Guest guest
Daryl, He gave you Penicillin for a yeast infection? That's nuts! That will make a yeast infection worse in the long run. It kills the good organisms that keep yeast under control along with the bad organisms. You can get Monistat cream over the counter now . . . I'd suggest using that. Your diet is key to getting better . . . I know it's tough. But, just take one day at a time. I know you can do it! It can't be any more difficult than feeling so bad all the time! Guest guest
Hi Daryl, I'm right there with you, except my frustration is skin sores, but it's preceeded by a vag. & mouth yeast inf., every month for crying out loud & for no apparent reason. Luckily, I had skin sore cultures done yesterday; I've got to know what it is, I don't even know what I'm treating. As for you, Ro is right, antibiotics will cause the yeast to grow even more out of control. OTC Monistat would be best bet. The douche your dr. is talking about is the betadine (not perfumed) variety, it's supposed to restore the ph of the vagina. I'm so sorry you're having problems after all this time. Take care of yourself & go get that Monistat! Cheryl
Guest guest
I don't know if Daryl will write soon or not, but I got a call from her today and wanted to share this.... She tried the Monistat cream and it actually made things WORSE--she said she is raw and totally in pain now! It doesn't sound like a yeast infection at this point. I remember a number of years ago I was having some vaginal trouble. I kept going back to the gynecologist (this was before implants) and he kept giving me creams. None of them worked. I must have dealt with this infection for almost 6 months or more when finally I decided to go to a new gynecologist. She cultured the infection on my first appointment, rather than just throwing things at me to try. Amazingly, the lab results showed a strep infection! No matter how many anti-fungal creams that other doctor was throwing at me, they were not going to work. I needed an antibiotic! Patty > Daryl, > > He gave you Penicillin for a yeast infection? Guest guest
Hi Patty! I have had yeast infections severe enough that Monistat made them worse. I don’t know if it was a die-off reaction or the ingredients in Monistat just irritated me. For yeast infections, I always use Diflucan for that reason. Daryl definitely needs to get checked out by her gynecologist. The symptoms for a lot of different vaginal infections seem very similar. When I used to do water aerobics, I would alternate between yeast and bacterial infections because the pH of the pool messed with my pH. Kenda I don't know if Daryl will write soon or not, but I got a call from her today and wanted to share this.... She tried the Monistat cream and it actually made things WORSE--she said she is raw and totally in pain now! It doesn't sound like a yeast infection at this point. Guest guest
I once had a yeast infection and used the WalMart equivalent of Monistat and it turned into a horrible massive reaction. I was swollen and curled up in a ball from the abdominal pain and then had diarrhea and headache to top it off. it felt like food poisoning. Once I figured out that it was from the cream I took some acidophilus pills and shoved them into my vagina and was fine within a few hours time. I know that sounds funny but trust me IT WORKS! You can also take cold unflavored yogurt with active cultures and just cover your vaginal area with it. not only does it bring you relief on contact t also kills the yeast. If you use the pills make sure they are disovable gelatin caps and it helps if you lie down after you insert them.
