Guest guest
It sure would be great to know why, but since the medical community ignores the complaints of people like us, we may never know for sure. I guess it's like why are all my sisters fertile as heck and I can't have kids, or why does one sister struggle with her weight, but the rest of us don't? Why is one sister an alcoholic and the others aren't? It would be great if there were a test to determine who got sick from implants and who didn't. ----- Original Message -----From: "carrie41_fun" Subject: Family implant differencesDate: Fri, 07 Oct 2005 23:36:20 -0000So it has been almost 6 years since my explant and I am 100%recovered. My sister has had her implants (gel) for 3 years and isfine and healthy and happy and not had one day of illness or anything. What do you guys think is the difference between her and I and why didI get sick within 3 months of implantation (saline) and she is just fine.It sure has been hard for me to accept that I was just the unluckyone...and my family of course thinks it weird. they all have come tobelieve I am just sensitive. That is bull though since I am not reallysensitive to anything else...meaning no allergies etc.I work with some girls with implants too and out of all 5 of them onehas R/A the rest all seem fine and healthy.Wonder what the difference is and why no one has studied it! Wouldn'tit be great if there was a test so we could know ahead of time if wewould get sick or not? Like an allergy test? Seems so simple but ofcourse I know it is not. -- _______________________________________________ Search for businesses by name, location, or phone number. -Lycos Yellow Pages http://yp.lycos.com

Guest guest
It was long after 3 years that I became ill from gel implants. Any 'study' that tries to assert implants are safe with 3 years of data is meaningless. That would be like saying - well, because a smoker has smoked for 3 years and does not have lung cancer, that means cigarettes are safe. Or, because someone worked with asbestos 3 years ago and does not have mesothelioma, it means asbestos is safe. That's simply ludicrous. That is why a number of doctors in the FDA hearings were so concerned about the utter dearth of data the manufacturers presented. As to why some people get sick quickly and others don't -- there are many variables, including the type of implant, whether there is a manufaturing defect in the implant, etc etc. There also is the fact that some people may be genetically predisposed to getting autoimmune illness, for example. Contrary to popular belief, this does NOT absolve a manufacturer from designing an inherently dangerous product. Some people smoke for 50 years and never get lung cancer while others do. Does this mean cigarettes are safe? Of COURSE NOT. IN fact, I just had this conversation with my new rheumatologist (change of insurance plan). She - LIKE my former rheumatologist - absolutlely believes implants are NOT safe. She said she has treated way too many women to not know that implants are dangerous. She also believes that some people are more susceptible to certain types of illness - some people's immune system may be stronger than others. That is wholly independent of the safety or danger of a medical device. She made that point with me, that makes complete sense. \ > > It sure would be great to know why, but since the medical community > ignores the complaints of people like us, we may never know for sure. Guest guest
Ya sis it would be cool but it is just the way it is too and I sure don't dwell on it too much anymore. I was angry as hell for my sis getting implants after all I went through but, now I am at peace because I no longer have to stress on what will happen with my health down the road ya know. It is so good to be healthy and free of it all. I have read about your husbands uncertaintly and I wanted to tell ya that my husband loves my natural breasts and it has not at all affected our sex life. I really never had any doubt from him though, he was behind me 100% he told me he just loved me and not the bags under my chest. I hope that yours will come around and once you get well I am sure he will be thrilled to have the healthy you back! Good luck and god bless ya In , " Sis Canfield " <auntsisnj@l...> wrote: > > It sure would be great to know why, but since the medical community > ignores the complaints of people like us, we may never know for sure. Guest guest
Molly it does appear that women with gel implants tend to react slower or later than many of us saline girls. I wish I knew what the reason is! I hope my sis stays healthy as she has not had an easy life, but she knew what I went through and still got the implants so ya know, it is hard to not think she was warned and took it upon herself to get the side effects ....oh well. She is in her early 50's and about 11 years older than me and so far as I said she is happy and feels fine. She has gained some weight though and the irony in that is that she now feels too embarassed to go to the gym, so the reason she got them to begin with ( to look normal in her workout clothes instead of flat) has backfied and now she no longer wants to be seen in gym clothes at all. Plus when she got the implants she weight 115 and was tiny so they 300 cc implants were not so large or out of porportion, now that she is about 140 lbs she looks much larger in the chest. She should have skipped the implants but she felt deformed from losing weight. It is a mad cycle isn't it? Personally I would rather be the size I am right now than have big boobs. I love being petite and sleek looking. I feel a B cup is about ideal and as large as I would ever want to be, that is with me in a padded or add a cup size. I don't mind going braless either though, I think it looks fine for me, as I am pretty petite to begin with. Molly , thanks for writting. Guest guest
- thanks for your message. Hubby has finally come around, and is listening. I actually postponed my surgery because I couldn't deal with doing it under such duress (him acting like a creep about it). So, now I'm having it done on 11/7 with Dr. Feng and this time he's coming with me. It's going to be a difficult month because I'm feeling really bad now, and when I first changed the date I was devastated, because I could be sitting here now without this poison in my system. Guest guest
