..and were you born and raised there? We are coming out for Christmas as well for a week. I can't wait! Guest guest
Actually, I do live in ! I live in the Anthem subdivision, off Eastern and Anthem Parkway. We've got several members on here from Vegas--Daryl, Anita, GT (which we haven't heard from in awhile?) and probably others who are long gone from the group. Anita and Daryl rarely post, but we've been planning on getting together for awhile. We are so busy, so we don't see each other often enough. Maybe we should plan something when you are here! My husband and I moved to Vegas in 1998 to start a business, which has now become 3 businesses and hopefully will include a 4th one next year. The real estate market in this town has been out of sight! We've been the fasting growing city in the nation for several years running now. Can't for the life of me figure out why in this ugly desert?????? Arizona and Florida are also fantastic real estate markets. I am sure you will do well where ever you go. No doubt we will all be busy with family during the holidays, but if you have a chance, why don't you look me up? Maybe Anita and Daryl will be free too, and we can meet at The Cheesecake Factory or someplace close? Guest guest
lol Patty, My husband is a real estate lawyer in Florida. We now have 20 women on the Big Sister's List! I am so heartened by the response, and we've just started. We don't want to post this online, because of possible crank phone calls. I'd like to see the varoius forums post the availability after we figure out how best to verify the woman is who she says she is...then we will make the list available. I welcome suggestions. > > > > > > YES! > > > > > > You can list me for Las Vegas, NV, (Explanting surgeon was Dr. > > Karl > > > Hiatt in Mesa, AZ) and my email is of course, shown on all my > > > posts. > > > Thanks, Molly! > > > Patty > > >
Guest guest
Molly, Have you looked at our database Contact list? It is a shell of info right now, nothing that has gotten any real use, but perhaps you could utilize it somehow? Take a look.....just click on Database on the left side of the screen on the homepage, and go to the contact list. We can always add more boxes to our database listing and go from there, if you think that would be of any help.
