Guest guest
I need someone’s help desperately. I’m on a very short time line to figure out what I need to do. 10 years ago we provided a Medicare covered autologous BMT to this patient. He is now in need of a second autologous BMT. We still have his cells in storage so harvesting is not an issue. My understanding is that Medicare will not cover a second transplant. Patient has BCBSFEP secondary, which I believe will cover the transplant. Will I need an ABN so Medicare will not deny as a contractual write-off and we can bill to BCBSFEP? If so, my understanding is the ABN will need to be code specific, is that correct? Will I need an ABN for the transplant code only, or will it be needed for all the related services too? How does someone anticipate all the codes related to the transplant that could be needed? Is there anyone out there that has encountered this before that can contact me directly?
