Guest guest
http://www.fda.gov/medwatch/report/consumer/consumer.htm MedWatch reporting has been a problem . . . They don't respond to reports when you send your complaints. It feels as though you are just sending our complaints off into space. At one time, doctors were obligated to submit a report when drugs or devices demonstrated a problem. That requirement has been dropped. Now, it's up to individuals to see to it their problems get reported - As if everyone was born with that knowledge! It's great if you can get your doctors cooperation in submitting the report, but it's not necessary. We've been sending in MedWatch reports for years! They do issue a tally from time to time. However, IMHO, where I consider the MedWatch reports to be important, is going to be in indicting the government for NOT protecting the health of Americans in face of the severe problems breast implants cause. It will be the smoking gun that proves their incompetence and corruption! You can send in a new MedWatch report for EVERY different diagnosis that results from implants! . . . Guest guest
Doing a MedWatch form is important if you have had a negative experience with your implants! It is simple, it doesn't take long, and your experience will be on record. I agree that these reports are going to hurt the government in the long run, rather than help them. The intent was to help give the FDA an idea of problems associated with medical devices, so they could monitor appropriately. But their oversight of the whole reporting system is incompetent at best, typcial of the whole FDA mucky mess. These figures for breast implants are often cited in the media to give some idea of the magnitude of the problem. As Rogene pointed out, since doctors rarely do them, and many women don't KNOW about Medwatch reporting, I think it is safe to say that the numbers of Medwatch reports filed are just a fraction of the true numbers of women harmed! So, how can they know with any certainty what exactly is going on with women implanted with any kind of breast implant? They can't! And I think that is just the way they always wanted it. Still, get your form submitted. It is the least we can do, regardless of the incompetence of the FDA to do anything with them.
