Guest guest
Hi , I had saline implants, two sets of them, and then went to silicone, which has made me very sick. Altogether three surgeries and waiting to do the fourth to get the dang things out! I was never happy with the results of the saline. I do know that some women do get sick with saline as well. There are other potential problems with them--in my experience, they don't feel as natural as silcone, and they tend to ripple. And there are the potential problems not uncommon to both saline and silicone--capsular contracture, bottoming out, etc. Also, potential nipple sensation loss(it happened to me!). Lastly, though I admit I do enjoy having an hourglass figure(I have a tiny waist and ample hips) I never really feel natural. I often feel that people can tell I've had a boob job. I've gotten tired of leeing men and snooty women staring at my boobs. Have you looked into herbal breast enlargement? If you aren't looking to be huge and are diligent and patient, it could very well work for you--I have a friend who has gained 1 1/2 inches and counting. A good place to look is Greenbush.net: http://www.greenbush.net/hargirbrease.html. They have high-quality herbs at a decent price. I wish I had thought of them before I put myself through all of this. Good luck- Melinda Considering Saline Implants Hi, I am considering saline implants and ran across this site. I was hoping some of you could tell me information concerning the risks. I've seen Dr. Kolb and she says she hasn't made anyone sick with saline yet. But still, I'm concerned. She says the smooth ones are better versus texturized. Could you tell me the symptons you are having and if your implants leaked or not. How long did you have them before you became sick? Did you get better after explantation? I have a lot of friends that have saline implants and are fine, but wanted to hear the other side. Thank you in advance for any information you can offer. If you became sick, do you think it was the silicone envelope itself, or the leaking saline (I thought saline was safe).
Guest guest
, You've come to the wrong group if you're looking for encourgement for getting implants . . . Not everybody gets sick, but if you do, it's 100% of YOUR life. And . . . most women who get sick, don't go back to the implanting surgeon . . . because they are the last to admit the problem. Guest guest
Dear , I am so glad you are asking questions about getting breast implants. I know that at this stage in the game, it is hard to want to give up on this idea, especially if you have been considering it for quite some time and/or saving up for this effort to make yourself feel better. You are right to be concerned. The risks associated with implants are much greater than many women are led to believe. I never, ever thought my life could have become so devastated from saline implants.... I thought they were safe. But I was so wrong. My life became a nightmare for about 4 years until I started to get my health back. It was 4 years of my life that I didn't want to give up, but I was forced to. They are lost years, but God didn't let go of me! Still, it wasn't worth the agony I went through, and I wish I had left my body and my health alone. DR. Kolb may have some opinions that you can consider, but I think you should also consider the fact that once you get implants, your breasts will never be the same again. Mine are not. I have lost sensation in my nipples, one quadrant of my right breast is numb. I have scars that run down my breasts, and along the bottom crease. I have an autoimmune disease that is incurable. I have to live with the questions of whether or not I have damaged my future health in some undetermined way. These are consequences that you may have to live with, and that no one can predict the answers to for you. In my opinion, the risks are just too great. Nobody can predict if you have a genetic predisposition to autoimmune disease; therefore, no doctor can rightly make a claim concerning their track record concerning implants and associated disease. This would take a crystal ball and well kept, flawless statistics. But do you want to take a chance at an autoimmune disease that may be incurable? To answer your questions: I don't believe my implants leaked. I got sick in 8 months. I got better in a little over 4 years after explant. I believe I got sick from a combination of the exposure to the silicone envelope and from a mycobacteria or other infectious agent. My list of symptoms was long...probably many of those listed on our home webpage. I wish you the best....please take care of your health and make a choice that will preserve what you have now....good health and a bright future! Guest guest
Dr. Kolb removed my silicone implants. At the same time I was there, I met another woman who came to Dr. Kolb for help for problems related to saline implants. I never had saline implants. However, I can tell you that after I had the silicone removed, I said " NEVER AGAIN " . Did I want to go through surgery every 10 years for the rest of my life? NO That's assuming everything goes right. That was my decision, but I hope Dr. Kolb outlined the things that can go wrong, too. She has seen plenty of defective valves in saline implants. I would ask her how she can prevent that. > Hi, I am considering saline implants and ran across this site. Guest guest
