Guest guest
Hi - I remember right after getting implants, I had some ribcage pain, I guess they were adjusting to the pressure of the implants. I haven't had mine explanted yet but my doctor didn't mention anything about a dented ribcage. I've had my implants for 5 long months (it feels like years) and but I wonder if it depends on how long you've had them, and how large they are. Guest guest
Now that is something I have never heard of before. It seems strange that the ribs would be dented in from the weight of implants....I guess I would think bone is stronger than that. I don't think this is something you need to be concerned about at all. Seriously, I have never come across this idea in the 7 years I've been involved in breast implant issues. I am surprised a PS would even talk about it! I did not notice any affect on my ribs and I had some very large implants. Mine were 500cc. Guest guest
I have had implants for almost 8 years and I have heard that they " indent " your ribcage, I just want to know how much and if your ribs can possibly recover from this. I have large implants and I fear I will be deformed after remaoving them. I don't want my husband to see deformed breasts. It is bad enough that I am losing my hair due to these stupid things, bald and boobless is not sexy and if I am deformed ...well I don't want to think about it. > > > > I was wondering if anyone knows if your rib cage will go back to > normal > > after being dented in from the weight of the implants, after explant? > I > > have been told that it will be like that forever by one PS and that > is > > will " pop " back out over time by another, does anyone know? Guest guest
I was not only told that it could happen but that it does happen to most implanted women. The doctors rarely tell the patient unless it is bad. I just hope it doesn't happen to me. > > > > I was wondering if anyone knows if your rib cage will go back to > normal > > after being dented in from the weight of the implants, after > explant? Guest guest
I'd like to hear more about this problem. How many women on our group experienced rib cage deformity? It has never been discussed on our forum before, although Shari has mentioned burning in her ribcage, I believe. I know that I had a strange dexascan, which showed osteopenia in my spine along the area where my breast implants would have been closest to. Perhaps there is an effect upon our bone strength....I have read in " Torn Illusions " that silicone has an effect upon calcium metabolism, although the exact problem is not discussed in detail. That makes sense also with the dental issues too. It seems that the damage breast implants do is never ending! Guest guest
I have heard of chest wall deformity from silcone implants. I have not heard much about this problem with saline. Every article I have read states that this outcome is very rare. Guest guest
This information is completely false and I have to wonder where your hearing such things? I had large implants and a difficult explant and never ever was told that anything like that was even a slight remote possiblity. I think that your Dr is giving you some bad information, maybe he doesn't want to do the explant I just don't know but I have been around this issue over 6 years now and NEVER Have heard about this, esp not in saline implants. I hope that your not going to let this Dr do your explant. I would probably be running from anyone that told me this type of false information. I also want to say I work in the medical field and I can guarantee you that your rib cage is not going to be affected by the implants, it is impossible, our ribs are very strong and it take a significant amount of trauma to break one let alone what your talking about here. I always find it so upsetting that Dr's use these scare tactics to try to scare women from explanting. It makes me so angry. If this was really something that happens to most implanted women, how come neither Patty nor I have heard about it and we have probably heard everything there is that can happen to implanted women....having been in this support issue for allong time. Please Please seek out another Dr's opinion ..... probably any one of the Dr's on our list would be able to clear this issue up. Guest guest
Yes but Patty ribcage deformity? I don't buy it. I would like to hear more about this because it sounds like maybe a Dr is using some scare tactic or else maybe he has some kind of problem removing implants. I have to wonder why he would say such a thing. I mean I went to Dr Feng and think if this was a risk she would have told me about it. I realize that there are things i may not know about but ribcage deformity from what? It makes no sense. Guest guest
, my PS is Dr Kolb. And she is the one who stated that there could be a deformity, so that is why I am asking. > > > > > > > > I was wondering if anyone knows if your rib cage will go back to > > > normal > > > > after being dented in from the weight of the implants, after > > > explant? Guest guest
Well this makes more sense but it would only be from silicone gel having to be scraped an maybe removed from the cavity and even then I am not quite sure how this would affect the ribs per se. From a medical standpoint it just doesn't make sense to me. I had my ribs scraped from the textured implants and I don't have any deformity at all. I think if one goes to a good surgeon for explant these things are not going to happen. That is why I would not just trust any old PS to remove implants no matter how cheap they might be. Sometimes you really do get what you pay for! In , " Jenna " <jgalatis@c...> wrote: > > I have heard of chest wall deformity from silcone implants. Guest guest
