Re: An Implant That Grew inside my breast

Did you get the implants back? They can be analyzed to see what it is, but

I would guess it was fungal or bacterial and a growth that can also affect

your body. A number of women have had implants " grow " .

The implants are yours, and you have every right to get them back. They

should have been sent to pathology, so they should still be available.

No I did not get the implants back.

I assume he will test the implant. He said he wanted to keep it

intact so he could study it.

I guessed fungal or bacterial. Thank God I took them out early. I

originally had a December surgery date but complained about the pain.

What type of affects could I have or have other women had?

I would really like to hear stories from other women who have had

this.

I have been searching the internet and cannot find ANY information

about this 'side effect'. It seems to be VERY rare.

Not as rare as you might think. Wait until some of the others on this

group are up and about. You may hear some strange things. But I would not

trust what the doctor finds, you may want to have your implant tested

elsewhere.

Lea, it was the implant that grew, not the capsule. It obviously had some

form of growth in it.

Ann,

First . . . Congradulations on getting your implants

out and welcome to !

I've heard of implants growing too . . . Right now, I

can't remember who reported this.

Aside from a fungal growth, it may be that your

implant was absorbing body fluids. The shells are

actually silicone fibers that are compressed under

heat and vacuum. Fluids can pass through the shell . .

.. In particular, silicone oils passed through gel

implants from day one!

If possible, I'd have Dr. Blais in Canada check your

implants.

Did your doctor offer any explanation? Were your

capsules completely removed?

Please take very good care of yourself while you begin

your healing journey!

Hugs and prayers,

Rogene

Saline implants can grow also, as the shell ages, it can stretch, and when

something grows in it, it can expand. Gross indeed.

I hope it is just my own body fluids...and nothing else.

It looked like the implant had little bit of blood inside

No he did not offer any explanation.

He said the last patient it happened to that he had someone study

the implant and they found no results. It was a mystery.

Yes my capsules were completely removed.

I tried to 411 Dr Blais # but cannot find it. Can someone forward

it to me.

Any suggestions on how to get the implants as I know that he wants

to study it himself.

Thank you Rogane,

I wish I would have found this site just a few days ago!!!!!

The amount of information provided by the women on this site just

amazing. I would have know what to ask before I took them out

yesterday.

My doctor never mentioned a capsulectomy. So I dont think the

capsules around the implants were removed. I will ask him

today. He showed me the implants after he removed them but they

were all cleaned up and I did not see any scar tissue

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Here is some information that was passed on to me:

SPONTANEOUS AUTOINFLATION OF SALINE MAMMARY IMPLANTS

Authors: , O. G., Jr.; Benos, D. J.

Address: Dept. of Plastic Surgery, Brookwood Medical Center,

Birmingham, AL, 35209

Source: Ann Plast Surg, August, 1997, 39(2):114-8, discussion 118-21

ABSTRACT

This study was prompted by 5 patients (seen by O. G. , M.D.)

presenting with unilateral enlargement of the breasts 4 to 9 years

following augmentation mammaplasty with saline-filled implants. At

exploration one breast implant was seen to be markedly enlarged when

compared to the other, with a brownish yellow material that had the

consistency of serum.

Studies were undertaken to determine the permeability of the

silicone container to various body fluids and a study of the

contained fluid itself. Protein measurements, viscosity

measurements, and osmotic water permeability measurements were

performed. The results were consistent with the hypothesis that

these silicone implants were indeed permeable to both water,

glucose, and protein. We hypothesize that the mechanism underlying

this in vivo expansion is colloid osmotic swelling.

Why one breast should be more involved than the other is unknown. We

believe that this phenomenon is occurring more frequently than is

being reported

Ann,

I wish you'd found us first too!

Your doctor should have had your implants and capsules

examined by a pathologist - if he was doing it right.

Regardless, he has writen a post-surgical report that

you can have a copy of. Regardless of what your doctor

tells you he did, get a copy of the report and see for

yourself what it says.

It's possible that, if you still have your capsules,

you will get better anyway. If the capsules contain

contaminated fluid, your body may be able to fight off

the bacteria and get well. BUT, if you find that a

year from now you are doing everything right and are

still sick, you may want to consider having your

capsules removed.

In the meantime, take very good care of yourself. Eat

very healthy. Drink a lot of water . . . and take

probiotics to replenish the beneficial organisms in

your body that have been depleted. " The Maker's Diet "

is excellent. If it's a little much, consider it a

goal rather than a coversion. It will be much easier.

Hugs and prayers,

Rogene

Ann,

The body walls off non-self from self with tissue we

usually call a scar tissue capsule. It's really not

scar tissue because it has a blood supply though.

Sometimes when the body mounts an all out defense

against the implant, the capsule can be very thick,

even brittle.

The capsule may contain various types of cells that

can tell a lot about what's going on in ones body.

You might find that having Dr. Blais examine your

implants would help determine what organisms are in

your implants. Many saline implants had defective

valves that allowed fluids to travel back and forth

from the body. . . This valve stayed on the market

long after the manufacturer knew it was defective!