Guest guest
- Daryl I know how frustrating this can be --believe me! You need to put more faith in yourself to find answers. I research all the time for answers and also put alot of faith in God to direct me to the right places. Right now I have gotten off of a long plateau by a few things. First, I am way too acidic. So I have changed my diet some, and am taking things to make my body less acidic. Specifically, Miracle 2 neutralizer and am using all their products which I just love!!! Second, I have gone back to a raw foods diet. Not entirely, but alot more of it. I am eating lactofermentd foods, drinking benefcial juices I make with beet and carrot, and drinking raw milk. I want to add raw cheese and butter and possibly eggs (as dr. mercola recommends). Since doing these changes, I have been able to really push taking herbs or supplements or things that used to make me herx badly with little or no herx. I definitely see it making a difference. Oh, I am also using magnesium drops with all the trace minerals and doing detox baths with the miracle 2 soap and neutralizer. You can also use the neutralizer as a douche for yeast, as an enema, you can take it internally, put it on all kinds of skin conditions...I am very impressed with these products and they were discovered by a man who gives all the glory to God for helping him to discover the formula. While it would be nice to fantasize that some doctor would come and stay with you and monitor you---it is just a fantasy. The overwhelming majority of doctors dont have a clue as to how to fix you. I find that being persistent and doing lots of reading online and trying different things and observing how I react to things is a good approach. Many of us who have gotten alot better or well have done this. Like Rogene has said, I figure if something hasn't got much of a chance to harm you, and might really help, I give it a shot. Sometimes that ends up in wasted dollars, but so does endless dr. visits and prescription drugs. Besides, if you don't have your health, not much else matters. I wish you could feel empowered to believe that you can find your answers, and feel the peace that God will direct your paths to it. Guest guest
Hi. I just wanted to inform all of you that vulvadynia feels like a yeast infection and actually most women think that is what they have. I had the exact same problem about 10 years ago. It can make you want to kill yourself. I was ready to actually take a cancer cream to that area or have a mutilating surgery. I found out about these idiotic procedures through magazine articles. God only knows how many women went these awful routes. Then by the grace of God, my brotherinlaw was watching a talk show where they talked about vulvadynia. He got the number because he thought my sister had this. She gave it to me. I hooked up with the vpf vulvarpainfoundation. They have a website. they saved my life!!! I went on an oxalate free diet, started on calcium citrate, and immediately felt some improvements. I also found that I actually had a very low level of yeast that constantly irritated my tissues. I started using oral nystatin powder as a douche. One tsp. in a pint of water. That never irritated me. My gyne happily prescribed it. For the last ten years I have used it anywhere from once a month to once a week and it has enabled me to pretty pain free. It doesn't irritate the way all other yeast killers do. I think it is because it is so mild and nonsensitizing. The research done by Dr. Clive connects vulvadynia to fibromyalgia. A huge proportion of people with vulvadynia also have fms. Dr.St Amand knows this too and has said that his guaifenisen therapy makes vulvadynia go away. I think anyone who has chronic problems in this area should go to the vulvar pain website. I only recommend this site. I have seen others, and I can tell you that theirs has the best recovery rate. I still support that group and a member. Guest guest
Hi Kathy, Do you have Interstitial Cystitis as well? I have IC and have kept it pretty much under control through supplements and diet. I have wondered if I also have vulvadynia but have never been checked for it. What are its symptoms? I’ll do a Google for the vulvarpainfoundation. Thank you! Kenda Hi. Guest guest
Kenda Luckily I dont have IC though at one time I felt like I was developing it. It is part and parcel of the same problem---as is irritable bowel. The low oxalate calcium citrate may help that too. I haven't been on the site for a couple of years so don't currently know what is happening. I used to get their newsletter through the mail. Their founder is very knowledgable. To this day, if I eat pepper I start burning down there again. I know Dr. Amand believes that all of that and fms will disappear with the guai treatment. I started on the gaui right before I got very very sick. I now wonder if it released so many toxins that I couldn't get rid of that it blew the lid off my illness. I have always thought some day I would go back to it. But I am currently a little fearful. Dr.Amand believes that something builds up in the cells (possibly phospates) and makes the cells toxic. For some reason people with fms can't eliminate it. Since it is at the cellular level, it affects everything in your body. He has good success but there are significant and prolonged herxes on the guai. It does make sense, but I also think that our cells will detox if we provide them with enough of the right ingredients. That is my current approach. I have talked to some people though who the gaufenisen treatment completely changed their lives. kathy > >>> > > Daryl, > >>> > > > >>> > > He gave you Penicillin for a yeast infection? Guest guest
