Dr. Kolb- United Healt Care Coverage

I am now leaning on going to Dr. Kolb, A- because she has been much

more personable and prompt on answering my questions and B- because

she thinks that since i have united health care that it could possibly

be covered since I am not having them replaced. Just curious if anyone

had there surgery covered by insurance. I would obviously travel to GA

and spend the money on a ticket and hotel if all will be covered

except my copay for out of network service. Thanks!

Lots of women have had ins. cover their explant if there is a medical

necessity to remove them. Medical necessity would be rupture, pain, severe

contracture (hardness), etc.

The doctors generally know how to write this up and submit it.

Hi,

I really wish that I could have had my explant covered by insurance. If you can find a good doctor that is personable and willing to answer all of your questions and also have it be covered by insurance then all the more power to you! It sounds like a no brainer to me! You go girl!

I had Humana insurance. My internist wrote a letter saying that MRIs showed my

implants

were ruptured and had to be removed. Dr. Kolb also wrote a letter.

Insurance paid 70%, because Dr. Kolb was out-of-network. We still paid about

$5,000,

when all was said & done. We were able to take an equity line on our house to

help with

the surgery, and it was WORTH every penny. As it turns out, the implants were

ruptured,

and the silicone was not contained by the capsule. Moreover, I had a staph

infection in

one breast. I am SO relieved I had them out when I did.

Did this just start, Lea?

From what I understand, bleeding like that may or may not be serious. So you

should get

in and see someone right away. TODAY.

The only bleeding I had was very dark (black), and it was an internal hemorrage

(GI bleed)

from a botched surgery. That clearly is NOT what you are experiencing, though.

Hopefully it is from hemorroids but since blood always bears

checking out, you should see the doctor. Please let us know what

I am glad to hear that. Perhaps the blood thinners and possibly a

fissure or hemorrhoids. However, the only way to know is to see a

doctor and have a check-up. Every case of rectal bleeding must be

checked out thoroughly. Please follow through even if the bleeding

The old silicone group, I guess that is me also, huh, Lea.

We are the originals, the ones who went to testify in 1991 and 1992 at the

FDA. The ones who have nightmares about what will happen if silicone

implants come back on the market.

I did not testify in 1991, but that was the first time I experienced some

numbness. A

neurologist then told me I had 'probable MS'. That didn't become 'definite'

until fall 2003/

early 2004.

Is there some span of years that silicone implants were more dangerous than

later years?

Oh I know I was not in original support group!! At that time, I thought

implants were just

fine!

The earliest implants had thicker shells that kept

them from leaking or rupturing so readily. . .

Eventually they all leak or rupture!

Because these implants felt so hard, they started

thinning the shells . . . Just laying a gel implant on

a piece of paper resulted in an silicone oil stain. In

other words, they leaked from day one.

In the meantime, the chemical mixture of the implants

changed by the batch. The workers added or subtracted

materials, virtually on a whim. . . There is a link

between batch numbers and severity of illness. Also,

standards of sterility have been ignored by some.

Saline implants have their own problems . . . Namely,

the organisms that grow in saline solution! Some women

die from toxic shock, or lose limbs, because of this

contamination. We've seen in this group how hard it is

to determine what pathogens women have to treat. That

the medical profession so blatantly ignores this

problem is criminal.

Some women have found out, only after having their

implants removed, that they were implanted with

experimental models. Some women were implanted with

used implants!

If there's anything that can be done to disregard the

health and welfare of women regarding implants, it's

been done! How the people responsible can look at

themselves in the mirror, or sleep at night is beyond

me. Completely reprehensible! Add to that, the

negative impact breast implants have had on the unborn

children, or nursing children of implanted mothers!

When I started SiliconeKids, I knew the children were

having problems. I had no idea how severe the problems

were! If the mothers make the connection, they often

don't want to acknowledge it to their children, or

discuss it publicly. Most women feel overwhelming

guilt - even though the medical profession still

denies a connection between breast implants and

children's illnesses.

Problems start with rashes, progress to digestive

problems, joint/muscle pain, scleroderma, MS, Lupus,

cognitive and mental problems, including deformities

of extremities and sexual organs. For the families

affected, it's a never ending nightmare!

Good grief....I can't imagine how many kids must be affected; and how horrible

the

mother's must feel about it. I " d like to learn more about 'silicone

kids'...maybe by email?

I think that my implants were made when they were thinner, BUT the surgeon used

double

lumen with me which I think were stronger. The first problem I noticed was

about 7 years

after implant, when a neurolgist said I had 'probable MS'. Dr. Weiss, the

neurologist I saw

more recently in Palm Bay, thinks that they probably were leaking by then, but

did not

rupture completely until later - when I really started getting sick.

I only thank God that my daughter was born before I had implants.

I have United Healthcare Insurance. I am scheduled for saline implant

removal on November 9 with Dr Cromer in Raleigh, NC. They sent for

approval for the removal of the implants, a capsulectomy, and a lift.

I was totally shocked when they called and stated that UHC had approved

every bit of it, even the lift! They said that it surprised them as

well. I even called UHC myself and they said that it had been

approved. The MDs office didn't even have to send supporting

paperwork. UHC told them that the surgical codes were listed as being

covered and there was no need to send any other paperwork. It was

definitely an answered prayer!

Could it be they have figured out it's cheaper to

remove and reconstruct than for you to be sick with

implants?

hey that is fabulous news for you! As long as they are going to do a

complete capsulectomy then I would be thrilled too! Even the lift will

be covered? That one I would question and be prepared that you may get

billed for it since it is cosmetic. I work in a medical office and

have never seen an insurance company pay for a cosmetic procedure. But

hey ya never know.

That IS wonderful news, that insurance will cover it. I think insurance SHOULD

cover

That is good news! I just got down to Atlanta today. Have my first

consult with Kolb this afternoon and surgery is Wed. I really hope

UHC covers the lift as well. In my paperwork it states that they

won't pay for surgery if it is to be replaces with another implant

so I am hoping it will cover it as well. I wouldn't think that it

would cover the lift since that is considered cosmetic but maybe I

will be wrong! I will cross my fingers. Welp I am off, I will keep

you all updated on my recovery and post pics as soon as I can! Take
