Guest guest
, You should consider only going to a doctor that you feel comfortable with and who will do a PROPER explant. You need to become educated on what a proper explant entails, (which includes either an en bloc removal or one that includes a total capsulectomy, and also drains.) That way you can have a discussion with your doctor and let him know specifically what your expectations are. Many doctors just think we are stupid, and they sometimes take advantage of us because of that. Like leaving a portion of the capsule in, thinking that it doesn't do any harm, will eventually dissolve, or add a little fullness to our breast tissue after the loss of the implants. These are all poor reasons to leave a capsule in. That capsule needs to be removed. We have found that the implanting surgeon generally is not the best choice for explant, because they don't take our concerns about illness seriously enough. That is why we have our list of recommended surgeons, and even then, we caution women to ask lots of questions to make sure they are hiring the right person to do the explant. You only want to have to do this once, and it should be done right. Check out our files and links on explant issues. Or visit explantation.com and look over their information. Don't just rush into an explant because it is quick or convenient....my implanting surgeon said he could just pop them out in his office and it would be all done and he would do it for free. I turned that offer down flat, because it did not have my best interests in mind. I hope this helps you. You probably need to start doing some research. Call some doctors. Ask them how many explants they have done. Look for one that has done at least 150. Ask them if they use drains. (Yes, they should.) Ask if they do either the en bloc technique, or if they will commit to doing a total capsulectomy. Tell them you want not only the implants out, but you also want the scar capsule out completely. Ask if you need more help in getting this surgery arranged. Guest guest
Hi - if it were me (and actually it is me, I'm having mine explanted soon - also after 6 months), I wouldn't go to the original PS, especially since he's advising you against removing them. I'm sure the women on this site have alot more knowledge than I do, however from what I learned on this site, I would make sure to ask alot of questions when you have the consult with the surgeon on Nov 1. I'd ask if he removes the capsule and if he uses the En Bloc method (hopefully I've spelled that correctly). Since yours are only 6 months old, they might be thin capsules, but you don't want them left in your body. I'd also feel him out to see what his thoughts are regarding illness from implants. I personally feel better knowing that someone is removing mine who believes that they are making me sick - but that's my own personal preference and I'm willing to travel because of it. That's not an option for everyone, so I'd just ask the appropriate questions and go with what feels right. Guest guest
, We've found the implanting surgeon is usually the most discouraging when it comes to explant. It probably has more to do with their pride than with your welfare! When selecting a surgeon, you want one who will commit to removing them en bloc, and if en bloc is not possible because your implants are fairly new and the capsule is thin . . . then commit to removing ALL the capsule tissue. This is to ensure that nothing that may be contaminated is left in you. Hugs and prayers, Rogene --- sukeekitty <sukeekitty@...> wrote: > Hi Everyone, > I have definately decided to take my implants out > after only 6 months > of having them. > My problem is who should take them out?
