Guest guest
Oh Lizzy, honey...I'm so sorry for you. What a tool they are eh?...just yet another verification of their madness...putting their own selfish needs before those that they SHOULD love. Tomorrow, get ahold of your telephone company to see what they can do....now please, PLEASE take the rest of this with a grain of salt...this is what I would do...you do what you feel comfortable with...I would then get in touch with your state's attorney. She CAN be charged with telephone misuse and harassment. These are misdemeanors and are...99% of the time not followed through with....they are usually either completely dropped...or they end up getting PBJ and maybe some community service....once the phone company traces everything (and they have to...it is mandated by the FCC) and sends you the proof you need for the states attorney, I would type up something that looks official ...and send it to HER...and send it to the States Attorney. I would start it Dear (states attorneys name)...here is the information requested per our conversation. I would like to discuss the options I now have in regards to prosecution of this case. I WOULD send it to the State's Attorney and send it to her as a " carbon copy " . If she isn't bright enough to read between the lines, I would include a handwritten note... " I'm including a copy to you as a courtesy. This is the last " courtesy " that will be given to you by me. I'm leaving the rest to the court. See you there. " ...make sure you send it certified, because that will really scare the stuff out of her. Personally. ..i WOULD go through with it....that is just how i am...I'm not a " bluffer " . I don't make threats...EVER...and if I start something, i ALWAYS try to make sure I finish it. If you aren't comfortable with that, then I would tell the State's Attorney that you are sending it to him, but aren't interested in prosecution. Most State's Attorney's will be happy to either send a sheriff to the house, or send an official letter. You best bet would be if you could just contact the State's Attorney's office and let them handle the whole thing...that way THEY are pursuing it...you aren't. Like I said...please, PLEASE only pursue what you are comfortable with. I would definitely tell the phone company that she is trying to get around them...because they CAN trace all calls if they know that they are doing it in pursuant of possible criminal activity. Give them a call and see what they can do....but you are going to have to be persistent...if it sounds like work, they will try to get around it....i would make sure you tell them that you are going to be reporting everything to the state's attorney.... including their reluctance to help you if that is the case. Good luck!! Keep us posted!! Kisses and Nibbles, Bunny -- Prank calls From Nada So the last 2 nights in the middle of the night I have been getting these stupid prank calls. I am so sick of it. I am sure they are from her because they are in her pattern type. wait 10 min call wait 10 min call. GRRR I have a family I have kids we all need to sleep. We have caller ID but some how the name was blocked. We are also able to log all of our calls online but that was some how unable to be tracked as well. I am so anoyed. The calls have been coming in between 4-6 am. Talk about crap. Tonight my husband will have the phone next to him and he will answer. Last night I did but she just did the silent thing. So this night we plan to say " blank we know its you. Leave us alone we are trying to sleep. " My guess is she wont call tonight because she was just trying to call and show me how upset she was on behalf of my dad for fathers day. Or if she does call tonight will be the last night. Also I think this may have been the weekend my scanky cousin got married and the fact that I showed no intrest probly urked them. OOPS. But really its annoying my mom is so good at that " Lizzy your dad is so hurt, he feels like this... " Lizzy you should really call your dad because he is upset " when really she the only one upset or hurt. I could just barf. She pretends to care but it is for her benifet only. It makes me want to scream.
Guest guest
" blank we know its you. Leave us alone we are trying to sleep. " ____________- Lizzy, doing that might let her know she is getting to you. If she thinks that you wont know what has hit you. I would just put the phone down on the bedside table and let her do her thing. You cant stop her.
