Hi Guys,

I am still very, very new to this. I made my first appt with a

therapist for next Wednesday. I have been NC with my mom for almost 2

months now and it has been very difficult as she has no family,

friends, husband, etc. She is all alone. I do not even know what to

say...how to start...there is just so much. I get so flustered when I

talk about my mom it is frustrating. Also, I am 33 and never been to a

counselor of any kind ( except for pre marital with the pastor). Any

suggestions for the first visit?

Good for you! That's great! Yes, NC is difficult, but your

mother's " aloneness " is by design. Her design.

Plenty of people in this world have no family or husband and still

manage to go into their community and build relationships, intimate

and social.

A person who doesn't do this WILL end up like your mother. That has

always been true, even before you were born.

You have to take care of yourself now. Getting a good therapist is

the best place to start. You need to unravel what the FOG has done

to you, so you can best form your own life and your own

relationships.

Your mother made some unfortunate choices and it's sad to see

someone reap what they've sown. You can feel sad for her without

sacrificing yourself to save her.

And I will say this: If you don't mesh well with this therapist

after awhile, feel free to find someone else. Don't be discouraged

on therapy in general. You have to find someone that you feel

comfortable with.

Good luck!

{hugs}