I had saline implants put in in 4/96. By 1/97 I had to have another operation due to capsular contracture - hardening of scar tissue that makes the implants look like balls and was very painful ... they were removed and put back in and in 5/99 I had a complete rupture in my sleep that required another op to replace it. I had them removed for good in 4/03 and both were proved to be leaking upon removal and seriously contaminated with mold and bacteria. I was very sick... I have gotten much better since removal and will regret the decision that I made to get implants for the rest of my life as they have basically ruined my life. I made my son ill with them - luckily he seems to have gotten better but I lost my career.... I have been on disability for 1.5 years and am pretty much broke as a result of losing my job... I cannot get life insurance and am only 34. Sorry for all the bad news here but I DO NOT think salines are OK - I had plenty of problems with them and 4 operations in 7 years. Not a very good track record. If you would like more info on my situation with symptoms, pictures of the moldy implants after removal, and the whole story please visit my page at www.BreastImplantAwareness.org/shari.htm There is a ton of good info here with links to other women's sites and very good data that should be a "must read" before you take the plunge...plenty of good doctor data as well. Please make sure you do all the research you can before you have the operation.... if you are one of the unlucky ones that gets sick there is no going back.... if you get better it will take years out of your life to get there - I am still working on it and so much precious time has been wasted with my family and my son... I thought "if I get sick then I will take them out - no big deal"... unfortunately it didn't work that way. Remember... saline implants have silicone shells - I had a horrible reaction to the silicone and upon removal they found 30% of the shells missing - that is all in my body somewhere which is why I am still ill. I also had a bad reaction to the mold and had to have two sinus surgeries within 6 months after my implants were removed. The docs think it stirred things up. I may seem like an "extreme" case but there are plenty of women on this site that have had much worse issues than me. Many had more operations, worse illnesses and some have even lost their lives over it having gotten Lupus or other diseases from the silicone exposure. Please read the women's stories here before you make your decision - it is a much larger decision than I ever thought. I was young and didn't think much about it being a big deal... I wish I were young again so I could do things differently shari
Guest guest
Hi , " Saline implants are safe, " that is what we were told/thought. The problem they (mostly Dr. Kolb) are finding is that the valves aren't staying 100% closed and once the saline begins to become moldy, that mold is circulating throughout the body, making women extremely ill. Also, silicone illness is being seen in saline patients because of the silicone shell. Illness isn't always seen right away, although in some it is immediate, it can take 5-8 yrs to show up. There are also thousands that never become sick, but with time, it is almost inevitable. You need to take into consideration that if you do get implants, you will need time & money for future surgeries. You've chosen one of the best PS for skill & informatio. Just mske sure you are completely informed before making your decision. Good luck to you & keep us informed as to what you decide to do! Guest guest
Hi , Maybe I read this post wrong but did you say that Dr. Kolb hasn't seen anyone get sick from Saline implants? I have saline implants and I'm sick. I know that it is from the implants and I've been doing research. I'm surprised that Dr. Kolb would make a statement like that. Anyway, don't get them as they will change your life forever. I'm one of the lucky ones. I have fibro and still able to work. I'm researching PS's to go to based on what I've read from other sites. They do make you sick. I just need to decide what doctor I want to have remove them. Good luck with your decision and maybe you should confirm what Dr. Kolb told you. Guest guest
What I read was that she has never made anyone sick with saline. I am unsure how she would know that unless she has followed every implanted patient in her entire lifetime of plastic surgery. No plastic surgeon can be totally honest making a statement like that. You could NEVER follow every patient ever implanted. Guest guest
I thought that is what I read which doesn't make sense as I can't imagine Dr. Kolb making a statement like that after what I've read. Guest guest
Well, Dr. Kolb does have saline implants and she is not as good about pointing out the problems that we can have with them as I would prefer her to be. Which is why I usually refer women to Dr. Feng and Dr. Huang. Guest guest
