Guest guest
As far as Wiley's qualifications as a researcher, here are some excerpts from my private correspondence with Dr. Formby (quoted with permission): " I was very surprised to discover how illiterate TS was in science and math. She knew absolutely nothing. She did not even know the difference between hydrogen and oxygen or the square root of a number. She was scientifically 'stupid like a Russian goat'. She told me she never had science and math in high school. When asked about college she told me she had an interest in anthropology, but never graduated. It took 4 years to finish the first book mostly because I had to explain everything. But she learned enough to apply her knowledge to the text. When we were asked more specific scientific questions on our book tours I always had to answer. " participated in the writing of 'Sex, lies and menopause'. I did all the science and explained it to both of them. TS was all the time completely aware about her lack of academic credentials. That is why she needed people like me and . She convinced me that if her name would appear on some of my scientific publications it would financially benefit both of us because we would sell more books. That was a great mistake because she has absolutely no knowledge about science and how a scientific laboratory with all the applied molecular techniques works. That I do regret and have considered to remove her name from the papers.. " " About TS as 'guest investigator'. In 1997 TS asked me if she could attend the scientific session of the American Diabetes Association meeting in Chicago in June. I was presenting research data from my studies on the synergistic effect of insulin on estrogen stimulated growth of breast cancer cells in vitro. We appointed her as guest investigator at Sansum Medical Research Institute for 3 months. By doing so she became affiliated with an academic institution which was a requirement for all applicants to be accepted to attend the meeting. We were all very nice to her and glad to be able to support an ordinary housewife with interest in bioscience to attend a scientific meeting. Nobody expected later it would backfire and 'push me down the river'. TS and her husband are awful people with a speciality in character assassination. " I do not understand why 'somewhat' still sticks to TS. 's husband, Bob, hates TS and refuses to be together with her. TS has so many enemies. " After her three-month " guest pass " at Sansum and with her name tacked on to a few of Dr. Formby's papers, Wiley seems to have felt safe in claiming: " I'm a scientist not doctor, a cancer researcher with a background in evolutionary biology. " (WmnsHormones group, 1/27/05).
Guest guest
So what does Dr. Formby think are safe amounts of P, and how to determine those per individual? I apologize if you all have given that info before, there has been so much to absorb on this list, the technical conversations about amounts, etc., I haven't paid a lot of attention to, since I am doing my doctor's recommendations for amounts. Guest guest
That must be why my doctor and staff were ADAMANT that I was supposed to call them with EVERY LITTLE CHANGE I noticed from the moment I started this program, especially but not limited to negative changes. I knew they expected me to PAY ATTENTION to myself. I was used to that in Chinese medicine and other alternative health 'worlds,' but not generally with MDs, not even Leah, although I only saw her every year or two for pap smears and general checkups in the 1990s, since I never needed her for anything else. I tried using some of the OTC P creams about a year before I went through menopause, but never felt I really knew what I was doing, and couldn't tell what they were doing, so I stopped. My husband didn't want me using them either. And I wasn't seeing an MD then at all, couldn't find one in AZ that I trusted enough to get into hormone discussions. Chinese herbs were working fine for me, for mild hot flashes and night sweats that I had been having for years if I went off of them for any length of time. It was after menopause that I turned into another person, and was hoping Leah might have something 'interesting' to tell me that I could do, since I hadn't seen her for six years when I went to her last November. The amounts of Chinese herbs I was needing were becoming too much for practical use, and weren't giving the results they once did, for the further I got past menopause, the more things seemed to be changing with my body and not for the better! LOL The rest is history, for yes, it was interesting all right, it was Wiley that she told me about....and I am feeling more and more like my 'old self.' I don't want to give this up for that reason. But I don't want to end up in a year or more with some of the things you all have talked about on this list, either. RE: Wiley, The Scientist I believe that progesterone is absorbed so differently in women that you must pay attention to your body and your symptoms. Any BHRT that a doctor prescribes is a guess. The feedback from you is what must drive the titration – not only blood and saliva testing. I personally do not trust our current technology for testing progesterone levels with the use of transdermal application.
Guest guest
Thanks for the link. I scanned those studies and read some other things on that website, for I never had really looked at it, other than to find it in a Google search for T. S. Wiley and when I found it, I immediately found the link to this list and have been on this list ever since. In reading some of the personal stories about excess P, and the problems with that, I realized that my instructions from my doctor have been very specific about the applications of the creams, and are not what Wiley says to do. I am to put the E cream on the fatty underside of my upper arm ONLY. And the P cream in the same location on the other arm. And I was ORDERED to NOT CHANGE ARMS (Wiley says to alternate arms). The nurse said they have figured out (at Isis Medicine) that changing arms doesn't work as well as using the same arm all the time. So when she explained the program to me initially, she emphasized that once I chose the arm for my E, I was not to change it! Leah explained some things about cream applications and buildup in the body and various places to apply and problems and frankly, I don't remember enough about what she said to say it to anyone. That was at my Nov. consultation with her when she told me about Wiley, so I wasn't trying to remember everything she told me about what she felt/knew didn't work. I just knew that my instructions, if I decided to do Wiley, were going to be very specific about how to apply the creams and where. AND it wouldn't surprise me if that changes at some point, because I think I remember her saying something about how we may have to change the place where we apply the creams after some time, but I can't remember what that was about. I see her at the end of this month, so I am sure I will learn a lot more than I know now! Can't wait to hear what she says about P overdosing! She always has been SO conservative about things like this in the past, it makes me even more curious to know what she is going to say, and recommend. I have my FIRST P blood test this coming Wednesday! That health product company I wrote about in the previous post that used to be owned by Yamanouchi refuses to make a P cream because it says there isn't enough research to prove that it works. They have some 'natural' menopause products, but my husband's traditional Chinese herbal formulas worked better for me, although a lot of women apparently do great on that company's products. They didn't do much for me. And now I am not supposed to use any of those things, of course, while on this HRT program. But I do respect anything that company says about research, because I know how meticulous the company is about things like that. My husband uses some of their products in his practice too, but he will be the first to say he is not a specialist in women's health, especially menopause problems, although he actually has helped a lot of women with what he does know. But if I have problems with the WP, I may go to Dagmar in N.C., or at least contact her (I talked about her in a previous post, so won't describe her further here). I would trust her with my recovery, if it becomes necessary -- I hope it doesn't! But she is the only person in the world I would trust, at this point, unless Leah goes into recovery too and we do it together! LOL I started going to Dagmar about ten years ago because someone told me she was the person to go to for P creams, for she knew all about them! As it turned out, she never thought I needed any and only had me use Chinese herbs for my mild night sweats I was having then, and a headache problem (lifelong) and some energy and stress things. She has written several textbooks on Chinese herbs that are used in the Chinese medical schools. __________________________________ Dr. Formby is very cautious about ever diagnosing or making recommendations. He is extremely careful about his wording when it comes to hormones. He points to scientific studies and it’s refreshing how much he uses the expression “I don’t know”. He prepared this list of studies which looked at rhythmic replacement. http://rhythmicliving.com/bhrt_summary.html
