Guest guest
Okay... I've another question that has rather been plaguing me for months and months regarding the use of weight when working your abs (as a woman). My Hers magazine had a great ab workout using the cable machine at the gym (I suck at technical names for things right now...brain won't function). I've been doing ones where you clip the rope attachment on at the top, kneel facing the tower holding onto the rope ends with them on either side of your head, crunching towards the floor. Those seem to work great, and I AM trying to develop my abs (not just going for the flat stomach like you get from pilates). For my obliques, I use the stirrup attachment, turn 90 degrees, pull the stirrup down so that my arm is slightly bent, and twist across, turning 180 to work the other side once I've finished my reps on the one side. Now that you know what I'm doing, my question is this: I have read (largely in men's magazines) that working your abs WITH weights can actually cause them to bulk up. I'm not really seeing that happen, and as is true with most " myths " as I think of them when it comes to women and weightlifting, but the question is still in my mind about whether there is something to this. In my opinion, the more muscles the merrier and I'll still look smaller once the blubber melts off... but just checking to see if anyone had any insight into this. -Lianne
