Guest guest
WOW! There are 126 possible combinations for some one with BPD to have symptoms (out of the 9 or so recognized by the professional community). I have been reading books lately of the more scientific approach verses the theraputic type. Not that I won't get to the other books on how BPD affects the family I just like to know more of what I am dealing with in terms of what the profesional opinions of etiology, heritability, and possible prognosis would be. I was amazed at how many people on this board are still actively involved with some one who has BPD. The whole 'letting go' of nada happened very naturally for my family because she cannot have a relationship with anyone. There doesn't seem to be a problem with tuning her out. I get asked and sometimes people try to make me feel like I should be more understanding of her mental illness but I reply that I have a life and a family that I need to focus on and so I would be taking myself away from them to cater to a mentally ill person that I am not qualified to help. One book was quoted as saying that they would be hesitant to diagnose BPD with out very strained family realtions. I know this is a KO group but lots of these BPD people that have been mentionsed since I have been reading the posts are married and seem to have relationships with others and that is something I don't get. Are these people just high functioning (if so what other symptoms do they present that concur with BPD) or are their partners just saints for putting up with them. Nada made it impossible to continue a relationship with her. She would fall off the face of the earth for long periods and live in homeless shelters to maintain distance after a disagreement. No one would ever think to invite that time bomb to a wedding or any family event. It just wouldn't happen. I am asking because again I like to think positive and feel that if someone with BPD has the ability to at least stay in a marriage then maybe there is hope for nada. Not that I and gonna watch that train wreck but just to think that maybe she'll meet some nice old man and not be totaly alone would be nice.