Hi Kathy, My IC cleared up 90% with diet change and supplementation alone but it has flared up now for some reason. I wonder now if what I don’t have is vulvadynia because the pain isn’t up high in my bladder. I have been bad, drinking Starbucks a couple of times a week for a few months but that alone wouldn’t usually trigger a reaction. I am taking all of my bladder things from Dr. Leu now but will try to alkanalize myself too to see if that helps. I know the coffee is probably making my body too acidic. What does the calcium citrate do? Kenda Kenda Luckily I dont have IC though at one time I felt like I was developing it. It is part and parcel of the same problem---as is irritable bowel. Guest guest
Kenda I copied and pasted some info from their site. I used to have all of their newsletters in a file, but threw it away a year or two ago as i didn't need it anymore. The calcium citrate is timed to take when your urine has a high amount of oxalate in it. Not sure anymore what it actually does. They also use NAG and other therapies. IC is thought to be a sister disorder. Here is some info from their site: The Vulvar Pain Foundation (VPF) was incorporated in the United States (North Carolina) as a nonprofit organization in October 1992. It was started to end the isolation of women suffering from vulvar pain and related disorders, and to give them reliable information, hope, support, safety, and success in their search for freedom from pain. In February 1993, the Foundation instituted a membership program for women experiencing vulvar pain and related disorders, their families and friends, and interested health care professionals. Subsequently, medical doctors, nurses, physical therapists, nutritionists, and other professionals joined the VPF along with women and their loved ones. The Foundation's immediate purposes in 1993 were to reach large numbers of women suffering from vulvar pain, and to create public awareness of chronic vulvar pain as separate from and more serious than a " yeast infection. " During the next ten years, as a result of publications in the New York Times, Ladies' Home Journal, Women's Health Digest, The Scientist, Taber's Medical Dictionary, broadcasts of The Bertice Berry Show, NBC Nightly News, Voice of America, the Internet and more, over 50,000 people have contacted the VPF for information. The VPF sponsored 32 Research Seminars throughout the United States and Canada between December 1992 and October 2004. Nationally recognized researchers, clinicians, and therapists educated 1,787 women, spouses, partners, and health care professionals, resulting in recovery for the majority. Since 1993 the Foundation has published 24 issues of The Vulvar Pain Newsletter. The Newsletter features articles on treatments which actually work, as reported first-hand by large numbers of women who recovered. Successful treatments include those related to oxalate metabolism and connective tissue stabilization (low oxalate diet, timed calcium citrate, Ox-Absorb, NAG, HTO) available through a research project known as The Pain Project; topical estrogen, physical therapy, especially pelvic floor muscle rehabilitation; natural therapies, including emu oil; and guaifenesin. Based on research and overall treatment responses reported by thousands of women, it has become evident that vulvar pain is associated with a connective tissues disorder which also involves urological, intestinal, muscle, and cognitive discomfort (interstitial cystitis, irritable bowel syndrome, fibromyalgia). Many women with vulvar pain symptoms also report urological symptoms: urgency and frequency, bladder or urethral burning, and red blood cells in urine in the absence of infection. This constellation of urological symptoms also fits the diagnosis of interstitial cystitis (IC). Other typically reported symptoms include rectal itching and burning and frequent bowel movements associated with irritable bowel syndrome; burning mouth and tongue syndrome; and dry eyes and mouth associated with Sjogren's syndrome. Another disorder frequently diagnosed in women who have vulvar pain is fibromyalgia (formerly known as " fibrositis " ). Characterized by tender, sore, stiff muscles, fibromyalgia is usually accompanied by chronic fatigue and a cascade of full body symptoms that coincide with those reported by vulvar pain sufferers. Sinusitis, headaches, allergies, and chemical sensitivities are reported by fibromyalgics and vulvar pain sufferers alike. > >>>>>>> > >>> > > Daryl, > >>>>>>> > >>> > > > >>>>>>> > >>> > > He gave you Penicillin for a yeast infection? Guest guest
Hi Kathy, Thank you so much for this information. Where do you get your calcium citrate and NAG? Dr. Leu is out of town speaking at a conference so I can’t phone him. Kenda Kenda I copied and pasted some info from their site. Guest guest