Hi, No what I said was that she hasn't made anyone sick implanting them. I guess she meant the type that she uses, where she places them, and having her patients replace them when she advises. Actually I had bi-lumen implants that were removed in 1992 and I'm still sick. I saw Dr. Kolb for de-tox reasons and she said that she had been sick and now had saline and was better, so I thought well maybe it's just the silicone. That is why I'm researching the saline. Did you do any detox? Have you gotten better? What doctor helped you. I believe my capsules are still in and Dr. Kolb said they should probably come out, do you have any information on this? Lynda mentioned Dr. Feng and Dr. Huang. Do they help with detox? How can I reach them? Guest guest
I think Dr. Feng may help with detox, but I do not think Dr. Huang does. Both have websites, and you can find them on our recommended doctor lists. I think if you just go to Google or and put in Dr. LuJean Feng, you will find her in Ohio. And Huang has a website: www.lindahuangmd.com Smooth saline implants also make women ill. Textured may be worse, but many women have never had anything but smooth and they are ill. Most of us have done some detox. That is the only reason I am alive. I had a ruptured silicone (double lumen) and it was dumped into my chest. Guest guest
Hi , I’m curious, how often did she advise to have implants removed? Guest guest
Dear Patty, I feel so stupid for even considering the saline. I had no idea that there were problems with them as well. I had the silicone (removed 1992) and I'm still sick, not as bad as before explantation, but still not 100%. I can't believe nothing about the saline has been in the news, and that women can still get them. No I will definitely NOT get them, but would like information on any doctors that helped you to get better. My biggest problem is fatigue, I also still have some pain in my back and hips mostly, but it moves around. -------------- Original message -------------- Dear ,I am so glad you are asking questions about getting breast implants. Still, it wasn't worth the agony I went through, and I wish I had left my body and my health alone.DR. To answer your questions:I don't believe my implants leaked. I got sick in 8 months. I got better in a little over 4 years after explant.I believe I got sick from a combination of the exposure to the silicone envelope and from a mycobacteria or other infectious agent. My list of symptoms was long...probably many of those listed on our home webpage.I wish you the best....please take care of your health and make a choice that will preserve what you have now....good health and a bright future!Hugs,Patty> Hi, I am considering saline implants and ran across this site. Guest guest
Saline implants have a silicone shell. If one is prone to react negatively to silicone gel implants, they will also react to the salines since the body has contact with the silicone shell first and foremost. You can't get away from the silicone. Patty > Hi, I am considering saline implants and ran across this site. Guest guest
Dear Melinda, Thank you for your story. I've decided against the saline, I had no idea they were just as bad as silicone. Thanks for the natural herbal suggestion, I might check it out. --------- Considering Saline Implants Hi, I am considering saline implants and ran across this site.
Guest guest
Hi, she said that she had advised one patient to remove her's because of an injury (car accident) and that the patient kept cancelling her surgery to replace them. -------------- Original message -------------- Hi ,I’m curious, how often did she advise to have implants removed? The plastic surgeon I saw said he hoped they would last a lifetime. We all know better than that. :)Kenda Hi, No what I said was that she hasn't made anyone sick implanting them. Thank you for your help. -------------- Original message -------------- Hi , Maybe I read this post wrong but did you say that Dr. Guest guest
Yes, we wish and pray for that every day. Guest guest
Thanks Patty - that is a very good point... just because Salines do not affect one woman doesn't mean they will not affect you. I had a friend that was implanted around the same time I was by the same doctor and still has her original set... she is now starting to have problems as it has been 10 years w/ CC and multiple other issues that she refuses to address but I got sick much faster.... she received textured implants also like mine.... I can only imagine what hers are gonna look like when they finally come out as mine were soooo nasty.... she agrees that she may get sick like me nut loves her "fake boobs" too much to get rid of them... sad as she has two young children - both of which were breast fed.... both of which have some issues... very sad I cannot imagine any doctor that believes in implant illness recommending to a sick woman to detox and get better then I will re-implant you... that is just plain crazy in my opinion. If you got sick from silicone then the silicone shell in the salines will be the same materials... I really am bothered by the fact that a doctor would say to replace them often and that she has not made people sick with them... she cannot possibly know the fate of every woman she has given them to... This is not the type of doctor I believe I would ever go to for anything if they think that way - of course just my opinion... shari
