Guest guest
Hi Sis, Your description of your flares ring a bell with me. I had the same flares, the same responses to vitamins. When I first got sick I thought I needed to supplement with tons of vitamins, minerals, herbs, etc, but I found in the end, that my body didn't LIKE getting all those vitamins. I think it had to do with the liver. In any case, I have felt much better backing off of alot of vitamins. I do still take supplements, but I cycle them for the most part. Not in any specific date range, but I take them for awhile, then back off, then start up again and back off. I find it has helped tremendously. Also, I had the same experience with flares right before my period. Since many women with autoimmune symptoms experience a great feeling of relief during pregnancy, the medical community recognizes that hormones play a role in our illnesses. It is also significant that more women than men have autoimmune disease. I know you said your bloodwork is normal, but at the same time, that does not mean you are not having an autoimmune response. I never was diagnosed with anything autoimmune until 4 years post explant. So, things can be whacky with your immune system that blood tests haven't found yet. I don't want to scare you, but just let you know that what you are experiencing has been fairly typical. I am really glad you are getting ready to go through surgery! And super glad to hear your husband has finally come on board. It takes our guys awhile sometimes to get past the boobs and start seeing our pain. But that's great that he has come around. You are going to need his support during this healing journey. Stay positive! Things will begin to look up greatly after explant, and you will never have to worry about those toxic bombs in you again! Wishing you wellness, Patty --- In , " auntsisnj " <auntsisnj@l...> wrote: > > Good morning everyone. Guest guest
I found the same thing as Patty, except it was the metals in the vitamins that made me sick. I could take all the vitamins I wanted as long as I avoided all the metals. It was the toxins from the implants that had heavy metals that I needed to clear out of my system, and after that happened, I could take most supplements again. I did not avoid most vitamins, but there were no multi-vitamins that I could take for years. Lynda At 07:59 AM 10/14/2005, you wrote: >Hi Sis, >Your description of your flares ring a bell with me. Guest guest
Great info, Lynda. I never thought to look at just the metals in vitamins. And yes, I had problems with multi-vitamins and minerals too! DUH. I am allergic to metals (can't wear most jewelry except for 14K gold). I've done alot of heavy metal detoxing, so I am hopefully beyond all that now. But I still cycle my vitamins and that seems to work well. Magnesium is one that I think is vitally important for us. Guest guest
Yes, I can take Magnesium and also iron now, and there is copper and zinc, etc. in my multi. I do take days where I limit my vitamins to a few essentials. I also have problems with metals in jewelry, but I can wear surgical steel and 14-18K gold. I can wear the others for a few hours and then they start itching. I also did a lot of heavy metal detoxing in the first two years after explant. Guest guest
I am glad you mentioned that about the surgical steel! That piece of file that broke off in my root during the root canal is surgical stainless steel (so he tells me--I think his assistant also mentioned titanium as a possibility, which I do not want left in me!) I am just praying that they will be able to remove it finally on the 25th. Thanks Lynda. It seems quite a few of us share this thing with metal allergies. Guest guest
Boy, I did not know that they broke something off in your mouth. Darn. Titanium does not react on most people, and dental implants are titanium. A few people have problems, but for the most part, I have heard of people having them 40 years with no problems. I know I have staples in my chest (did not know they were putting them there) and they are titanium and perhaps some tungsten. I sure would not have had them if I had known they were doing it. Guest guest
Sis, Congrats on the upcoming surgery. I'll be having mine on the 5th with Melmed. Your up-and-down symptoms sound familiar--I've been having that experience as well. There was awhile there (before I realized it was the implants that were making me sick) when I started feeling better--not good, mind you, just a little better--and I thought I was back on the road to health. But then I started feeling worse again. I lost weight, too, and weighed less than when I was in high school! Believe me, it did not look pretty. My partner said I looked like a POW. Thank goodness I have gained it back. For me, supplements and herbs have helped alot to get me to a plateau where I can stand to be alive(instead of being so sick that I wished I was dead) and now it's just damage control until the Aliens are out. I am trying to be really kind to myself until the surgery. Perhaps you can do the same. Take lots of baths, listen to music, take walks, eat well, and try and relax. I know for me that stress really makes me feel worse--I think the higher level of cortisol we produce when stressed is especially hard on our already overwhelmed bodies. Good luck! Let's compare notes on healing afterwards. xo Melinda Countdown to Surgery on 11/7 Good morning everyone. Had a few weeks where I felt really good, a little taste of what it might be like to be normal again after 5 months of suffering (5 months that feels like years, but I know there are others who have suffered a whole lot longer than me). Actually I wonder if feeling good for the last few weeks was in part due to some vitamins I was taking - I felt good for a few weeks on them, then felt bad and stopped taking them because it seemed like I had vitamin A toxicity, and for a few weeks after stopping the vitamins I felt really good. Even though they were more than my body could handle, they must have temporarily strengthened my immune system since I felt so good a few weeks after discontinuing them. Now I'm feeling quite poorly, my head throbs, my fingers are swollen, my fingernails and toenails also throb, and my vision is definitely blurry. I notice when I don't feel well, my fingers look kind of bluish. I also notice my husband is stepping me through things that he never had to before, so he must notice my brain fog. Thankful