Guest guest
, I'd suggest reading the book " The Maker's Diet " . . . It's more than a diet book! Rubin considers it a 40 day plan to health. It sounds like you're doing everthing else to get better. It does take time, patience and discipline. You might find that keeping a journal of what you are doing and how you feel will help encourage you on those days when you don't feel you're accomplishing much! As far as exercise, since your muscle tone is so poor, I'd suggest doing some strength building exercises before you try anything very vigorous. You can find a line of exercise aids by doing a search for " Therabands " . My daughter uses them extensively in Occupational Therapy. They have colors that represent different strengths. How does you theraputic massage go? Can the therapist apply much pressure? Go very deep? Do you experience a sharp, deep pain when the muscle is stretched that disappears immediately? Fibromyalgia goes hand-in-glove with a sleep disorder. You need to get sufficient deep sleep so your body can repair tissue damage while you sleep. If your doctor understands FM, he/she would probably be willing to try you on some sleep medication like Ambien or Temazapam. Also, hot Espom Salt baths can help relieve muscle pain and relax muscles. I particularly like to take a hot bath before a massage and an Epsom salt bath afterwards. People with sensitive skin, poor circulation or open sores should not take Epsom Salth baths though. If you can set aside a short time several times a day to exercise it may be easier than trying to do it all at once. Also, doing an exercise very slowly and purposefully can be as effective as doing more rapid repetitions. Breath deeply as you exercise. Hope this helps! Guest guest
Hi Rogene, Thanks for your reply. i have been meaning to get "The Makers Diet", as I have heard so many good things about it. The deep tissue massage really does seem to help. It hurts at first and i am sometimes sore the next day, but I do feel much better the day after that. It seems the deeper the massage the more relief I get, and can now have a massage without having tears in my eyes form the pain. My new primary care wants me to start swimming twice a week to start building up some muscle tone and I think she will start me on some physical therapy and massage with someone in her office. What can I expect the Rheumatologist to find? I will see her for the first time the end of this month. My doctor says she is "brilliant" and I get the impression that she understands the implant/illness connection. I think you are right, I will just have to start slowly with exercise. Should I just work through the pain? In other words should I keep exercising daily even if I get sore and eventually the soreness will go away? Thanks for your help, Rogene S <saxony01@...> wrote: ,I'd suggest reading the book "The Maker's Diet" . . .It's more than a diet book! Rubin considers it a 40day plan to health. Guest guest
Hi Molly, I don't know much about using a mini-trampoline. A massage therapist I saw a few times recommended I try one so I did for a short while. It is supposed to help lymph drainage. I didn't notice any difference but that doesn't mean it didn't help. It's a tiny trampoline you jump on. She told me to put on some fast music and go for it. You could use it instead of walking, if you prefer working out indoors. Guest guest
We've posted several good links in the past regarding these mini- trampolines. I think they are a great idea, and very easy!
