My family is at least safe, whether their house is or not. There are many

families who are not

as lucky.

Ordinarily I would never post a link to charities for contributions in any forum

like this. But

this hurricane is an unprecedented disaster. The Red Cross has said this will

be their largest

relief effort in the nation's history.

If anyone can help, now is the time. Here is a link to a MS paper that shows

charities asking

for contributions for Katrina survivors:

Thank you so much for sending the link! I know a lot of people will be donating to the Red Cross but the other organizations on the link need help now as well.

Lea, there is an organization listed that helps pets.

Hi Lea,

I gave to both the animal group listed and the Red Cross. I wish I could have people come stay with me, even though we are far from the devastation. My house is torn up now with the repairs so I’m unable to help in that way.

Kenda

Dearest Kenda:

You are so sweet. First my prayer would be that everyone will eventually find a warm safe place to wait for someone to come to their rescue. This is all so heartbreaking and should never have happened.

I do love animals and I'm worried about all the animals who will have perished in this deadly storm. I spoke to a journalist yesterday and she told me that there is a group called Ears and they are like the Red Cross, but they take care of all of the animals. She said that she had done a documentary on it and that is how she knew about this group.

Stay close....love you....Lea

Thank you Kendra!!! The " Noah's Wish " is great - people can forget how animals

are

affected by these disasters, as well as people.

My husband and I have found many 'blogs' on local television stations or

newspapers

where people trade information on family, or even locations to find out what

damage

certain areas incurred.

It helps to do something...better than sitting around wondering if you have a

house to go

home to. Of course, we are grateful my husband's parents evacuated and are

alive. Still,

they are elderly and we were worried about whether they had a home.

It is just awesome how computers and 'blogs' help in this kind of disaster. We

wrote in (at

about 3 AM) asking about my inlaw's neighborhood. I almost immediately got an

email

from someone who said her father stayed and was alive and well, and his house

flooded

but intact. Her father's house was closer to the bay and lower elevation, but

still within a

mile and a half of our inlaws. So this gave us hope.

I was so impressed with the sense of community and pulling together by all these

people.

It reminded me a little of our forums and the support we give each other here.

This gave

me such a good feeling.

Community is what makes us human and gives us hope for the future.

If you have family, friends in affected areas or want to find out about damage

to a certain

area, but don't know where to look, email me and I will help you locate them.

You are sooo welcome. Thank you for helping. There are sad stories about

people not

evacuating because they didn't want to leave their pets. People & pets in those

areas need

our help.

There are also blogs on local television & news stations where people write in

to share

information about family, friends & locations that have incurred damage. My

husband and

I found some information about my inlaws' neighborhood.

I was astonished and pleased at such fast resonse - within minutes of my

posting, I

received an email from someone whose father lived in a nearby neighborhood.

Tragedies of all kinds are horrible, but this sense of community should give us

all hope for

the future. It reminds me of the support that women give each other in these BI

forums.

If anyone has loved ones in an area hit by Katrina, or is worried about a home

there, look

up these blogs. If you don't know how or where, email me and ask. I'll help

steer you in

the right direction.

Molly,

Can you see if Deborah Pettitt, New Orleans, is OK?

She's the woman who started a study of implant women

recently. She's the head of York Clinical.

Since she's a nurse and her husband a surgeon, I

suspect that, if they didn't evacuate, they are

staying really busy!

Hugs,

Rogene

Wow. New Orleans is in bad shape. I was looking in Biloxi - also in bad shape,

but not the

wholesale flooding from the broken levies.

Let me see if I can find some blogs for New Orleans.

I will post them ..

Do you know where she is approximately?

Some of the forums are categorized by location (parish for New Orleans). Here

are some:

You’re very welcome. I wish I could help more, I’d love to have a displaced elderly lady or couple stay with me but my house is torn up right now and it will be for several weeks. I saw pictures of elderly women being rescued on the news and it absolutely broke my heart. Maybe once my house is completed I can help in that way.

I am an animal lover and am sickened at the thought of all the drowned and lost pets. I hope Noah’s Wish can help reunite people with their missing pets. What a great comfort it would be to be reunited with your lost cat or dog after being forced from your home.

I live in Oklahoma and there was a tremendous sense of community following the Oklahoma City bombing. It was so heartwarming to see people helping each other.

It’s going to be a long haul to get your part of the world rebuilt. Please keep me updated on ways we can help. After the newness wears off, the news coverage will cease and it will appear to the rest of the world that everything is ok, even when it isn’t.

Kenda

Thank you Kendra!!! The " Noah's Wish " is great - people can forget how animals are

affected by these disasters, as well as people.

My husband and I have found many 'blogs' on local television stations or newspapers

where people trade information on family, or even locations to find out what damage

certain areas incurred.

It helps to do something...better than sitting around wondering if you have a house to go

home to. Of course, we are grateful my husband's parents evacuated and are alive. Still,

they are elderly and we were worried about whether they had a home.

It is just awesome how computers and 'blogs' help in this kind of disaster. We wrote in (at

about 3 AM) asking about my inlaw's neighborhood. I almost immediately got an email

from someone who said her father stayed and was alive and well, and his house flooded

but intact. Her father's house was closer to the bay and lower elevation, but still within a

mile and a half of our inlaws. So this gave us hope.

I was so impressed with the sense of community and pulling together by all these people.

It reminded me a little of our forums and the support we give each other here. This gave

me such a good feeling.

Community is what makes us human and gives us hope for the future.

If you have family, friends in affected areas or want to find out about damage to a certain

area, but don't know where to look, email me and I will help you locate them.

Thanks Molly,

It doesn't look good . . . Her office is at 8200

Hampson . . . Right next to the Mississippi River,

close to St. Ave.

I don't know where she lives.

I've tried emailing her, but no response.

Thanks,

Rogene

You might try posting on some of the forums. I will see what I can find also.

We are pretty

exhausted from looking for my inlaws' home. But I can also post something about

this...

My guess is the office is under water if near there, but I don't know for sure.
