Guest guest
Nicola from what I read in several books, folks that have problems sleep ing and waking feeling shaky and weak need to take SOME adrenal meds at bedtime. I think I would try 1 pellet first then if that isn't enough you can go to two. I am SO unlucky I have a landlord that lives next door that lets his dog out between 3:30AM and 4 AM when he is home... SO I have built in can't sleep in in the mornings! YUCK... Anyway you can treat either the thyroid or the adrenals independently of each other but without enough thyroid in your system it is doubtful your adrenals will ever recover, and you may develop lifetime dependence on Cortisol. And treating thyroid with low cortisol will be a LONG slow process fraught with palps and possible panic attacks and extreme weakness and low energy. It is doubtful you would even be able to correct your low thyroid situation with low cortisol in the way. So yes the two are intricately intertwined, and though it is fine to treat the adrenals first, it is also necessary for healing for you to treat thyroid soon after and before stopping adrenal meds. -- Artistic Grooming * Hurricane, WV My Ebay Jewelry Store http://stores.ebay.com/valeriescrystalcreations The BEST thyroid website! http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/
Guest guest
Thanks Val. I will give it a go tonight and take some licorice as well to try and keep the cortisol from breaking down. I have had about 2 weeks of waking at 5.30am, and I am exhausted, and could really use the extra sleep. It feels counter intuitive though, dosing at night. I thought the body's requirements for cortisol tapered right off after the morning. It is becoming clearer that Isocort is not strong enough for me, but it is all I have for now. It is also very difficult anticipating my body's needs and stress dosing when appropriate. Don't think I've got it right yet. I have given up on trying to stick to 8 pellets a day - my needs are clearly greater than that. Thanks again. Guest guest
I've been taking a dose at bedtime for 2 years, otherwise I too couldn't get going until about 6 hours after the morning dose. I have found from suggesting a low dose to others, that 4 in 5 report they benefit and 1 in 5 say that the small dose keeps them up. When I started bedtime dose, I took like this Medrol bedtime 3 mg wake 2 mg 4 pm 1 mg worked pretty good, but I have changed the dose schedule quite a bit since then. Now I take 2 mg Medrol and 1/8 mg of dexamethsaone (replaces 3/4mg Medrol) at bedtime. I don't take anything at 4pm. Guest guest
Nicola, No expert here, but I have just started taking some of my Isocort at night and it actually helps me to sleep better. I tried 2, too much, deceided that 1 pellet is sufficient. I started doing this a week or so back, when my neck was aching soooo bad I could not sleep and just couldn't take the pain anylonger. I went ahead and took some Isocort and after 13 minutes the pain was gone and less than 10 minutes later I was fast asleep, and I slept for 5 STRAIGHT hours. I NEVER sleep for 5 straight hours. in OR ~~~~~~original message~~~~~~~~~~ I take the bulk of my isocort in the morning, leaving just 2 to take at about 3pm, as I am afraid of taking it too late and lying awake all night. Every morning without fail I wake up at 5.30am with a twitching in the adrenal area (which I have learned is an adrenal symptom, along with muscle twitches) and can't get back to sleep. I start the day tired, shakey, cold, irritable, and it takes me all morning to recover, and sometimes I don't. It's like I'm starting the day with a big cortisol debt already. Would it make any difference if I took two isocort last thing at night - would this help me sleep longer and give me less of an isocort debt in the morning? Or would it just keep me awake all night? Another question - can I treat my adrenal insufficiency without treating the thyroid? Or are the two interlinked - can't successfully treat the one without the other? Questions, questions. Thanks for any help. Nicola