that I've only got a few weeks before surgery on 11/7. I've lost 10 lbs and I was thin to begin with. One thing I've noticed, and I don't know why, is that during my period I often feel better, but the week or two before my period my symptoms get alot worse. I'm on the pill and I think that aggravates my symptoms, because I think the pill lowers your immunity, so that might explain why I feel better during my period, because I'm not taking the pill. I'm thankful that I have some supportive family members and friends, really thankful to have found this site, and extremely thankful that my husband is finally on board with this (some of you may recall he couldn't accept that these implants were making me sick, but I gave him what he wanted and ruled out any other possible illness that my doctors could think of, plus I must thank his sister for yelling at him and somehow getting through to him). Interesting to feel so awful and have bloodwork all turn out normal. I have pre-surgical vitamins that I'll be taking prior to my surgery, so I'm curious to see if I feel good or bad on them - I want to give them a try, but I think I'll take 2 a day instead of 6, since I showed a sensitivity to too much vitamin A in the past. I don't have a question, I guess I just wanted to reach out to the group for support as I prepare to have my surgery. Dr. Feng is my doctor, I know I'm in good hands, I just ask for your prayers. When I postponed my original surgery of 10/5, I was totally distraught and felt hopeless, my husband was a major roadblock and in my heart I knew Dr. Feng was the right person for the job. I told my husband that I had two choices, suicide or surgery - and obviously I'm opting for the surgery. Sis
Guest guest
Lynda, I was wondering if that might be a culprit, too. Is copper considered a metal, this vitamin had copper in it. Guest guest
I wouldn't put to much thought into the good or bad days at this time and what is causing them, it is par for the course with autoimmune issues. They wax and wane and that is the way the disease usually is. Until the implants are out I doubt you will figure out why one day is better than the other because it is just such a roller coaster ride when the implants are in your body. I have a suggestion though.... I am not sure what you plan to do as far as children or how old you are but if you are wanting kids later on...I would try to find a different method of birth control if you can figure one out that you can trust. I just think hormones are not really good for you right now. Of course if you can't use anything else like condoms (i know hassle) but that is what I did ... we used condoms for a bit until we decided no more kids and then my husband had a vasectomy. But we have 5 kids between us and I am in my early 40's now. If you want kids think about some other way you can give your body a break from the horomones at least until after your surgery and after you start to get better. this is just an opinion and of course you don't have to do it though. As for the other stuff I honestly think you will be fine. I am fine and it took a bit but I really did get lucky because I can honestly say healing was only a struggle for a short time. I pretty much just got better and better after my surgery to the point where now I can hardly recall being ill. I did take vitamins for awhile and then I went off them and when I felt exactly the same I just couldn't see spending all that cash on them and I decided to just try to eat my vitamins in my healthy food! I am not by any means saying you should not try to take supps or anything like that at all, just that if I got better the way I did I am sure you can too and with or without the vitamins! Anyhow hang in there, you have a fabulous surgeon that really makes all the difference in the world! hugs In , " auntsisnj " <auntsisnj@l...> wrote: > > Good morning everyone. Guest guest
Hey - I'm definitely leaning towards skipping the " pill " this coming month. My doctor put me on them for the hormones, not for birth control. I went into an early menopause and couldn't sleep and was having night sweats, and he thought the pill would help. I think I've got about another week's worth to take, and then I'll see how I do without them next month. Might be a big help not to be on them for my surgery and I'll see how I do without them for a while. It's amazing, now that my husband is on the same page as me, and I've got the surgery scheduled, I already am starting to feel like I'm getting my life back. Even though I feel pretty crummy, it feels different knowing that there's a means to an end. About a month ago I was about as pathetic as a person can be. I just didn't feel like there was any way out of this. > > I wouldn't put to much thought into the good or bad days at this time > and what is causing them, it is par for the course with autoimmune > issues. Guest guest
Hi Melinda - I'm starting to feel like a new woman already (or like I woman I was 6 months ago) - I'm actually looking forward to a few things we've got planned, instead of feeling like I didn't want to go anywhere because I didn't know if it would be a good day or a bad day. Definitely would love to compare healing notes afterwards. I'm definitely a little scared of feeling worse than I do right now, but I'm trying to keep that faith that the healing will begin once my body is rid of this bio-crap! Sis > > Sis, > Congrats on the upcoming surgery. > Good luck! Let's compare notes on healing afterwards. > xo > Melinda > > > Countdown to Surgery on 11/7 > > > Good morning everyone. Guest guest
Are you sure you want to quit the pill just before explantation? Your body is going to be going through a lot of changes, is it wise to put it through hormonal changes at the same time? Hormones are tough to balance, I'm having issues now myself. I don't know if I would want to go through night sweats and sleeplessness along with surgery. You can always wait until after you explant and are recovered from surgery. Just a thought... Guest guest
