Guest guest
Dear , Gosh that sounds really scary, I hope everything's ok with your mum. I have had my heart tested numerous times, 24hr trace, and one that lasted a week, that was sometime ago so I have made an appointment to see my Dr next THursday but its anyone's guess how long it will take to see a cardiologist again, things are never fast on the N.H.S. Nice to see you back with the group and thanks for your reply Love Sue
Guest guest
Hi Sue. It isn't Rogene just me. , but I wanted to tell you my opinion about your heart beating episodes. I would get it checked out to be safe. It could be an attack of arythmia, or it could be what my mom had which is called atrial fibrilation. They don't always know what it is caused by, and it usually takes an echocardiogram to be sure, but when it is the heart it really is not something to play around with. IT happened to my mom, she is older but in really great health, the first time she was 74 and now she is 75. not to scare you or freak you out but, her attacks got worse and then they discovered she had mitral valve regurgitation. Eventually my mom made the choice to have her mitral valve replaced. Though they are two different things, the regurge was getting worse and the little valve was not closing right which eventually can lead to the heart working too hard to pump blood and of course that can weaken and enlarge the heart (the heart muscle gets enlarged just like a muscle in your arm can, from working tooo hard, but you don't want your heart to get enlarged.) So she had major surgery to replace the valve. Rather than a mechanical one she chose a biological valve, from a pig. Sounds weird right, but she is doing great now. While they had her heart opened up they did another small procedure which hopefully has stopped her attacks of atrial fibrilation (rapid heart beat) and now she feels great. Not that you would need all this, but it is not somehting you want to mess around with. The good news is there is medication for atrial fibrilation if that is what you have. If not then you will lose nothing but time getting tested. The test they usually do to detect heart problems is an echocardiogram and it is a pretty simple test. Non invasive. It is basically an ultrasound of the heart and shows them how everything is working in there. If you have had one attack I might not bother but, with you having more than one, I really would check it out. Hey Sue it might be nothing, but be safe ok! love In , gibbense@a... wrote: > > Dear rogene, > > Do you remember a while ago I wrote and told you I was woken from a deep > sleep with my heart banging out of my chest, well it happened again last night. > It almost feels as though my heart will explode, I woke my husband and when he > felt it he was shocked, I came downstairs and waited for it to stop which it > did.
