Molly,

Early on, when insurance would pay for it, I

alternated between Ambien, 10 mg. (nice stuff) and

Temazapam, 15 mg. I was concerned that I would develop

a tolerance. I refuse to up the dose! I've never

noticed a tolerance. If there's something bothering

me, I still have trouble sleeping. That's when Sleepy

Time tea comes to the rescue.

My insurance quit paying for Ambien (I can't say I

blame them because it's so expensive compared to

Temazapam!)

I feel that, if I hadn't gotten better overall, 15 mg.

Temazapam may not work. As it is, it works well enough

that I can get about seven hours sleep a night. I quit

taking it for while to see what happened. I still went

to sleep - but I never slept deeply. I would wake

everytime my husband stirred. After a few months, I

decided I'd continue taking it and not worry about it.

I've used it, or Ambien, for about eight years.

If you'll take a good calcium/magnesium supplement

just before bedtime (with a big glass of water), it

can help you relax and help with regularity as well.

Here's a website with magnesium info

www.magnesiumresearchlab.com. I credit Dr. Mannsman

with providing me the information I needed to stop my

feet from burning (Erythromelalgia). Very important

info!

When you can up your walking to five minutes, try

adding another couple minutes later in the day . . .

then add another five minutes later. Moving the

muscles helps to move all the body fluids around and

out . . . in addition to getting air deep into the

lungs and with aiding your heart function. It can also

help you get physically tired enough that you can

sleep better.

Even doing chair exercises can help. The body is built

to move . . . when the body is inactive for prolonged

periods, the entire system begins shutting down.

Hugs,

Rogene

As a former drug and alcohol counselor, I can tell you that many of these

medications taken for sleep are not just physically addictive, but

psychologically addictive. My sister took some of these for 20 years. For

fibromyalgia and the sleep disorder. She is finally off all of them, but

it takes years to try to develop other methods and a more normal sleep

pattern. I would try EVERYTHING else prior to using any of these. I used

to take Klonopin for the peripheral neuropathy, and decided to get off it

and do everything else to try to ease the symptoms. It, like Terazepam,

are benzodiazapines, and highly addictive. They are relatives of Valium.

Ambien is only recommended for a period of 10 days or less.

It does take a lot of work to find other ways of relaxing and getting

natural sleep. Many will never do that, as they have symptoms that keep

them dosing themselves on drugs.

I worry a lot about us recommending these drugs to anyone to take. We

should always STRONGLY caution women about doing drugs for sleep if they

can find ANY other alternatives.

Relaxation tapes, Sleeptime tea, Magnesium, many other things. There are

supplements. Gabacalm, Melatonin, other tings that can be tried.

I never say that some may not need these prescriptions, but I hope we do

not recommend them. They can become a lifetime addiction.

You're welcome! Let me know how it works for you. The maximum dose is three.

Two is all I take normally but took three once or twice when I still couldn't

fall asleep. The really nice thing is that I have absolutely no morning

hangover. I wake up really refreshed. If you haven't had your neuro-regulatory

hormones tested, I'd do that too. Since I started on 5HTP, I have only taken

Serenagen a couple of times.

Hi Molly,

As I told Lynda, the maximum dosage is 3 but 2 generally worked fine for me.

Let me know how you do on it.

I did not find much help with 5HTP, but plan to try it again. Melatonin

kept me awake. Valerian does help, but I seldom take it.

Hi Lynda,

I began taking 5HTP several months ago, two capsules at bed. When I retested my

levels, I was still quite low. Dr. Leu bumped up my dose to 3 at bed. I have

not retested at that level to be certain that it is enough. Perhaps you need a

large dose, like I do. Another thing I tried was L-Tryptophan. It worked very

well too but I don't " need " it.

You crack me up! :) There is no better investment, right? :)

Your husband sounds just like mine! ;)

Kenda

Yes - it is an investment. I figure it is like groceries ;-)

The bar exam results - oh yes, there are things you should not let your husband do.

We were told at the exam the results would be posted today. I had looked the other day

and realized the feb results were still up so the July was not yet. WEll hubby looked today

for me and said the results were up but mine were not posted . Alarmed, I called the

board, and asked them why my number wasn't there. They explained that the Feb results

were still up and the July results would not be up until Oct. 7.

Boy did I feel silly.

And I have to wait another month,. ;-(
