Palm Springs is the best airport. Indian Wells is located at the west end of the valley. The Palm Springs airport is located at the east end of the valley so you'll probably need to rent a car.

I believe you'll want to connect through LAX and take the smaller plane to the Palm Springs airport. Otherwise you're looking at a couple of hours drive from LAX to the desert.
