Guest guest
I have....I order it from Wildnerness Family Naturals by the half gallon. I've been through several gallons of it. I have tried to eat it alone, but I have a gagging reflex that kicks in too often. I have mixed it in smoothies with great success, as well as oatmeal. I bake with it, almost always using it in place of butter or any solid fat called for in recipes. Guest guest
I forgot to mention in my last post what it does for me...it definitely kicks up my metabolism! I also use it as a lotion...it is a great moisturizer. Patty --- In , " cnjcramer " <cnjcramer@y...> wrote: > > I picked up a book on the wonderful benefits from eating it. Guest guest
Patty, I never considered using it in place of butter. How does that work in baking? Do you have to adjust recipes, or do you just substitute it in like amounts? How does that effect the flavor? I LOVE coconut but my husband and kids don't. Thanks,
Guest guest
, I've used coconut oil in place of butter . . . Virgin CO tastes like coconuts . . .it's considered higher quality. But for cooking, sometimes the other works best. Chicken cooked with VCO is wonderful! I could eat VCO off the spoon, it's good! . . . but not the other! Guest guest
I was under the impression that Coconut Oil was not recommended because it contributed to high cholesterol. Am I confusing it with something else? If not, it sounds kinda yummy. ----- Original Message -----From: "Rogene S" Subject: Re: Re: Does anyone eat pure Coconut Oil?Date: Fri, 7 Oct 2005 13:16:30 -0700 (PDT),I've used coconut oil in place of butter . . . Guest guest
No read the info on www.tropicaltraditions.com . . . While VCO is a saturated fat, the body doesn't process the same way. It is yummy! I found it interesting that, months after the Tsunami devastated so many islands, one one island, they found a man very healthy after living on coconuts for months. Guest guest
Sis I too have heard mixed reviews about this oil too. I have used it in the past but have not for a long time. I had labs done and my cholesteral levels are amazing and low. I wonder if I did coconut oil if they would get elevated. Anyhow with the level being under 100 I think I am safe either way. Interesting stuff huh? hugs In , " Sis Canfield " <auntsisnj@l...> wrote: > > I was under the impression that Coconut Oil was not recommended because > it contributed to high cholesterol. Guest guest
The one strange thing about coconut oil is that it's solid at cool temps, liquid at warm temps. . . Patty uses it in baking . . . finds things crumble a little more. I'm not a fried food person . . . but, chicken fried in VCO is really yummy! Love, Rogene

Guest guest
Yes I agree with that Kendra. No matter how good for you it is you have to watch it because the bottom line is the caloric content is very high in oils. Use them sparingly. Guest guest
Molly, I have a glass-top cook surface . . . It's tough to cook without food sticking so I usually use 1/2 olive oil and 1/2 coconut oil. Eggs are good! It works well for stir frying as well. You may find that you don't like coconut flavor on some foods, so try the expelled CO for that. IMHO, assuming you are replacing an oil with an oil, and one is not over doing it, I see no problem with the calories. However, it does have anti-fungal properties. One might feel a herx effect at first. I won't serve food cooked in CO to guests for that reason. Hugs, Rogene
Guest guest
I think this is key for not gaining weight, replacing an oil for an oil, not adding an oil to your diet. Guest guest
That was the saturated fat boogeyman scare. Saturated fats were associated with high cholesterol, of course. But I have not seen that issue associated with coconut oil. And it does help jump start a sluggish metabolism. Guest guest
It is rich in lauric acid, which is also anti-viral and anti- bacterial. Guest guest
Interesting. Thanks. I never knew it had antifungal properties but allot of other things seem to as well that I have heard about lately.
