Guest guest
Sally, I was on 30MG Hydrocortisone for about 4 months and I am successfully weaned sown to 20MG now! Sometimes it is necessary to take higher amounts of HC to allow your body to accept enough thyroid for it to work properly, The MAIN thing I have learned about getting off steroids is timing. You must have your thyroid high enough to sustain proper metabolism before you try to cut the HC back. Then it will be alot smoother. -- Artistic Grooming * Hurricane, WV My Ebay Jewelry Store http://stores.ebay.com/valeriescrystalcreations The BEST thyroid website! http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/
Guest guest
You and I are dealing with similar issues at the moment. I am on Isocort and can't cope with a thyroid dose increase, so am pretty much just sitting here too! No doubt Val will put you right on this, but I believe Isocort is much weaker than Cortef, and if you can't increase your dose on Cortef, you are unlikely to be able to do it on Isocort. I am also sleeping badly, have hypoglycaemia, very weak and shakey - I find myself crawling up the stairs on all fours. I am anxiously awaiting my Cortef (also self-medicating - hope it will arrive tomorrow) so I can get started on this and increase my Thyroid S to 2 grains. Val - what is the answer here? How does one deal with a situation where you are taking as much adrenal support as you are supposed to, and it's still not enough! Guest guest
Hi Val Thanks for the reassuring response - very quick too! I will try increasing to 30mg for a while until my body gets used to the increase in thyroid meds. Do you know if people who are very overweight need more h/c? If so, would this still be considered a physiological dose? Thanks Sally > > Sally, I was on 30MG Hydrocortisone for about 4 months and I am > successfully weaned sown to 20MG now! Guest guest
Hi Nicola Perhaps we can sit here together?! LOL! You sound a lot worse than me - I haven't yet been reduced to crawling up the stairs, thank goodness. I hope your Cortef arrives tomorrow and you feel better very soon Sally > > You and I are dealing with similar issues at the moment. Guest guest
Sally Thank you. It's a bad day today - I feel very shakey, despite having taken 11 Isocort already. I am going to drop my thyroid dose by 1/4 grain, and ride out the hypoT symptoms. Fingers crossed for tomorrow. Then I need to think about how I make the transition. Just sitting here, not doing much ...!!! Nicola -- In NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS , " Sally Lazarus " wrote: > > Hi Nicola > > Perhaps we can sit here together?! Guest guest
Hi Nicola Dropping the Armour sounds like a good idea. IMO HypoT symptoms are much easier to handle than adrenal ones. You will probably have to be careful when you make the switch to Cortef as increased adrenal support can result in an increase in the availability of thyroid hormone in the body and cause hyper-type symptoms (but you probably knew that anyway )) Take care Sally > > Sally > > Thank you. Guest guest
Hi Sally I DID know that, and I'm just pondering my game plan. Do you know whether it is definite that I will get hyper symptoms, and how long they will last before things even out? I have to plan the rest of my week.... Guest guest
Hi Nicola I don't think it is definite - other people may know more than me though. If you did get hyper symptoms I don't know how long they would last - you would probably have to cut back on your thyroid until it settled down. Dr Peatfield advises to stop all thyroid meds for a day or two before starting adrenal support, then increase slowly back to the level you were on before, to reduce the possibility of hyper symptoms. Guest guest
Sally - I just got an appointment with Thierry Hertoghe in Brussels on Wednesday, so I will hold off the Cortef and just limp on with the Isocort until then. I shall ask him if I need to stop my thyroid meds while the Cortef takes effect. I was interested to see you write that you feel like you have a fluey virus. I have had this feeling for 18 months now, and was told it was due to low cortisol and low thyroid. take care, Nicola > > Hi Nicola > > I don't think it is definite - other people may know more than me > though. Guest guest
Hi Nicola Wow! That's great news! He's really supposed to know his stuff! I'm sure he will be able to sort you out. So, do you live in Belgium then? What you said about the feeling of having a fluey virus is very interesting and makes a lot of sense. For years I frequently felt as though I had a virus, never realising the real reason until I started doing some research 4 years ago and realised I was hypothyroid. I am so angry with the medical profession for ignoring me for so long! If I had been properly diagnosed when I first exhibited symptoms I would probably be well by now! Good luck on Wednesday!
