Guest guest
Hi, , I've never used estrogel, but I did use bi-est cream (50/50 estriol/ estradiol) which was terrible due to flutuations and leg cramps. I'm assuming that estrogel is 100% estradiiol? I really like Vivelle dot patch...100% bioidentical estradiol...no fluctuations...easy to apply..change twice a week. Guest guest
I've never used anything but bioidentical patches, and although I liked Climara because it only had to be changed once a week, it was too big for my taste, so I went back to Vivelle dots, which although they have to be changed twice a week, are smaller and less likely to be itchy or cause a rash. Maybe there is some rationale why many women use estrogen creams or pills (i.e. they don't want just estradiol?), but I want only estradiol, so it seems to me that patches are way better, unless maybe there's some reason you feel that you can better "control" how fast it gets into your system if you use a cream (i.e. you have some reason for wanting a quick pick-up?). I don't know. The patches are totally straightforward and easy. Jane U. Guest guest
Thanks Colleen, that's very helpful. (estogel is bioidentical - it seems to work well for some, others not . . . the usual story I guess.) Does anyone else have experience re. other patches? Guest guest
Hi Jane. I too want only estradiol, which is why I stay away from creams such as bi-est & tri-est. I probably would have stayed with estrogel as it's only estradiol, if it wasn't for the side effects - ie, swollen, painful underarm lumps. So far, it seems like most who use patches like the Vivelle dot. Does anyone have experience with estradots? many thanks, > I've never used anything but bioidentical patches, and although I liked > Climara because it only had to be changed once a week, it was too big > for my taste, so I went back to Vivelle dots, which although they have > to be changed twice a week, are smaller and less likely to be itchy or > cause a rash. > > Maybe there is some rationale why many women use estrogen creams or > pills (i.e. they don't want just estradiol?), but I want only estradiol, > so it seems to me that patches are way better, unless maybe there's some > reason you feel that you can better " control " how fast it gets into your > system if you use a cream (i.e. you have some reason for wanting a quick > pick-up?). Guest guest
Hi Liz, Thanks for your suggestion . . . unfortunately, I did try the estrogel on my thighs, but it didn't seem to give me enough estrogen, compared to when I rubbed it on my arms (does anyone have any ideas re. why that would be?). . . and the lumps remained. Liz, do you still use the vivelle dot patch in addition to the 12- 14mg Olive Oil - 4 times a day (as on our database)? many thanks, > Hi , > > I may have missed this but can you not try the estrogel on your thighs? Guest guest
Gael, I wonder if a compounding pharmacy could make up an estradiol nasal spray or nasal drops? Maybe if we all call WIP they will consider doing it?? Have you tried using a glove to apply oestrogel to your neck and face? (A glove so that you do not get any on your hand that will drain to your lump area.) I think I get better brain effects when I apply part of my oestrogel dose on my carotid areas and some of my face (upper lip and chin just in case it helps with hair issues). Dr. G says not to apply oestrogel to our face because of the alcohol base. Well my Retin-A gel is in an alcohol base and I use it without a problem; I see no reason why oestrogel would be a problem unless you have sensitive facial skin (maybe just stay away from the sensitive eye area). I always try to apply my oestrogel right after my shower because I think it absorbs better then (I dry off and immediately apply it). Another thought would be to use some oestrogel on your neck and face plus some estradiol in olive oil on your gum and inner cheek areas. I have gum recession and I have been applying a small dose of estradiol in olive oil to my gums in the morning. If I get the amount right I can feel a good estrogen boost. I like to do this first thing in the morning and then go do my exercise and shower/apply oestrogel later. That way I think I feel better for my walk. Guest guest
Gael, The Women's International Pharmacy sells estradiol in olive oil with a RX called in or faxed from your doctor: http://www.womensinternational.com/ Their standard strengths from recall are 1 mg/drop, 0.1 mg/drop, and 0.125 mg/drop. If you have your doctor call in 1 mg/drop you can just dilute it with your own olive oil to get to your desired strength (buy another small bottle with a dropper from the health food store). They told me that they can make up other strengths as well. I think my little bottle was about $15 plus priority mail shipping. The only problem with them is that they only want to send you a one month's supply for your first order (just to make sure you like it). I wanted a 30 ml bottle but instead I got 10 ml bottle. Estradiol in olive oil is nice because you can use it so many ways (oral, sublingual, topical, vaginal) and it is inexpensive. With the Women's International Pharmacy they bill you with your order. When my order shows up in the mail I go to their site and pay my bill with my credit card. They have a location in Arizona and in Wisconsin. Guest guest
Gael, My doctor likes biest also and I just cannot figure out why. I tried it for a week and felt awful. I had to go in and plead my case but in the end I got what I wanted. I do like my oestrogel from MM better for general use but the estradiol in olive oil is nice for my gum application. My doctor agrees that it may possibly help decrease progression of my gum recession. I also mix a drop of it with my facial serum in hopes that it will help skin aging issues also. I was using estriol cream from MM for my face but I started thinking it was blocking my pores and making me break out so I switched back to the estradiol in olive oil for my face. I do not know if it would work with your doctor but if you plead the money issue thing it may help you get your way " the estradiol in olive oil will save me so much money—it is hard to afford all this because my insurance does not pay for it… " I told my doctor that I thought that the estriol in my biest was making me feel pregnant again with sore breasts and awful sleep (which was true). He almost did not buy that one though because he tried to blame my symptoms on the estradiol in the biest instead of the estriol. My poor sleep and horrible breast problems resolved quickly though when I switched to plain estradiol. If you cannot get your way with your doctor, WIP maintains a list of doctors that use their service. Maybe they have someone in your area. Kathy > > Kathy, thank you SO much!
