Guest guest
Corrie, My daughter, , is 3 1/2 and has just started walking (It is so cool to just watch her walk!!!) Anyway, she still wears a size 4 1/2 shoe and has been wearing that size for about 1 year. I don't think her foot 'size' affects her walking. The orthotics are for abnormalities in the foot and it's musculature. Mom to (9), Caleb (6), and (3 1/2, CHARGE) On Fri, 12 Mar 1999 23:06:55 -0600 spin1@... Guest guest
, Did crawl before she walked? I was just curious because Peyton has not shown any sign of wanting to crawl. He scoots on his back or rolls. He can go really fast using these two methods of mobility. I can't wait for the day he walks. That is great that walks. I bet you just love it! Guest guest
Corrie, didn't do much of anything mobility wise until she got her trach at 10 months old. Then she started doing the back scooting thing for a long time. Her PT really worked hard on her upper body strength because she hated being on her stomach and couldn't hold herself up with her arms to crawl even if she had wanted to. It was very hard work for her to work on crawling skills. When she finally started to crawl it was so nerve-wracking because she couldn't stay up on her arms for long and would bang her head on the ground. (And considering she had a cranial vault surgery to open closed sutures~that was a $50,000 head getting banged!!!) Another thing, had never shown any interest in crawling or getting in that hands and knees position. But every day her 4 year old brother would pretend to wrestle with her and pretend to sit on top of her. Then he would pretent she threw him off and roll to the ground on his back. (They have a special relationship) Anyway, one day during this ritual when Caleb rolled over onto his back she flipped herself over onto her hands and knees and tried to get him!! That's when she started learning to crawl. But she also started learning to stand holding on somewhere around the same time and everyone said she'll start walking real soon. Well, she did not start walking for another year and a half but she got real good at crawling. I'm sure Peyton will, too. We'll be thinking of Peyton. By the way, we have a CHARGE birthday list and I don't recall seeing Peyton's name on the list. If you want him on the list, send me his birthdate, and any other siblings names and birthdates and I'll add them to the list. We send them an e card from the list, as well as making a weekly announcement of the upcoming week's birthdays. My email addy is gweir@... Guest guest
Jeanie, So MacKenzie prefers to be on her tummy all the time?? > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------ > > I keep hearing about back scooting and it gives me shivers. Laying on her back would probably be deadly for MacKenzie. I swear the child has never layed flat in 10 months. It's been hard for her to learn to roll and be independent but I think it's given her the incentive to sit and stand. I guess it's what ever works with these kiddies. > > Jeanie Colp > mom to MacKenzie 10mos. Guest guest
, I just saw this message and I thank you for reminding me of the bile reflux and the reason for MacKenzie not being allowed on her back. There really must be a solution out there for this bile. It's times like these that CHARGE is the most aggravating. I'm sorry for what must have seemed like a not very smart question about Jeanie's MacKenzie. I only wish I knew the answer about who to ask or where to go for definite answers.
