Hi Rogene, Help Pass the Access to Medical Treatment Act The Access to Medical Treatment Act takes back from the FDA, your right to make decisions about the medical treatments and devices you use in your health care. Tell Congress you support the Access to Medical Treatment Act>> Thousands of people suffering from life-threatening ailments like cancer and AIDS do not receive the medical treatment they need. But it isn't because they lack insurance and resources. It's because some of the most promising treatments have not been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). But passing the Access to Medical Treatment Act would change this problem by putting medical decisions in the hands of the patient and their doctor. Help pass the Access to Medical Treatment Act -- and help save lives: http://go.care2.com/e/hQq/cl/fhMv The FDA drug approval process is lengthy, expensive, and can take over a decade to complete. Many companies are financially unable to undergo this process, and many patients do not have the time to wait that long. In addition, many of these complementary and alternative health treatments have been researched, approved and used safely and effectively in other countries for years. The purpose of the Access to Medical Treatment Act (AMTA) legislation is to amend current laws that restrict patients access to medical treatments, and allow legally authorized health care practitioners access to any method of medical treatment that has been demonstrated to be safe and effective. It will guarantee access to promising treatments like beneficial allopathic, gene therapy, and complementary and alternative medical (CAM) treatments, that right now are not accessible because of FDA policies. Having alternative medical treatments more accessible to the public gives many patients who face life-threatening afflictions another viable option in their health care choices. Go to: http://go.care2.com/e/hQq/cl/fhMv Passing the AMTA doesn't sacrifice patient safety. The bill requires full disclosure to patients of any possible side effects of treatments, and mandates that patients be notified if the federal government has not yet proved the drug to be safe or effective. It also specifies that only state-licensed health care providers working within the scope of their practice may administer the treatments, and regulates how claims can be made on treatment effectiveness. People should have the right to choose their medical treatment. Sign our petition and urge your Representative to pass the Access to Medical Treatment Act.
