Guest guest
They are working ,but they are working extra hard to make up for the missing thyroid hormones. If you keep up at this rate, they will become exhausted and fizzle out. If you supplement them, then you can allow them to rest so that they don't overwork themselves and peter out. If you don't mind then it really doesn't matter.~ I am very confused about something here: If my cortisol level is high and I am putting too much out adrenaline/cortisol, does this mean that my adrenals ARE or AREN'T working? Why would I have to add cortisol if my levels are high to begin with??
Guest guest
For another perspective--and I may be the exception, but my cortisol is in the upper range, and I suspect I've had periods of high cortisol my entire life, but have never had fatigued adrenals. I call mine " SuperAdrenals " . LOL. Guest guest
Hi Janie, A word to the wise............. Most of us who now have adrenal fatigue or adrenal exhaustion had high cortisol for years before the adrenals just can't take it any more. Being hypothyroid for years without treatment, in and of itself, can put a strain on the adrenals that try to take up the slack. Any stress, even food allergies or sickness of any kind, over work, lack of sleep etc. all put a strain the adrenals which react by putting out more cortisol and adrenaline as long as they possibly can. When they have reached their limit then, and only then, does adrenal fatigue begin. For some that can happen early in life but for many it happens during menopause when all of the other hormones such as estrogen take a dive and the poor adrenals are left to do too many jobs. If I knew then (when I was younger) what I know now (from years of experience) I would not take the stresses in my life lightly but would do all I could to preserve my adrenals and and keep them from going into collapse. We all need healthy adrenals and to live without enough adrenal hormone is even trickier than to live without thyroid hormone. Take care of what you've got and don't take your " superadrenals " for granted. Normal adrenals don't put out too much cortisol only those under stress. When you allow too many stresses, physical, mental, emotional in your life you don't get to keep them.. It is easier to prevent than to cure....