How are you feeling today?

Hugs,

Rogene

Wow ladies

He said he will think about giving back the implant to me because he

wants to keep it to do more studies

I can tell he is reluctant

This may get difficult ladies

You might want to remind him politely that you paid for that

implant. It belongs to you, and is rightfully yours. Tell him he

can buy it from you for a price if he wants to do studies. Ha!

Hello Rogaine

I have been told it could be a leaky valve

Physically I feel very good. I have not been sick (i.e. flu like

symotoms, cold, etc.) in over 6-7 months. I actually have felt

amazing, health wise throughout this ordeal ...except for the slight

breast pain which felt liked skin that was overstreched. I have

been told that is good news.

I will send it to Dr.Blais.

Emotionally I am distraught. I have been crying most of the day.

After speaking to the doctor I am worried it might be too late to

get the implants because when I asked him he said he needs to keep

it to do more tests...and that we can " talk " about it?

And when I mentioned medical terms such as " capsulectomy "

and " autoinflation " he seemed taken back. I dont think he likes the

fact that I am more knowledgable now.

I plan on doing that!

He said he was ok with showing it to me...and if I have that in my

hand he will not get it back

Ann,

It will be very interesting to see how your PS's lab

report compares with Dr. Blais' . . .

I'll bet there's no comparison! . . . Dr. Melmed told

me that his pathologist NEVER found mold, etc. in

saline implants! IMHO, you can't find what you don't

look for!

Did your PS commit to removing the entire capsule

before your surgery?

Rogene

Hello Rogene,

Did you send your implants to Dr. Blais? If yes can you forward me

how I can ship it to him.

I didnt find this website until the day after my surgery. I did

not know prior to my surgery to even to ask him to remove the full

capsule. I trusted he knew what he was doing and would do a

complete job. I wish I had found this site prior to my surgery.

He said that it was not necessary to remove the capsule, so I have

nothing to worry about, and it would have caused my breast to look

deformed if he did remove the capsule.

Or was he worried about the extra time it would take to remove it

$$$.

BTW ladies, what was the time frame after the bandages were removed

after explantation did your doctors take the stitches out?

He somehow forgot he did my explantation this week, thinking he did

it last week? After he took off the bandages he immediately removed

the stitches. And when I reminded him about the exact date of the

surgery he said he needed to put more tape to secure the incision?

I wonder if he made a mistake and took the stitches out too early?

I told my story to 2 ladies this week who were thinking about

getting breast implants and they have now decided not to. Thank God!

I will educate women every opportunity I get about ALL the dangers

about saline implants...because it is obvious that these PS never

will give women the entire truth!

Ann,

I didn't hear about Dr. Blais until long after I had

my implants removed so they weren't checked.

I would put your implants in a Zip Lock bag, then seal

them in a sturdy box to send to Dr. Blais. His address

was posted just yesterday. I know Lea has it if you

can't find it.

Your doctor is like 99% of the doctors out there. They

like to say that women won't get well after having

their implants removed . . . then proceed to leave the

capsules behind! Since they don't (want to) believe

that implants cause health problems, they see no need

to remove all the gunk left behind!

I can't believe your doctor removed your stitches so

soon! Duh! . . . Be sure to take it very easy so your

incisions don't open. They didn't remove the stitches

after my gum surgery for eight days! . . . and there's

no movement there!

There's no reason why you should be deformed if your

capsules were removed. The three doctors we recommend

the most remove capsules all the time. Nobody has

complained that they were deformed afterwards!

For the time being, do whatever you can to get your

diet in order and live as healthy a lifestyle as

possible. If you continue to be symtomatic, you may

need further surgery to remove the capsules. Not what

you want to hear, I know. I would try to give it a

year before deciding.

I'm so glad you are telling other women! . . . We all

have to keep telling women, over and over. Women need

to realise that, when they get implants, they may be

exposing theirselves to a lifetime of misery and

expense!

Also, wear a snug, but comfortable sports bra 24/7

until your healing is well underway. This will help

the internal scar tissue work to support you.

These plastic surgeons are considering only their own

pockets when they push breast implants! One plastic

surgeon told me, to my face that he made money putting

implants in and he made money taking them out. He said

he didn't give a d*** what they did!

Hugs and prayers,

Rogene

Hi Ann,

I shipped my implants to Dr. Blais and it was not a big deal. If

you go to our files section here on the website, you can access the

directions. There is a file called " Dr. Blais instructions for

sending implants " . Just scroll down past the folders that are

listed first and then you will see the individual files in

alphabetical order. Hope that helps you.

Rogane

Thank you for this information! I will take it easy. And wear the

sports bra. I asked him what type of bra I should wear and he said

I can wear any bra?

I had a feeling he removed the stitches too soon! He said he forgot

when he had performed the surgery...because he did so many implants

this week. Huh? Cant he read my medical file? Again he tried to

cover something up. I dont trust this man one bit. When I walked

out of his office and saw the long line up of women waiting for him

I felt like telling them all about my experience. I see him again

early next week. When he was probably supposed to take them out.

God bless you