Kathy, I hate to start taking guafenisen since it is a prescription drug. I’d like to steer clear of drugs if at all possible. The problem isn’t usually bad at all but is right now. I have had great success with detoxing alone but the low oxalate calcium citrate is something I’d like to try. I have always felt that my urine is too acidic, maybe this will help? Kenda Kenda Luckily I dont have IC though at one time I felt like I was developing it. It is part and parcel of the same problem---as is irritable bowel. Guest guest
guafenisen - What is it exactly & how does it work? I looked it up and saw that it was prescribed for fibro, but that its primary or original use was for eliminating mucus in sinus problems! What does it do for fibro? I have fibro, along with all the other stuff....groan. I am trying to find anything that will help with energy, focus, joint pain and losing weight. The latter I figure I am just going to have to grin & diet. But anythign to help pain & energy I'm all for. > >>>>>>> > >>> > > Daryl, > >>>>>>> > >>> > > > >>>>>>> > >>> > > He gave you Penicillin for a yeast infection? That's > >>>>>>> > >>> > > nuts! Guest guest
Hello, Guafenisen is used to treat sinus problems and colds. It loosens the mucus. Very effective for that. It is called mucinex. > > >>>>>>> > >>> > > Daryl, > > >>>>>>> > >>> > > > > >>>>>>> > >>> > > He gave you Penicillin for a yeast infection? That's > > >>>>>>> > >>> > > nuts! Guest guest
Molly, I've found deep, therapeutic massage the best thing ever for pain. . . With FM, the tissue covering the muscle (fascia) becomes very tight. This causes pain in the muscles and joints. . . A good massage therapist stretches this tissue. If feels like being cut with a knife. But only momentarily. Then the pain relief comes, and lasts longer than anything else I've tried. Some suggestions . . . take a hot bath or long, hot shower before massage . . . take a pain pill . . . and give the massage therapist permission to go as deeply as necessary to do the job. As time goes by, and the tissue stays stretched, the massages become far less painful as the therapist can work the deeper muscles. I have an incredible massage therapist! I see her every two weeks. For the first time in years, when I saw her, I haven't had a pain anywhere. . . She still finds spots that need work though. If you become a regular customer, you can often negotiate a lower price than the going rate! Also, infrared saunas are incredible! . . . Do a web search for " far infrared therapy " . The infrared light penetrates the tissues up to two inches. The sweat from far infrared shows more toxins are released than with dry or steam saunas. The air temp in far infrared is not that high . . . basically, it's heating the tissue, mobilizing the body's defenses as it would if you had a fever. Your energy levels will begin building as you exercise. . . Deep breathing exercise will help too. It's one step at a time. You're going to get there though! I KNOW you will! You've already come a long way. Hugs, Rogene
Guest guest
Kenda I think you can buy them both online. I don't really have a problem anymore so I dont' take them anymore. What helped me almost immediately was the low oxalate diet. I cut out pepper, chocolate, and other high oxalate foods. Did you go to their website? I havent been on it for awhile to see any updates. I also used estrace--another recommended treatment for awhile. It seemed to help. You use about the amount that you would put on a toothbrush and rub into that area nightly. It takes a few days to a few weeks to notice an improvement. Some people experience more irritation at first. I did and then there was improvement. Never use cortisone creams which most docs try to prescribe. Or testosterone which I had a doctor give me too. I don't know if you can still talk to Joanne Yount--the founder of the organization, but she is really helpful and knowledgeable. The phone number is listed on the website. To be the most effective, people were recommended to get a 24 hour urine test from Clive 's practice. It has to be a special test. Then he was able to see peak times that oxalates were excreted and timed the taking (and dosage) of calcium citrate to that. I never had that done, I just started on what most people took and it seemed to work for me. I would highly recommend joining that organization. Here is info on that: Network memberships are for current and former sufferers of vulvar pain and related disorders. The yearly fee for Network memberships is $40.00.