Sis I answered your emails but I was on the wrong account so I don't think you will see them. I wanted to reasure you that Dr Feng is the best and you will be in excellent hands. I had my explant and lift done there in 2000 and I am fine now. I have been completely healed for years now and living the life I never dreamed of. In Fact illness is just a faded memory for me. I hope that things go that way for you too, I am sure they will. She is the best Dr and I love her for giving me my body and my health back. My breasts are tiny but I don't mind, they are all mine and look great! Your husband will like them too, I know mine really loves me the way I am and he is so grateful that we can travel and have fun and do all the things I couldn't do when I was ill. Your going to be in the best possible hands. After my explant I was feeling so fine I went and saw some sites and being your going to be with your husband you may want to look into checking some of them out too. I took my mom with me and we went to Canton which is about 45 minutes from Dr.Fengs office and we saw the NFL hall of fame. We love football. We bought some souvenirs there too. Then we went to Downtown Cleveland one day and saw the Rock N Roll hall of fame and that was really really cool. That was all with my drains in tow too! There are also really nice restaraunts nearby the office and hotel....the embassy suites are really nice too. They have kitchenettes and there is a whole foods that was right down the street with all kind of healthy and yummy treats and awesome salad bar etc.... let me know if you need any other information on Dr. Fengs office and the area. I heard that there are some excellent shops there too....I did a small amount of shopping but not too much. Hugs, n , " Sis Canfield " <auntsisnj@l...> wrote: > > - thanks for your message. Guest guest
Hi Lea thanks for the wishes and welcomes. I am not sick anymore, so that is the good news. I have overcome my rather quick illness from implants and don't really have any problems left behind from it. I think the last thing to go was my heel problems and now that is long gone too. I am even wearing high heels again! lol! But anyhow Lea I do worry about my sister but so far she is fine. She has the newer gels so I am not sure about how they work as far as leaking and all. I know she is ok so far. Her boobs are huge because she has put on about 20 pounds since she got the implants but other wise she is ok. I am sorry to hear about your problems with silicone implants. That sucks Lea. I am hoping everyone can someday be cured the way I have been blessed. I thank you for your welcome Lea. Guest guest
, You were really fortunate to have had such an easy recovery from your implant experience. I wish it was that easy for everyone. Some women can hardly move, much less exercise. Diet and detoxing is an extremely important part of their recovery. We keep trying and sharing . . . The power of the group is so much greater than that of any single one of us! We just keep learning and getting better! I learn more every day. If conventional medicine had the answers for us, they never would have put the blasted implants in us in the first place! Their denial that implants cause health problems compounds their ignorance to the point they look really, really stupid! Rogene
Guest guest
Hi - thanks so much for your message. I was curious to know if the pain was less than it was when I got the implants, and I definitely spent the first few days after the implants in bed, so if it's possible to be shopping and hitting museums a few days after surgery, that's encouraging. Also great to hear some more feedback on Dr. Feng. I really do feel she is the right person for the surgery, and I'm thankful that my husband finally came around as well. I can't wait to get these things out of my body and get my health back. Guest guest
Yes Sue things are good and I am glad that she is well too. I am sad that we are not really talking anymore but feel at this time that is the way it needs to be. I am so happy to know your ok. I lost your email so I never did get to talk to you. Things are well here. My mom had to have heart surgery and she is doing great. Without this surgery we may have lost her, so modern medicine sure does have it's advantages. Guest guest
Yes my explant was very easy compared to my implantation but I don't think I ever said it was all easy. I was pretty ill and was desperate at times in fact suicidal. However with allot of perserverance and a good attitude and just doing one thing at a time (support of a wonderful husband) I did recover. It took me about 1-1 1/2 years to really get there but from there on it was all uphill. I had many setbacks in the beginning but they sorta helped me get better every time. I learned so much and have become a much stronger person for it. I agree that each case is different but, I don't think I ever said my recovery was easy. That is not the case at all. I was taking pain meds every day to get up and get to work....I think my fighting spirit was probably my biggest asset. Anyhow that is all behind me now as my health has never been better....lets hope it always stays that way ya know. Health is so fragile and one never knows when it can be lost again. I know for a fact that being as active as one possibly can if that means just walking up and down a flight of stairs or even just around the block whatever we can do...it really helps. I have done about everything there is from swimming to walking to light weights to heavy weights to pilates and yoga.....and even biking and hiking. It just takes time and yes determination. Of course there are sicker women than me, but I truly was at one time bed ridden so if I can get there I have faith others can too. We all have to find our own path sometimes and encouragment can really help Take care In , Rogene S <saxony01@y...> wrote: > > , > > You were really fortunate to have had such an easy > recovery from your implant experience. Guest guest