She states it has nothing to do with the scraping persay as it does the weight of the implants. Also she stated when I had my appointment with her that it is worse with SALINES then it is with the silicones, but it is usually not so bad that it is noticable. However I am trying to get more information about it. I would really like some help findingout more about it and not get told that it is a bunch of bull when a top PS is stating she has seen it first hand. I just need to find out more information any help is appreciated. Guest guest
She told you that? I have never heard that from my Dr. I would get another opinion on that. Did she say why there would be a chest deformity and what would cause it? I am really really surprised to hear this. I would love to know exactly what would cause this because again, I have never heard of anything like this except for silicone gel victims. I am sorry that she has told you this and can't for the life of me understand what would cause this. Hmmm? Well I hope that things work out well for you but I have to say, if it was me i would call another PS and see what they thing. Best of luck to you In , " swtlilblonde31 " <swtlilblonde31@y...> wrote: > > , my PS is Dr Kolb. Guest guest
Ok well I am sorry if I said it was a bunch a bull.... I just can't imagine that my PS who is also a top notch explant Dr would not of mentioned somthing like this to me if it was such a common problem. I guess that is why I assumed it has to be a Dr not familiar with explantation. So i can admit when I am wrong......but I don't necesarily believe this is something that has to happen since I know so many Dr Feng patients personally and not one has ever told me about a chest wall deformity and esp from the weight of the implants. That seems interesting since most implants don't even weigh much... I think I was told 500cc is one pound. So again, this sounds very strange. Did she explain anything more about it? I would want to know details and exactly what she means by this if it were my Dr. Apparently most of us here don't know about it so..... If I was you I would call Dr. Feng or one of the other docs and ask what the heck she is talking about. I would be upset to find out that my Dr did not warn me about chest wall deformity ........if in fact it was a risk In , " swtlilblonde31 " <swtlilblonde31@y...> wrote: > > She states it has nothing to do with the scraping persay as it does > the weight of the implants. Guest guest
An explant doctor has nothing to do with the developement of chest wall deformity anyway, just like they have nothing to do with the development of disease. It just happens as a consequence of having the weight of implant on your chest for a number of years, apparently. I would not make too much out of this right now, or get too concerned. Obviously, since so many of us have had explants and it hasn't come up as a huge issue, I would not make a big deal of it. Dr. Kolb is an excellent doctor for explant, as she is very, very knowledgeable about doing it properly. I am sure she will make you look fantastic! Don't stress about this, seriously! > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > I was wondering if anyone knows if your rib cage will go > > > > back > > > > > to > > > > > > > normal > > > > > > > > after being dented in from the weight of the implants, > > after > > > > > > > explant? Guest guest
I am calling Dr Feng here soon also but I have heard from more then one surgeon that this happens but its usually not noticable so most PS don't even mention it. I am praying like mad that I don't have it but until I explant I can't know. I found one woman on explantation.com that has the deformity, her name is lynn and she has posted replies to me there. Maybe you can ask her about it as well.Anyhow, I will keep researching it and let you know what I find. Hopefully dr Feng or Melmed will have some information too. Guest guest
Lynn yeah I know about Lynn in fact we talked and she told me her issue was from scar tissue if I recall right. Anyhow that was what I remember. I think it had to do with compressed breast tissue not anything to do with her ribs or an actual chest wall issue. At any rate if it is the lynn I am thinking of her breasts came out looking really good. She did not have a lift either I recall. Anyhow I spoke to Dr. Fengs office and they did not seem to think it was an issue. As said if it was a risk it would of been in my consent. I would not worry about that. You will come out fine. Don't stress too much. As long as your comfortable with your surgeon then you will be in the best of care. It really is all about how you feel with your Dr. I know for me just being in Dr. Feng's presence reasurred me. Guest guest
Hi, This did happen to me. My ribs sort of indent where the implants werethe implants were. Dr Blais told me that this was caused by the presure of the implants on the rib cage. I was explanted 8 months ago and hoped that this would get better with time. I started a yoga class after I was healed up and in the beginning had a really hard time taking a deep breath in and filling up my lungs. It hurt to do this! But that has gotten much better with time. swtlilblonde31 <swtlilblonde31@...> wrote: I am calling Dr Feng here soon also but I have heard from more then one surgeon that this happens but its usually not noticable so most PS don't even mention it.
