Guest guest
And how does the union like that? i cant imagine that that a friendly shop to work in between management and the workers.. >>> john edmonds 5/11/00 1:10 pm >>> I understand that feeling of being called on my day off because someone did not get the day off they requested so they are " suddenly sick " . Our supervisors have started sending a sergent to the residence of the dispatcher to make sure they are there and if they are sick. That really sucks for the ones that have to work on their days off and when they are sick have to see a police officer at their door when they don't feel like moving. Oh well, some people can screw up anything. **********
Guest guest
Union? Not everyplace has one, especially here in the South! EJ Fayetteville Communcations PS - And home sick today! I feel awful! Guest guest
The union over here doesn't saddle up much to the idea of an officer showing up at someones house to " check on their illness status " ....along with the fact that our officers union and our dispatch union are the same...hehehehehe....also...because of the fact that there are major problems between our director and the powers that be across the street. The officers would not do it...We send officers on check on the well being of citizens...but checking on some employees health status...to see if they are lieing is ....is...(looking for the correct wording)...hmmmmm....an intrusion of privacy. I will leave it at that...It is a employer/employee problem. Not one to get a PD or SO involved. I find it hard to believe some agencies officers would do that. just a meandering from me... My previous agency would do that. I worked fire/ems but the center was part of the sheriff's office. They would send a deputy to check on dispatchers who had called in sick who lived in the county and they would ask city agencies to check on dispatchers who lived in their respective cities. One city police department in a neighboring county categorically refused to do it, saying they didn't have time to do that sort of thing. I was told via a back channel that the agency's chief was heard to say that this was an internal personnel problem within the sheriff's office and that he would not involve his officers in such BS. They even sent a deputy to one dispatcher's mother's house looking for her. The woman went ballistic, BTW. Some of us made it clear that this was clearly an unwarranted intrusion into our personal privacy and we would not answer the door the the inquiring deputy. Period. Sick time is a benefit of employment. If you think someone is abusing the benefit, then document it and start requiring doctor's notes or some such thing. But don't be sending cops to my house to see if I'm really sick. -jackie Jackie McElroy y Creek Fire Dept.
