Guest guest
Kathie, I'm glad we got your access fixed! . . . Here's the surgeon that Patty used: DR. KARL HIATT, plastic surgeon, 500 W. l0th Place, suite 124, Mesa, AZ 1-602-644-8043 http://www.drhiatt.com/breast_en.html Has done more explantations than any other doctor in the state of Arizona. However, he does not use drains, but will do a total capsulectomy. He will also not admit that breast implants cause disease. Some women have reported negative experiences with his office. Edna: the support group leader in AZ: ETRAWICK@... Patty explanted by him: fdp3@... Still, you need to get a committment from him about the way he will remove your implants in writing . . . Just say we are skeptical of plastic surgeons! If you'll go to the group and go over the past months messages, you will see that women are getting explanted and doing really well. Quite a few women who were explanted some time ago are dropping by to tell us how wonderful they feel since getting their implants out. Who is your provider? . . . Don't take " No " for an answer. some of the ladies here can help you with tactics. Keep in mind that the insurance company will save money by having your implants removed! . . . That's one of your biggest bargaining chips! . . . Regardless, getting your implants removed is essential when you're symptomatic. The manufacturer's want women to think they must have implants after cancer to keep their self-esteem. What they don't tell breast cancer women is that they are at the greatest risk for complications. Their immune systems are already whacked by cancer, chemo, surgery, radiation, etc. . . IMHO, it's criminal! . . . But what's happened has happened. What's important is where you go from here. The bad news is that it takes time, determination and committment. . . At a time when you feel so bad, it may feel overwhelming. But the reward is that you can get your life back! Take it one step at a time and you'll get there! We have a lot of information posted in the archives under " Files " and " Links " that should get you up to speed quickly. Arm yourself with that information when you approach your insurance company again. As unbelievable as it seems, they know that implants are dangerous! . . . Yet they are being held silent by the powers that be. Hopefully this will change soon! We have some very caring and well informed women here who want to see women avoid some of the pitfalls we've experienced! . . . If you have any questions, let us know. Hugs and prayers, Rogene
Guest guest
If I were in Mesa, AZ, I would go to Dr. Gilbert Lee of San Diego or Dr. Huang of Denver, as we know both will do en bloc removal and are tremendously experienced. Not everyone is happy with Dr. Hiatt. Lynda At 11:56 AM 10/25/2005, you wrote: >Kathie, > >I'm glad we got your access fixed! . . . > >Here's the surgeon that Patty used: > >DR. Guest guest
Oh my . . . Wait until Patty sees this! . . . I wonder what's going on with this doctor? I'm copying this to Marti s. . She's in sdale and may know of a good plastic surgeon in the area. Something the plastic surgeons and manufacturer's don't want women to think about is what happens if they get sick and can't afford to remove their implants. I don't know that anyone has the answer to that! . . . Beg, borrow, steal is all I can think of. One woman I met bred toy poodles to get the money. It took her over a year to get the money, but she did it! I'd keep working on the insurance company though! . . .. The one thing that has proven impassable (as was my case) was that my insurance was through a company that was self-insured . . . That placed them beyond the reach of insurance governance boards. They didn't not cover any complications related to plastic surgery. No if, ands, or buts! They spend a fortune on me while I was sick though! . . . My medical bills dropped to almost nothing once my implants were out! It looks like a good investment to me! Komen gets a lot of money from the manufacturer's . . .. They are by no means neutral! Guest guest
Kathie, I was living in Arizona at the time of my implant and explant, and I found that there was not a single good doctor in Tucson that could help, but Phoenix had a couple to choose from. I was explanted by Dr. Karl Hiatt in Mesa, AZ. He admitted to me that " if you were my wife, Iwould want those things out of you " in response to my illness. So, I trusted him, he was a Christian man and had good morals, got my insurance to cover it, and he did a proper " en bloc " explant for me. That was in 1998, and since then I have heard that other women haven't had experiences like mine, but at least for you, this is a place to start looking. If you call him, please let me know what kind of response you get. His nurse was very nice and knew that women were getting sick from silicone implants, which made me feel so much better. I am so sorry you have gone through so much suffering and pain. I hope you find this helpful in your effort to start getting your life back. Guest guest
Kathie, It makes me so shocked to hear that Dr. Hiatt's office could be so rude after the way I was treated, but I believe you. It just is so sad. There was another Phoenix area doctor that I was going to consider...here are the others on our list: DR. WILLIAM LEIGHTON, 10210 N. 92nd St., Suite 200, sdale, AZ. 1-480-314-2008 New to our list; be certain to get in writing from him he will remove your implants " en bloc " and do a total capsulectomy, if at all possible. Please report any experiences, good or bad, with him. DR. LAWRENCE SHAW 9522 E.
