Hi Allyson,

Consider it this way . . . IF your implant is

contaminated, if it's shedding silicone particles, if

the capsule is inflammed because of the fight your

body is mounting against your implants out, would you

want to leave any of that mess behind?

Many women have had their implants removed and the

capsules left behind . . . while their doctors tell

them that their implants aren't the cause of their

problems, and having them removed isn't going to help

them. . . Duh! . . .

The best bet for getting better is to have your

implants removed en bloc. . . that means removing the

capsules with the implants still inside. It takes

considerably more time and skill (especially if they

are under the muscle!). Dr. Feng is probably the

doctor closest to you who we can count on to do the

job right. She's not cheap . . . but she's excellent!

We have a number of doctors in our list of recommended

doctors. If you want to look at the list, and if you

see one you think you may want to use, you can ask and

maybe one of the ladies here can tell you more about

him/her.

In the meantime, do everything you can to get in the

best condition possible! . . . Eat healthy (Check " The

Maker's Diet " . . . avoid stress as much as possible,

get plenty of sleep, moderate exercise, etc. Most

women who've had implants have a problem with systemic

candida. If you'll read " The Yeast Connection " , or a

similar book, you'll know more than I can tell you in

a message!

The good news is that you can feel much, much better.

It takes time and effort. . . But the results are will

worth it all.

Have you seen the 'list' of doctors familiar with explants? There are several

in Florida and

Georgia, and Texas, but I don't know of any in South Carolina. I would want

someone

familiar with en bloc procedure, and also someone who is (at the very least) not

hostile to

the idea that implants can be a problem. If a surgeon does not believe implants

can ever

be a problem, then what is his/her incentive to be as thorough as possible

cleaning out

the area (I'm thinking silicone, but I'm sure that would be true with saline &

bacteria as

well). I know everyone does not feel that way, but I did. When I was looking

for doctors,

the nurse of one surgeon tell me " The doctor does not believe silicone implants

are

harmful, even if they are ruptured " . I quickly wrote that doctor off my list.

I had Dr. Kolb. I felt she did an excellent job, and at least I knew that she

would take the

care necessary to remove all the silicone she could find. That was important to

me

because I was so sick, and had ruptured implants. Also, she worked with

insurance , and

that was important. THere are a number of surgeons who can do a good job, of

course.

I do not think that going back to your original surgeon would be your best choice for several reasons.... first if he has never removed capsules before then he isn't experienced with implant related disease which would make me nervous ... second, a lot of times the implanting surgeon doesn't want to admit there was any problems with the implants or implant related illness so he may hide info or try to convince you to let him "keep" the implants so he can send them back to the factory for quality reasons.... please do not do this - keep your implants as they need to be analyzed to give you the keys to getting your health back. I have heard of MANY doctors making up all kinds of stories so you don't get them back as they do not want you to have any proof of implant failure or contamination, etc..... I would definitely seek explant elsewhere.

I used one of the docs listed in Florida(Dr. Bridge) as I live there. He did a good job and I would recommend him. I am sure he is nowhere nearly as experienced with enbloc removal as Dr. Feng or Huang or the others recommended on the site as he is a younger doc but he believed my implants were making me sick.... did the removal including the capsules - intact, and wrote letters that helped me win my insurance appeal as when he saw the implants upon removal he knew they were leaking and actually noted that they looked moldy.

Nobody can tell you who the best doctor for you will be... I went to the doctor I found as he was much less expensive and very close to my home - luckily he turned out to do a very good job and I would highly recommend him. Had I had a lot more money I may have chosen one of the other docs that many have used here, but we were broke and I had to have them out and had a 2 year old at home and couldn't really travel. Picking a doctor is a serious choice as who you pick may have a direct impact on your healing, etc., so I would take as many responses as you can from this matter from the other girls and the doctors they used and their experiences, and pick from there.
