my department, by policy, my dispatchers orders are to be considered

from the word of the chief (as long as not illegall etc)

If they were to have this issue, they would go to the shift commander to

address it with him.

let me also add that we are not a logging agency for insurance companies

etc... we might not be inclined to take a report either, or if we did we

could give it to the station officer (a patrol man stationed in the station

that handles walk ins and phone calls)

Did you speak to your supervisor regarding this?? that 38 thousand

dollar machine we call the dictaphone can come in handy...

Message: Hi again fellow Communications Officers,

Here is a fresh subject for us to kick around... Last night a man hit a

deer, did considerable damage to his rental car. He called the Police to

report the accident. I gave the call to an Officer and made it clear that

the vehicle was a rented car, the Officer refused to go and told me to tell

the man to get a " blue form " , fill it out and send it in. (Here in Texas,

non-injury accidents on public roadways or private property can be " blue

formed " , both parties fill out a " blue form " and send it in to the DPS and

their insurance company) The man still requested an Officer, I told the

Officer that the man still wanted the Police, and the Officer still refused

to respond.

Now, I would your opinions on this. At every agency I have worked at,

Officers will usually do an accident report if it involves a rental car, due to

the fact that it is rented and could cause problems between the renter

and the rental company. Also, I have a problem with an Officer making a

Dispatcher handle the call for him/her, and especially an Officer refusing

to respond when a citizen requests the Police TWO TIMES.

Am I justified in being frustrated by this episode? Your opinions matter

to me, as I hold you all in very high regard as my colleagues.

Very Respectfully,

Steve W
