Guest guest
Hi Mike and I have P in my ears as well. Finally got to a Dermatologist for the Psoriasis earlier this week. He put me on several things because I have inverse Psoriasis and some of it is infected with yeast but the neatest thing is something called Derma-Smoothe scalp oil. I use it on all the bad patches of Psoriasis and many of the places are improving drastically. Not the ears so much yet but it has only been two days. Guest guest
Lorna - Can you get derma smooth over the counter? Guest guest
Hi Mike. I've got psoriasis in and around both ears. It gets pretty bad and over the years I've used several different creams and ointments but right now I'm using something that's working quite well. I don't have it with me but I'm pretty sure it's called Diprosone Betamethasone. It's an ointment that comes in a tube and it's available with a prescription. (My dermatologist prescribed it.) It's quite strong so I was warned not to use it anywhere like on my face but it works really well. I noticed an improvement after the first application. It's clear and feels a bit greasy but it doesn't burn at all (like some cortisone creams do), even when applied to cracked, open areas. I was told to use it something like twice a day or as needed... I don't use it that often but I don't feel I need to. I keep the tube next to my bed and apply it before I go to sleep when my ears start getting itchy and flaky. By morning the flaky skin's all soft and easily removable (with a Q-tip or a finger nail) and my ears feel great. I can sometimes go a week or two before they start to get flaky again. (That's an incredible improvement.) Gayle PS. I've been told by doctors (as I'm sure many others have) that I should never put anything in my ear that's smaller than my elbow. After receiving one of those lectures from a doctor, I once decided to stop picking at the flaked skin in my ears. Unfortunately, within a week I'd lost most of the hearing in both my ears. I went to a clinic and had my ears flushed and the nurse was amazed. Despite what I told her she was expecting to find wax blockage. What she found was no wax at all but a whole lot of skin flakes. I still listen to my doctors' advice but I don't always do what they say anymore. Sometimes the doctor doesn't know best. ;-) > Hi, > > Does anyone have problems with Psoriasis in and around the ears? > and if so, how do you deal with it? > > Mike
Guest guest
Mike, It is prescription only here in the US not sure about elsewhere. The manufacturer has a web site at www.pmaark.com/hill . The insert says that the prescription ingredients in it a re fairly mild with the vehicle doing most of the work. The base is peanut oil so if you cannot get this maybe just putting peanut oil will help. Not sure if other oils would work but you never know until you try and I guess if you can eat it it won't hurt putting it on your body. Guest guest
I use Derma Smoothe also, and have had great luck with it. Both my scalp and ears are much better. It is a prescription medication. I also get it right behind the ear. - sometimes even sore enough to bleed there. Again, oil rather than lotion seems to be best for me. Guest guest
I have a bad time with the inside of my ears. I dig at them when I'm asleep and they get infected. Years ago one of my doctors prescribed an antibiotic ear drop. I don't use it very often but when things start to get itchy a few drops really make a difference. My current bottle says, Neomycin and Polymyxin B Sulfates and Hydrocortisone Otic Suspension USP, Sterile Ear Suspension, 10ml. I've never been able to get them to prescribe a Psoriasis med. to put in my ears, because the skin is so thin inside the ear that steroids will cause problems. One did suggest an over the counter product called Domeboro Powder. I haven't used it but have seen it in the stores. It's a powder that you mix with water and then flush your ears with it. She said it would help with the itching. I feel for anyone that has problems with the inside of their ears, because I know how unrelentless it can be. Happy Easter to all. Yes oil-based seems to be the answer, (I think!). I find the constant itching a real problem, especially inside the ear, and especially when, as someone said, a Doctor, I think! don't put anything bigger than your elbow in your ear !!! :-) I find it is nice and easy to make that statement, but when you have the problem of itching, you have to do something! Becky, Thanks for the info - as soon as Easter has ended, I will be off to the Chemist (pharmacy) and try this. You are 'dead' right about it being 'unrelentless!!!' I have the same problem in my sleep as well !! It is really annoying, that during the day, the ears are bunged up, and you have to keep saying to people 'pardon?! or words to that effect!! :-) - but then at night time, whilst asleep, they unblock, and then the itching starts, you, unwittingly, put your finger in there for a 'good' scratch, and hey presto! you have an infected ear!! sheeeesh !! Never mind, as Shakespeare said, "lend me your ears"........<g> Mike (from the UK)

Guest guest
I have horrible awful P scales in and around my ears. I use Elocom (prescription). I put it on the outside of my ears by hand, and I use a Q-tip for the inside... a word of caution though, do not put it in the canal. If the P goes that deep inside your ear you need to see an otolaryngologist who specialises in treating problems deep within the ear. So just put a bit of the cream on the Q-tip and put it everywhere there are scales up until you would actually have to go inside. Hope this helps. But the problem is, Domeboro dries up everything in the ear. It's an astringent. Basically, it's just a powder form of white vinegar without the smell. I don't know what doc. recommended it, and I'm certainly not an M.D., but I'd think twice about that one. In my opinion, an astringent isn't what we need in our ears. Vinegar is drying but also very antiseptic, maybe that's why it was recommended for your condition. At any rate, I'd check with your doc. before using Domeboro for P.
