Guest guest
, Just a tidbit about the cottage cheese issue - I had never tried it before BFL because it looked so terrible to me. I was a very picky eater as a child - never tasted anything that didn't look appetizing. It was evident to me early on with BFL that I was going to have to broaden my horizons as far as protein was concerned and since I was an adult (age 39 at the time), I decided that I'd be more mature with my tasting and try healthy foods to see if I could stomach them regardless of how they looked. I went out on a quest to find a cottage cheese that wasn't as bad as the others - I did find one and now, 4.5 years later, it is a staple in my diet that I absolutely LOVE! There are so many different textures out there with cottage cheese - don't give up if you don't like the first few you try. I ended up with Winn Dixie's brand of 1%. I love to add Almond Accents to it and eat it with whole wheat crackers. I also gave up shakes after a couple of years - mostly so I could EAT more whole foods. I do use a protein powder when I need to and add a carb to that meal....maybe fruit or Kashi cereal. I also love Egg Beaters with fat-free shredded cheese in them for a protein. Can you eat just egg whites? And, last but not least, I like to grill lean burgers or chicken breasts on my Foreman grill and have them ready in the refrigerator at all times. I'm also a lover of albacore tuna! Sara > > As far as nutrition goes, I did terrible yesterday. As I posted on the > blfcalifornia board, I have a big problem with protein intake. Guest guest
Thanks Sara - I was under the impression that ALL cottage cheese was the same consistency. I learn something new EVERY DAY! I can't eat eggs at all unless they are in baked goods. I try them every time I am with someone that orders them, but I can't seem to like them. The pre-cooked burgers and chicken breasts are also a great suggestion! I think that I can manage to do that. I think my biggest problem is that I can get protein for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, but eating " meat " as a snack is hard for me to get used to. Albacore tuna is one of my favorite " low prep " proteins, but I can only eat so much albacore tuna. I like it with lettuce, a little mustard, salt and pepper. ~. --- Sara Altmyer wrote: > , > > Just a tidbit about the cottage cheese issue - I had > never tried it before > BFL because it looked so terrible to me. Guest guest
Hey , Sara already gave you some great input! Here's my two pennies... Don't try nonfat cottage cheese - it is disgusting. I always buy the 2% Knudsen cottage cheese. It's especially yummy with fresh berries as the carb. Pineapple and peaches are also really delish. Don't eat eggs if you can't stand them. There are lots of other protein sources you can eat. No sense eating something that makes you gag. Protein shakes are a great way to get a quick shot of protein. Unfortunately, you just have to try a few before you find one that is palatable to you. I personally use EAS Precision Protein or Optimum Nutrition 100% Natural Protein. These are straight protein powders, so you would need a carb to go with them. Protein bars are another hit-or-miss item. I recommend that you go to www.netrition.com and order some single bars (that's a really nice option so you are not stuck with a whole box of nasty bars). I personally like Labrada Lean Body Bars (they might have changed the name to Carb Watchers, but they are the same thing). Cookies and Cream, and Texas Pecan are my favorites. Otherwise, it looks like you will need to just cook ahead of time like Sara suggested. Good luck and let us know how it goes!! Jen B. Guest guest
, I am with you 100% on the consistency of cottage cheese grossing you out. I tried it in a blender (1 cup cottage cheese, with 1 cup of frozen mixed berries, 1 cup water) and if you puree it long enough it comes out about the consistency of a milk shake and it's awesome! It doesn't have that powdery yuck taste I'm sure you referring to with the other shakes you don't like. I HATED cottage cheese, but now I can't wait to get my smoothie. Identifying the specific things that lead to failure in relation to the goals you have defined allows you to then define corrective measures. So now that you know what you are doing wrong, perhaps you can write this list and let us know what the changes will need to be in order to get yourself on the right track. The you can set a day/time you will implement those new behaviors.
