Capsule removal

Hi ladies, Don't want to bad mouth anyone. Just know of two women

lately that used Dr. Melmed & found out after surgery that their

capsules weren't completely removed. The one lady was told by him that

it was because of the risk of too much bleedeing, but I know Dr. Kolb

says she stops the bleeding then continues and removes the whole

thing. I also know that this one lady was having trouble with him not

answering her emails. Suprised she isn't posting here because she is a

member of this group. Just wanted to add my two cents of info that I

have!

-Check your operative report. It should have all the details of your

surgery and what was removed. That is how I founs out only one capsule

was removed.

The easiest way is to get a copy of your operative report from the doctor for the surgery. All surgeries have a report which details the steps taken to perform the surgery and the events throughout. I believe it is required by law.

Of course, we are trusting that the doctor has recorded the events of the surgery truthfully and clearly. You may be surprised at what you find. For instance, one woman who was told she was getting a total capsulectomy at consultation found out that she truly had gotten a partial capsulectomy. She underwent further surgery with a different doctor to get the rest out at great expense, but her healing improved.

What you will search for in the operative report are words that describe the procedure regarding the scar tissue. For instance, mine says

"....The knife was used to incise through the skin into the subcutaneous tissue and the Bovie is used to achieve hemostasis and continue dissection down to the breast capsule. The capsules were both followed around their entire perimeters to completely excise the capsules."

So, I know for sure that my capsules were removed based on this report. I had "en bloc" removal.

If you do not have a report and cannot obtain one, it is very hard to verify that the capsules were removed. The only sure way would be to open you up and see what's inside--not really an option unless some suspicious masses are found upon MRI or ultrasound of the breasts.

Re: Capsule Removal

How do you verify that your capsules were removed at the time of explant?

We won't tell. Get more on shows you hate to love(and love to hate): TV's Guilty Pleasures list.

I don't understand why you cancelled Dr. Kolb.

I would certainly go to Feng, or Huang, or Kolb.

Melisa . . . My explant, in 1994 was $12,000 . . . the best investment I ever made in myself. . . Too bad they don't warn you about the lifetime cost of breast implants BEFORE you get them! They cost me many times the explant cost . . . but I don't chose to dwell on the negative!Hugs,Rogene