All of our hormones must be in balance or we will notice symptoms. They are intricately tied in with just about every bodily function including immune function. That is why so many women notice so many symptoms during certain parts of their cycles. And being in menopause--surgical or not--can play havoc with everything going on in your body. But so can taking artificial hormones. I would suggest having saliva testing for all your hormones--adrenal, cortisol, estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, etc. and then go to someone skilled in balancing them with bioidentical hormones---these are usually made to order and done at a compounding pharmacy. they ar not synthetic. It will be very important for you to have your hormone imbalances addressed in order to make good progress in feeling well. Good luck. Hugs, kathy > > > > > > Good morning everyone. Guest guest
I am really really happy for you that your surgery is coming, I remember the feeling of waiting for that day to come and it was such a long wait but then it came and went as all things do and don't be surprised if you feel a bit depressed for a little while, or it may be just the opposite but just be prepared. As for the pill I would ask your Dr if you should just quit it right away or if the recomend some type of taper before you just stop it, but for me I never had any problems just stopping BCP pills. I would still speak to your Dr. but I would think it will help your body heal faster to not have the extra hormones, however, if your taking them for early menopause then that is something different than just trying to not get pregnant and I don't know if you will need another hormone replacement or not. There are bioidentical hormones now a days that are supposed to be really good. You may want to look into finding a Dr that can help you with these. Again good luck and just hang in there...the day is coming. Hugs In , " auntsisnj " <auntsisnj@l...> wrote: > > Hey - I'm definitely leaning towards skipping the " pill " this > coming month. Guest guest
Thanks . I'm anticipating that I could suffer some depression after the surgery, because I know after the explant things will look different and it takes time before the skin relaxes and everything repositions. I've been depressed for the past 5 months, so maybe it won't be a deeper depression than I've already suffered. Plus I don't know if I'm going to feel worse before I feel better, so those are things to consider as well. Hopefully the fact that it marks the end (or the beginning of the end) of a really miserable period of my life helps me get past all the other stuff. I also hope that just having these things out of my body is a source of relief for me. It's funny because this woman who I thought was my friend, and was very supportive before implants, disappeared once I started having problems. She has implants, and her daughter does too, but when I told her I was having problems it seemed to scare her and she started viewing me as some kind of whacko. When I told her I found the Saline Support site, she said " boy, you really buy into this crap easily, don't you? " I would think when implanted people reject any idea of problems, it must be out of fear. She might also feel responsible on some level for her role in the whole thing, and it's not her fault - I ultimately had the final say over what I did with my body. I e-mailed her yesterday and told her I was having them explanted, and I'm curious to see if she responds. Sis > > > > > > > > Good morning everyone. Guest guest
If you have toxic poisoning from heavy metals, you could have a reaction. I know mine was severe. But my implants were double lumen and were heavy with platinum. So I was very toxic. There are heavy metals used in the shells of saline implants. I would just experiment by not taking them, then waiting a week and trying them for a few days to see if you react. It could be something else entirely. Guest guest
Wow, that is such a shame about your friend, or who you thought of as a friend. It's so amazing to me how closed off women with implants are to hearing anything negative about them. I was on the pro-implant site only one day and got many negative responses to me even suggesting that my implants were making me sick. I'm sorry to hear your friend isn't being supportive, that's what you need now the most. With your surgery date coming up, you're going to need those closest to you to be there for you. I'm glad your husband is now supportive; that has to make a big difference in how you feel going into this. Hang in there...it won't be long now! Here's to hoping you get your life back! Guest guest
Hi Cheryl - I guess you find out who your friends are when you're sick. Luckily I have one true friend who I had told about the implants from the beginning, and she has been there through thick and thin, listened to me cry and express regrets - and she's a breast cancer survivor (she didn't need to have a mastectomy). Also two of my sisters know and are there for me, too. The other person was just a fair weather friend, I guess. Guest guest
My doctor knew which lab to send it to, but they are also online. You can order the tests yourself but then the insurance isnt' going to pay for it and it won't help you get the bioidentical hormones. Most pharmacies just sell the premade meds (aside from mixing IV solutions and oral antibiotics. A compounding pharmacy actually makes their own hormones to the strengths they want in the combinations they want. I am sure if your doctor deals with bioidenticals they will know the place they can send the prescription to. YOu can call doctor's offices and ask if their doctors use the bioidentical hormones before making an appt. The lab my doctor used is ZRT laboratories. Guest guest
Sis, Chances are your friend has a big case of denial . . . Talking about implant problems with you makes her feel very uncomfortable because your problems could be those she and her daughter face one day. If so, she'll need a friend . . . You may be the only one who understands what she's going through then. Hugs and prayers, Rogene
Guest guest
I agree with Rogene. My friend that got salines first and now has some weird symptoms refuses to beleive that her implants may be the cause. she says that these problems just run in her family. She gets very defensive if I tell her that implants can make you sick. She doesn't want to hear my story. Guest guest
That goes back to something I was pondering in a message last week, wondering if everyone who gets sick puts two and two together - and if their opinion on implants prevents some from accepting it. If she doesn't want to hear what you have to say, she's definitely scared but in denial. --- In , " mikat828 " <mikat828@y...> wrote: > > > > I agree with Rogene.
