Guest guest
Hello, I am pretty new to this group and am looking for some advice as to what to expect after an en bloc procedure. I have mine scheduled for October 10. Does one feel pretty bad for awhile? Though I can't imagine feeling worse than I do now. Did some people notice an immediate shift in their previous symptoms or did it take awhile? I have silicone gel implants and my symptoms are chronic pain, brain fog, vertigo, exhaustion, TMJ, etc.,etc. I haven't worked since January and my disability runs out in January 2006. I am hoping to be well enough to work by then, but it's hard to know. Also, is it a good idea to shop for bras before the surgery? Sorry for the barrage of questions! I'm justr feeling a little anxious, not knowing what to expect! Guest guest
Hi, Where are you and who is doing your surgery. Did you have a mastectomy or augmentation. I felt better after removal, and depending on who does your surgery you may look great. I had a mastectomy on one side, so I have nothing there. If they do the proper procedure (many say they do enbloc, but do not), then you should feel better after surgery. There is some toxins from anaesthesia, so that may affect you for a short time. It took me two years to think I might live, I was so very ill. Many feel better immediately. We need to detox our bodies to help us feel better often. Guest guest
I had an augmentation. I don't know if there has been any rupture, but I started to feel bad about a month after the surgery. The first symptom was vertigo, and I slid downhill from there. I also developed a small lump near my implant-- don't know yet what it is. I'm afraid to get a mamammogram, due to the threat of rupture. I'm requesting its removal during explantation. I chose the somewhat controversial Dr. Melmed, after reading many posts by women who went to him. I know some people are suspicious of his claim that it is not always possible to get out every bit of the capsules without danger to the woman, but I still feel in my gut that he's the man. He has done many, many en bloc procedures and is concerned enough to have the capsules analyzed afterwards. It's a real financial stretch for me to go to him, but he's less than the other highly-recommended doctors and closer to where I live (California). I couldn't find anyone here I felt comfortable with--I tried two surgeon's lists that have been circulating. Dr. Melmed does use drains, but typically removes them after two days. I am a little leery about flying home just two days after surgery, but I'll be glad to get back home. Thanks for any and all advice! I sure had a ton of them!I noticed some changes almost immediately after explant (particularly the rash). It took over a year before I started feeling a lot better. Looking back, I realize I was improving, it just was gradual. I still have a ways to go.I had silicone implants too - actually 'double lumen' (silicone & saline) but the saline was long gone. The silicone implants were ruptured. I sure understand how you feel. I just posted a long message to Lea, explaining what a mess I was just a year and a half ago. It has been a short time, it just feels like forever. I have improved remarkably in that time. It makes such a difference. Do you know if your implant(s) are ruptured? I got one sports bra before explant, and a couple later - after I began healing. For awihle, I kept the velco 'wrap' that the surgeon used. Will you have drains? Guest guest
Hi Melinda, I think you might want to consider Dr. Huang in Denver, who always removes the scar capsules en bloc. She is about half of what Dr. Melmed charges. www.lindahuangmd.com We are concerned with Dr. Melmed, as the scar capsule should NEVER even be opened during surgery, as that allows many more toxins and much more exposure to silicone. I wish you the best. This is a tough time for you. Lynda At 12:50 PM 9/4/2005, you wrote: >I had an augmentation. Guest guest
It took me 5 years to really feel like I might have a life, so don't give up hope. It was two years until I thought I might actually live through the whole thing. Guest guest
It is that: " Whenever he can " that really hits me. There is no excuse not to remove capsules from silicone. Guest guest
Molly, My recommendation is that he post where you have recommended, and then send us a link. Others may have different recommendations. I am sure you will hear from them soon. Thanks, Lynda At 06:00 PM 9/6/2005, you wrote: >I understand that concern Lynda. I don't have an answer for it. Guest guest
Molly, One problem I'm having with what Dr. Melmed says is why, if he ALWAYS removes silicone gel capsules, is it EVER too dangerous to remove all the saline capsules?