Guest guest
Thanks Beachbunny, You know I spent 3 of the last 4 years in court with her so I'm not too eager to get back there with her. However if the calls continue I will be there in a flash! I have already had an order of protection against her once (which she violated) so I am sure it shouldn't be hard to get a second time if I need it. Part of the reason I had it was because she was calling non-stop among many other reasons. So I am framiler with the whole contacting the police the phone company and what a pain in the neck it can be. The good news is now I live in a town of around 1,000 VRs. 50 or 60,000 so I think the police and phone comp. will be much more eager to help. I have already met one of the officers who drives by my house every day and she stops to give the kids stickers and we talk. I will talk to the officer about it the next time I see her. Maybe she can have a few tips. I think if I did go I wouldn't even give her a copy just becuse of my past with her. she would use it against me somehow. I just can't stand the thought of being in court over phone calls again. The last time it took over a year and a half. Her lawyer called and harrassed me for 18 months to the point where I had to get my own lawyer. I got more calls from her lawyer than I did from the state. I had 2 lawyers working against her one with the state and another lawyer I paid for. We sent her lawyer letters stating if he continued to call me we would sue him. It was so bad the police got involved contacting both my mom and her lawyer because they wouldn't leave me alone it was awful. Her lawyer would call me all the time and ask for my mom saying that was the number she left saying that she said she lived with me at that apt I have some of the calls recorded. I don't know if she was confussed, on to many drugs, or if she wanted to rub it in and harrass me more or it could have been the lawyer he was a slimy man. but I was distrat and ended up on anti deppressents. I just don't want to go down that road again. So if I can avoid it I will. Contact with her? Id rather be dead. And I dont mean that light heartedly. She is a pain to say the least. Sorry if I babble. But thanks for the tips and for caring and Thanks for listening. we will see where this goes I just may end up back in court but id rather move! Guest guest
> > When you answer the phone and blow that loudly in their ear it will make them think twice next time. <g> Well, I can't recommend it. I got so fed up with " private caller " showing on the caller id, that one time when it showed up about five times in a row--each the same, the caller would let the phone ring, hang up on the machine, then wait about five minutes and call back. Well finally I was good and mad, so the phone rang again and it said " private caller. " So I picked up the phone and shouted " What do you want? Why can't you just leave a message like a normal person! " Well, it was my mother in law. Her husband had just, for some unknown reason, blocked their number. She said she had not been calling--that was the first time she'd called. My husband was so mad at me! Neva
Guest guest
OMG...LIZZY!! I had no idea...wow..yeah,you make a very good point...and that may just give her MORE excuses to be involved with you...because even when they get a restraining order they now view that as yet another type of relationship " with you. Sick, sick, sick. Now my mother would handle that differently...getting a letter like that, or having a police officer confront her would scare the stuffing out of her. She would stop calling, but then have OTHER people call me...my aunts, cousins...that type of thing. Probably, on some sick level of theirs they had you in court at one time... so anything less, they feel like they failed. Court...they now have a new level to shoot for...or in our case....sink to. I'm glad you are familiar with a few of the police officers where you live.. but I'm sad that you have had to go through all these things. It's sad that the courts won't recognize a stalker or a harasser when they see one. I mean, if it were a stranger that were doing these things they would not extend them one single courtesy. Guest guest
LOL - that actually is a bit of a trigger for me, because my nada used to blow a whistle into the phone whenever she suspected a prank caller. The prank callers used to get a kick out of it, actually. They'd call more often. As for nadas calling - I realize we're talking about nadas here but it still strikes me as such deviant behavior, calling in the middle of the night, calling and hanging up, calling from different and/or blocked numbers, calling us at work, etc. Do you know who else does that sort of thing? Stalkers. It's just ridiculous, when you think about it. The only relief I ever found was to just ignore her calls. For a while I even turned the ringer off and the answering machine volume way low, so that I could choose when to check those messages. My nada eventually got bored and stopped harrassing me via the phone (although she still tries every once in a while). > So the last 2 nights in the middle of the night I have been getting > these stupid prank calls. Guest guest
