Thank you all so much for the wonderful insight! I love how you captured it with the phrase "intrusive thoughts" I had always explained it as "seeing things" and fear and anxiety and the insuing insomnia but now I have a much clearer picture of what is going on and that always leads to different things to try!

Tami, I read your response to to my dd and she was beaming when I told her other people have the same thing, feeling less alone. I read over the steps you outlined, she really felt understood and so she was able to open up to me, we talked a lot about her thoughts on God, wonderful!. She asked for a stuffed St. that she could hold close to her, thinking that would help her, so I promised I would make her one. ( We have been devoted to St. since she was quite little always teaching her to seek his protection with all her years of fear. She just asked for our St holy water holder by the front door be moved to her bedside last night) She was comforted by the fact that your son too has an affinity for St. .

I would like to assure you your statue and even paintings or prints of Saints are not silly at all. The Saints and angels are real and asking them to intercede for us has great power. Having these things around us reminds us to go to them. Reading the stories of the saints really restores Celia and i believe, gives her strength for what she has to endure.

Very interested in the Theta Wave disruption theory, please share more as you get this. With this new insight Celia is saying the ry (very repedative) with Dad tonight and also thinking of breaking out our "Chant" CD ( Benedictine Monks). We have used this for years with good results for sensory regulation ( I believe there is research on its efficacy in this area). I thought of it for this troublesome time between wake and sleep after reading your post. I believe there is research on the Benedictine Monks chanting for 6-8 hours a day, they stopped and became very fatigued, ill, upon resuming chanting health returned. I think it was putting them in that Theta state.

I want to fully recognize the power of these spiritual interventions but I also can't help but notice that repetition is a common link...could this be the reason for some of our childrens repedative behavior, trying to get themselves in a theta state?? Celia is not repedative physically anymore so maybe her recurring thoughts are her "repedative behavior" Just thinking out loud.

The info on Thuja was dead on for my little one, so thanks to who posted that!

Thanks for all the wisdom!

Have you tried homeopathy?

(Mindlinx, three different brands of Inositol, several different forms of Omega 3) What we are labeling OCD is her intrusive thoughts. These usually hit her late at night when she is trying to fall asleep, and they just come out of nowhere, usually they are thoughts of death. Th ey scare the living crap out of her. For the first time, she shared with me that they cause her to bang her head against the wall or her head board.