Sis I won't tell you there was no pain but minimal esp compared to them implants being put in. It is so much easier and yes I was out and about after the first few days.... most of the girls I know of that went to Feng have expressed the same comments. That they were out and seeing sights around cleveland within a day or two. You will be run down and tired the first few days but by 3 days you will be ready to hit the sites. So have a map and some cash ready for fun. I have actually got good memories of that trip. Hugs In , " Sis Canfield " <auntsisnj@l...> wrote: > > Hi - thanks so much for your message. Guest guest
Sis That is really great that your husband is going to go with you. It is bound to make your relationship closer and it will be really good for him to be there to talk to Dr. Feng too. Dr. Feng said that my husband could see how I looked after the surgery, but I nixed it. I didn't let Dale see me for at least 3-4 weeks. I was practically concave until they fluffed out. I am just telling you that so that you will be prepared if she asks if you want your husband there for a look too. I am sure for some women that wasn't a problem, but for me, I am glad that I waited for him to see the results. Guest guest
Hi Kathy - yeah, I think it will be good for us to be together during that time. I'm glad it'll be done and over with before the new year, I don't want to get used to feeling terrible. I have the feeling my husband would not want to see my breasts right after surgery, because he's quite squeemish. I think I'll do like you did, and show him 3 or 4 weeks later. I just decided to put pictures of me pre-BA in my purse, so I can bring it along to show Dr. Feng - perhaps that will help her in putting me back together. This is such a confusing condition - because some days I feel like I'm about to die, and other days I don't feel all that bad. Or I can start out the day feeling great, and then suddenly I'll feel terrible. I have to stop beating myself up for having the BA, and just look forward to getting the implants out of my body. I've been really tough on myself. > > > > > > It sure would be great to know why, but since the medical > community > > > ignores the complaints of people like us, we may never know for > > sure. Guest guest
Sis it really is normal that is how I felt too before my explant. I would wake up thinking, wow today I feel pretty darn good! And then I would realize that no matter what I had to explant those toxic bombs because I could not live with them anymore. If I had been totally cured with them in me I still probably would never have been at peace with my body so it was really what needed to be done. I tried to do what I could. I really could not afford allot of supplements and allot of expensive things so I did what I could afford. To me the most important step was the money to removed the implants and that I looked normal afterward so that I did not fall apart emotionally from being deformed. I think knowing that I looked good and that all that crap was out of my body helped me to heal so much. I was blessed that I did not have allot of yeast issues or anything like that. I did some really cheap things like soak in epsom salts baths and take raw garlic and some simple things like eat a really healthy diet with the money I could afford. It worked for me. Hey it is only my story and it may not be the same as everyones but it worked for me so it has to matter in some way to someone out there. I admit I did not spend a ton of money of detoxing or anything, but I found that working up a good sweat and eating a nice healthy clean diet most of the time really helped and that in the end I got well and that is what counts. I can't say I had a perfect diet but who does? I think I did what worked for my finances and for my situation it was the only alternative. Of course one I got married and moved to Idaho with my new husband I had allot more money to invest into my healing and lucky for me by then I was so much better that I felt the route I had been on was there for a reason and continued to do it to this day. I find that if I get enough exercise, enough sleep and keep busy doing things in my life, and that I am happy that this really contributes to my well being. I hardly even catch a cold anymore, so I know I am doing something right! I know that being healthy in a fitness way and not having allot of body fat helps because the body stores toxins in the fatty tissues so I know that has helped me allot. I also think some of it is just good old luck and good genes too. Anyhow Sis you do what you need to do, follow your heart that is half the battle right there, knowing what to do, listen to your body. I know my body tells me what to do and is right almost all the time. The girls here have some great ideas too. I think pretty much anyone that has been cured from this illness has allot of wisdom and should be a great source of information and stregnth. Guest guest
- you said it all. On the days when I'm feeling confused about surgery, I remind myself that my life will not return to normal if they are left in my body, and even if all the symptoms stopped tomorrow, I would forever worry about them. I don't even like having boobs, I find I wear bras that squish them down so I look like I used to, and I wear things to hide them. They just don't match my personality. I don't understand those who say they boost their confidence (on the pro-implant sites), because I think they've taken mine away. I just can't wait to feel like my old self again. Guest guest
It sounds like you have thought alot of this through--that's good! The way you describe your illness--feeling good somedays and not others---or feeling good and then bad or the opposite in the same day--that was very typical of mine. When I am detoxing and herxing to something, that still happens. But not as often by any means. Now those symptoms are usually just fatigue, or muscle spasms where they used to be all kinds of weird sensations, brain dysfunction, and irregular heart beats. It is common for symptoms to fluctuate after explant for a length of time---some disappearing, some leaving, then returning with a lowered frequency or severity, sometimes new symptoms appearing as the body detoxes, but then disappearing later. For many women, it is a procession of back and forth---often 2 steps forward, and then a step back. The length of time it takes for women to get better is very variable. Therefore it is best to be prepared for just about anything as far as what symptoms may or may not improve right away. Just know that you will be getting better!
