I can't wait to see this film -- i've read the book three separate times and

it's a marvelous expozay into the corruption of big pharma. there is also a

statement at the end of the book about why he fictionalized what he researched

and the bottomline was that " these people kill. " Fabulous book, probably

leCarre's best, imho.

Hi Lea,

You are not lazy, you have had so much grief in your life lately and it really zaps your energy. Not to mention the mold in your house! The mold in my house was making me really tired. I found that when I left our house for the day I felt much better than when I stayed home. I know you stay home a lot so the mold could be having a profound affect on you. The mold is gone in my house now but the repairs remain. How is your fight going?

Kenda

We had heard about this book from a journalist whose life has been

threatened. Now they have made a movie, and all talks about is wanting

to see it. I refuse to go to the theatre because I hate crowds; we will have

to wait until it comes out on a DVD or videotape. I hope that every woman

who has been damaged by breast implants will get to see this movie.

I really feel like an emotional cripple these days, and I do not know how to

find the energy to do the things that I must do. I need someone to give me a

good kick in the behind to get me moving. Do any of you ladies feel this

way, or am I just lazy??

Sending love to all.....Lea

Stress and grief does sap your energy, that is soo true.

I hope you can get mold out -- that stuff is dangerous.

Have you heard of The Mold Warrior by Dr. Shoemaker?

Lea,

If your theaters are like ours . . . you won't find a

crowd weeknights or at afternoon shows . . . just

weekends.

I avoid crowds too . . . I think it has to do with all

the scents from perfumes, fabric softeners etc.. I

always feel bad after being in a crowd for any length

of time.

Love,

Rogene

Hi Lea,

I’m so sorry to hear things aren’t going well. The machine does work wonders, so if there is any way to get it, it will help. Perhaps your attorney could pay for it? Have you had any type of mold testing done yet? There is definitely a lot of money involved in water/mold repair. I hope our insurance company takes our builder to court and gets every dime they will have spent on my house.

The mold can make you very sick, be careful. I noticed a difference in how I felt immediately after the walls were opened. They took out all of the mold and are using four machines to clean the air and dry the room. We’ll have mold testing on Tuesday to be sure it’s all gone. Repairs should start here in about a week. I hope you can get going on your repairs soon.

What’s up with your gastro intestinal tract?

I’d never kick your butt. ;)

Kenda

Oh Honey:

Things are getting worse, they want to put a machine into our home to clean the air. It will cost 200.00 dollars per day and we do not have that kind of money. The restoration people will not clean up the mold until it can be identified. This all seems to be about money and if you are tired too, maybe the mold is making me sick. I have a very bad gastrointestinal attack tonight and it is so painful.

I hope that you are going to be okay. Thank you for not offering to kick my behind.

Love you lots....Lea

You are most welcome. Good luck to you in your litigation.

In my first year of law school, the apartment I stayed in flooded. I wrote my

first legal

research paper sitting in a foot of water, until a friend upstairs came down and

dragged

me out! Afterwards, the apartment management did not repair the building

properly.

They put some blowers on the drywall but did not cut it out and repair it. My

roommate

was continually ill with bronchial infections thereafter, and I suffered some

from it also. I

called the EPA (who was of no help then), and ended up becoming the local mold

activist.

I went from door to door with a petition. The manager was leasing out

apartments at a

higher rate, claiming they were 'newly renovated'. Needless to say, the manager

was not

happy with me. At least, some people got refunds or moved out - especially one

couple

was upset because they had a child with severe asthma.

I saw this movie over the weekend. I liked the book better (which I read 3

times) but the movie does a good job of portraying what I believe is probably

GlaxoKline as the wanton thugs and murderers that they are. it's

definitely worth seeing if you haven't read the book.

IDS TEST FURY

By JENNIFER FERMINO

Parent advocacy groups blasted the city yesterday for

bullying parents to get hundreds of foster children to

become guinea pigs in AIDS medicine tests.

They told a state Assembly hearing that the

Administration for Children's Services violated its

own guidelines to obtain foster kids for clinical

trials beginning in the late 1980s.

" If the mother refused consent, ACS would have taken

the child anyway and just charged her with neglect, "

Rolando Bini, head of Parents in Action, told the

legislators.

" Forced consent is no consent at all, " he said.

Critics said ACS had rules that would have protected

kids from being improperly used, but the problem was

getting the agency to follow them.

" Parents do have the right to refuse [to grant

consent], " said Folasade , executive director

of Concerned Citizen for Family Preservation.

" But there's a threat of [accusing them of] medical

neglect when a parent refuses, " she said.

During the hearing at 250 Broadway, members of two

Assembly committees heard testimony about the 465

foster children in the city who were enrolled in AIDS

drug tests until 2001.

" One of the big issues we're looking at is how consent

was gotten, if it was gotten, " said Assemblyman

Scarborough (D-Queens), chairman of the

Assembly Children and Families Committee. " That's an

area that needs to be explored fully. "

Last year, The Post reported abuses of the testing,

including the anguished account of a foster mother

whose two HIV-positive children were taken from her

because she refused to give them a potentially

dangerous cocktail of AIDS medications.

ACS officials yesterday defended the use of foster

kids in the tests, saying it was the best way of

combating the AIDS epidemic.

" Ninety percent of all children [with HIV in the city]

were enrolled in clinical trials . . . because family

members, guardians and caretakers all knew their

greatest chance of fighting this disease was enrolling

in trials, " Deputy Commissioner Austin

said.

Earlier this year, ACS hired a think tank, the Vera

Institute of Justice, to review medical records and

interview parents and guardians to determine what

happened to the children.

Their final report will probably take a year, but

Austin told the legislators, " We have seen no evidence

of any wrongdoing. "

" It doesn't appear that any child died as a direct

result of the tests, " she said.

But she added, " I can't definitively say that all

consents were obtained. "

Of course it's NOT fiction. LeCarre even says so at the end odf the book,

but he also admits to taming down the story because. . . as he so aptly put it,

" these people kill. " Knowing what what I know about how GSK dumped outdated

drugs into Africa, I'd be willing to bet that this is the pharma portrayed in

LeCarre's work.