* However, if you are experiencing extreme financial hardship, please let us know, and you may give whatever is possible for you at this time. You may also pay your fee in installments. Vulvar pain is a private disorder. The Foundation maintains confidentiality in all of its work. The VPF does not disclose or sell its database or mailing list to anyone. Participation in the VPF Support Network is voluntary. (Please see Network Membership form.) If you live in Canada or Mexico, add $5.00 to your basic membership fee for postage. If you live in other countries, add $10.00 to your basic membership fee for international postage. Please make checks or money orders payable in U.S. Dollars or the equivalent. Your Membership entitles you to: The Vulvar Pain Newsletter Invitations to Regional VPF Seminars Opportunities to participate in the VPF Support Network and VPF Support Group activities Educational resources at special low prices — Videotapes of VPF Seminars — The Low Oxalate Cookbook — Bibliography of scientific and medical journal articles — Supplemental materials Opportunities to participate in research studies and surveys Contact information on interested health care professionals Distribution of information to health care professionals on your request It really is a great organization and the newsletters are very comprehensive, often dealing with husbands and how to help them understand and support their wives as vulvadynia often affects sexual relationships due to pain, irritation, urethral symptoms, etc. Hugs, kathy > >>>>>>>>>>>> > >>>>>>> > >>> > > Daryl, > >>>>>>>>>>>> > >>>>>>> > >>> > > > >>>>>>>>>>>> > >>>>>>> > >>> > > He gave you Penicillin for a yeast infection? > > That's > >>>>>>>>>>>> > >>>>>>> > >>> > > nuts! Guest guest
When we have a little extra cash, I am going to do that. I have had massage therapist before, and they were wonderful. I would love to do that again. I am starting to stretch and exercise a little. Getting in the pool helps. Thanks for the encouragement, Rogene. > Molly, > > I've found deep, therapeutic massage the best thing > ever for pain. . . With FM, the tissue covering the > muscle (fascia) becomes very tight. Guest guest
Hi Kathy, I think it is my hormones that is causing the irritation. I am on an aromatase inhibitor to dump excess estrogen, just started it a few weeks ago. I am getting hot flashes now but Dr. Leu said that is normal because my hormone balance is changing. The aromatase inhibitor should dump the estrogen but allow my testosterone to stay a bit high, which he considers healthy. I’m glad you mentioned the hormone connection because at least I have a reason to associate with this increase in symptoms. Up until now, my bladder symptoms have been totally controlled by diet. Kenda It could, and so could a very alkalinizing diet. Seriously, you might want to consider that Miracle 2 Neutralizer and soap. First the soap is only a mixture of mag/calc/potass/otherminerals/ash of decadyl I think, energised water(eloptic I think they said). It is completely non irritating and has allowed me to take a bubble bath in it which I haven't done since a kid because of irritation to private parts. The neutralzier can be put on any irritation and also taken internally. Apparently the products have an extremely high alkalinzation of like over 9.0 thus the effect on the body. All I can say is they are helping me overcome herx effects when NOTHING else would. I love these products. Guaifenisen is sold as a prescription buy also over the counter. I think it is really pretty safe. It, like everything else, really works for some people, and works partially for others. It has no serious side effects, only nuisance ones like possible nausea dizziness, etc and the drug is described as having a wide margin of safety. Many people with fms have used it. It might be something to keep in mind if other things don't work. Also, I think that vulvadynia, IC, and others get worse around perimenopause and menopause due to fluctuating hormone levels which estrogen especially affects the strength and integrity of our tissues. That is why one of the treatments is to use estrace cream on the outside of the genitals. It strengthens them and makes them less likely to suffer trauma from irritation, sex, just about anything. Good luck. Hugs, kathy > >>>>>>> > >>> > > Daryl, > >>>>>>> > >>> > > > >>>>>>> > >>> > > He gave you Penicillin for a yeast infection? That's > >>>>>>> > >>> > > nuts! Guest guest
Thank you, Kathy. I have spent quite a bit of time on the website. I was looking for a “typical” time schedule for calcium citrate but haven’t been able to find it anywhere. Do you recall what times of day you took it? My problems seem most aggravated at night. I’ll check and see if Dr. Leu does the Oxalate test when he gets back from his seminar. He’s a world famous doc now, he’s speaking at a Xymogen conference this weekend. He has also been asked to be on the board of a supplement manufacturer to help them with developing new supplements. I hope he develops some especially for me. Guest guest
Wow Molly . . . Pool exercise is some of the best! . . .. You can get a great werobic workout with minimum joint impact! . . . Do you have some noodles or pool dumb bells to work out with? You're going to be amazed at how fast you come along! Guest guest
Molly, Noodles are long foam tubes . . . They have a lot of use in water aerobics. You can push water with one for resistance, or sit astride one to kick your feet, put one behind you with your arms over it to support you as you kick. . . . anything your imagination can come up with. Pool dumb bells are styrofoam dumb bells that are used for resistance exercises. . . pushing down, pushing forward in a paddle motion, doing jumping jacks, etc. The noodles are easy to find . . . kids love them, so you can find them at almost any dollar store. . . You can find pool dumb bells with an online search. They come in assorted sizes . . . start small and build up! Between the two, you can put a lot of work into a short workout!