Wouldn't it be great if you could use one of those air horns that is used at sporting events? I had the bright idea of doing that to a prank caller one time...turns out my kids were sleeping through the ringing phone...but the air horn ended up scaring the gravy out of them(what can I say? I'm a blonde)...lol...even the neighbors heard it...the man next door said that he heard our " house alarm " at 3am...lmao....we didn't get anymore calls though. ...so it did work. Living across the street kind of helps in situations like this....when my mom decides to play these games, I can open my curtains slightly and peek out. There she is standing...with the lights on and the curtains open with the phone up to her ear....on one occasion she was standing in our front yard, with the phone up to her ear...in her robe getting soaked by our sprinklers. For a millisecond I felt bad for her....but just like that...i got over it. Guest guest
STALKERS. That is TOTALLY what I have been calling Nada lately. My STALKER. I suppose it is the same sort of dementia, absorbing yourself in someone else like that. I often just screen my calls, but nada catches on and begins to leave messages like " I am not sure you got my message ....is everyone ok? is something wrong? i am really worried cause I have left several...blah blah... " . She tries every angle. BUtifulGrace sherby2k wrote: LOL - that actually is a bit of a trigger for me, because my nada used to blow a whistle into the phone whenever she suspected a prank caller. Guest guest
That's absolutely the mildest thing I'd do if I found my nada on my front lawn in the middle of the night! I'm thinking more along the lines of calling the cops and reporting the crazy old lady trespassing on my property. And THEN I'd turn on the sprinklers... That's enough to give me nightmares, just thinking about it. *shiver* > > > > > > When you answer the phone and blow that loudly in their ear it > will > > make them think twice next time. <g> > > > > > > Well, I can't recommend it. Guest guest
I've been really busy and haven't had time to post, but wanted to offer a suggestion for all of you with prank calling nadas. My brother has a service, can't remember what they call it, where no one can call with their number blocked. I have to unblock my number every time I call him or I get a message that " this number does not accept calls from unidentified numbers " . It might be worth it to call the phone company and get it, as at least it would eliminate the midnight calls. That is unless nada is driving somewhere else to call. I got 8-12 hangups a day in the weeks before I went NC. It was like she knew it was coming. Guest guest
If you are in a Verizon service area the " call block service " is $10.00 per month. I had a huge issue with hang ups on my business line (ten to twenty a day and was pretty sure it was my nada-enabled brother.) Since I had the call block installed on my line I don't get any more calls. (Guess he's too much of a coward to let my caller id show his number.) It's been well worth the cost. I got 8-12 hangups a day in the weeks before I went NC. It was like she knew it was coming. Guest guest
Isn't it interesting that our nada's, the master deceptors, try to convince us that something is real. Guest guest
I hate the way they can get to us with phones. To this day I still get a nasty feeling in my stomach whenever it's quiet in the house and the phone rings. It reminds me of so many angry phone calls. I wish I could just be happy to hear the phone ring and look forward to answering it, like other people probably do. > > So the last 2 nights in the middle of the night I have been getting > these stupid prank calls. Guest guest
It's so ironic you say that...just last night my husband pointed out that the ringing phone has a " pavlov's dogs " type of response to me. (For those of you who aren't familiar--Dr. Pavlov had a group of dogs he used to train. He would ring a bell, then give the dogs yummy food like steak, or delicious food. After a period of time, he found that all he would have to do was ring the bell, and the dogs would begin salivating, and indicate they were ready for food.)....For most people, the phone rings, and naturally, you get up and begin walking to the phone to answer it....not me...without fail, no matter where we are....the phone rings and instantly i say " oh crap .. Guest guest
Just an update I did end up contacting the police and kind of pre warning them that it may end up becoming a bigger problem if it doesn't stop. I did after a daytime hang up. they were understanding and told me do the *57 thing. I told them I know that already and I tried but it gave me a busy sign every time. So they are looking into it for me. But the good news was he took down my name and number and address and knows my mom is nuts. So I hope if any think happens we will be ready. And thanks for all the support durring this to everybody who replied! A big hug Lizzy -- In WTOAdultChildren1 , " valuklon " wrote: > > I hate the way they can get to us with phones.
