Guest guest
Our city council did a big thing during one of the meetings for National Volunteers Week, April 9 - 15th. They made a proclamation, printed out certificates, and announced it during council session the whole 9 yards. Now, I am not taking anything away from our volunteers - they give long hours for no pay and deserve the recognition, but I felt like we (Dispatchers) were being ignored. The Local Footprint Association put on a nice dinner for all Dispatchers in our County on April 20th and the city paid for our ticket (so maybe they feel this is all they needed to do). I finally made a banner and brought flowers, people walked by looked at the sign and said " what's that for? " , and when I told them they just said " Oh " and walked off. *sigh* But when I came to work Wednesday, I found out that the city manager had paid for ALL the secretaries in the city to have a 2 hr lunch, then bought them all gifts! Now I wonder what that cost, because there are probably almost 20 of them and only 5 Dispatchers! On a better note, our POA sent a bouquet of flowers to each Dispatcher, which was placed on our tables at the Dinner - it had a nice note about thanking us for 'watching over them'. But other than that, nothing else was done, no cake, no certificates, nothing. Oh well - that's my 'vent' for the month! '23 days and counting till vacation " (my mantra for now) Lori Paso Robles PD Paso Robles, CA " my opinions only, not those of my coworkers or employer " 911:: Secretaries' Day Well, yesterday was my " Monday " ...and what a way for it to start!! Shortly after going on shift, our doorbuzzer rang, and when I asked " Can I help you? " A floral delivery man said, " Yes, I have a bunch of stuff here. " What it turned out to be were flower arrangements and balloons for all the girls in records...... Boy, did that make my day! See, our department concentrates on National Crime Victims' Rights Week, rather than NTW.....so, for NTW,on that Friday..we " had " to show up at 2 pm....there, we got to cut a cake, were handed the printed out certificates from the Dispatch Monthly site (that I bought the paper for and printed out) and bottles of sparkling grape juice given by county in memory of their late LT.....then we got to listen while the new LT told us of some problems that she has seen and that we need to work on. From there, we headed back to shift or home or wherever..and the officers got to finish the cake..... Now....do I feel just marvelously appreciated??
