Guest guest
I've had the TV on all day today, listening to the commentators as the Hurricane closes in on the New Orleans area. . . I cannot imagine the stress everyone is under watching this mamoth storm close in on their homes. Please know that we're joining you in prayer that the storm drops off in intensity and no harm is done. . . . Please be safe. God Bless, Rogene
Guest guest
A your message was not released earlier when you wrote it as it required me releasing it and I was not online last nite or this morning to do so due to personal matters. For the love of God, I live in Florida on the Gulf Coast - I have a lot going on right now with these storms looming over us to deal with - by the way there is another right around the corner possibly waiting to hit us. I have been a little preoccupied with my families safety rather than moderating the group - I would hope we all can be grown up enough to understand that. I think we all are very concerned with the well being of the people in the hurricane devastated areas.... I was in the middle of three of them last year so I understand completely. It is incredibly scary knowing that these storms are out there and can change paths at any minute - I have been through many as I have lived here my entire life. The fact that one persons well wishing message was posted before another does not make any one of them less important or appreciated. shari
Guest guest
Lea It is a very sad day... we were luckily spared this storm but it is hard to feel good about that with all the horror that these people are going through... I have been there and it is awful. I have prayed for them and wish them all the luck in the world!! We have been lucky so far as far as damage goes.... we may not be so lucky the next time which is looking to be pretty soon! Life in Florida..... This is what was worried about all weekend - with that monster in the gulf, it could have turned at any time and came right for us... we watch the news here like hawks.... The forecasters have been wrong before.... thanks love shari
Guest guest
My inlaws can still not go home - they live in Biloxi, and have no idea how their house fared. At least they are safe. Still, my father-in-law is 86 and mother-in-law is 79, and this is not easy on them. I can tell my father-in-law is especially worried, because it sounds like in Biloxi, Katrina did more damage than Camille in 1969. We got brushed by a Category-1 Katrina, before it strengthened in the gulf. Fortunately, we had only minor damage. We found shutters hanging and screeens blown out when we returned from Colorado a couple days ago. > A > > your message was not released earlier when you wrote it as it required me > releasing it and I was not online last nite or this morning to do so due to > personal matters. > > For the love of God, I live in Florida on the Gulf Coast - I have a lot going > on right now with these storms looming over us to deal with - by the way > there is another right around the corner possibly waiting to hit us. Guest guest
Hi Molly and welcome... How sad for your inlaws to not be able to go home! I hope their house is safe. I am glad that you fared well too. It must be so scary to see a hurricane in full force. I've never experienced it, and hope I never do! How are you feeling? Guest guest
Thanks Glory. I am feeling fine, just anxious for my inlaws. THe damage to our home was minimal, and we were in Colorado when it hit so we did not suffer through the heat without electricity. (Thank God). We don't know how long it will be before my inlaws can find out if they still have a house in Biloxi. Actually, I guess I'm feeling a little drained and wrung out from vacation and traveling back home, and then the excitement of dealing with Katrina. I just thank GOD it was minor damage here, but wish my inlaws could go home and not have to sit and worry without knowing. > > > A > > > > > > your message was not released earlier when you wrote it as it > required me > > > releasing it and I was not online last nite or this morning to > do so due to > > > personal matters. > > > > > > For the love of God, I live in Florida on the Gulf Coast - I > have a lot going > > > on right now with these storms looming over us to deal with - by > the way > > > there is another right around the corner possibly waiting to hit > us. Guest guest
Thanks, Shari. Our family is in shock, right now. My inlaws can't go home to see what happened to their home in BIloxi, but we do know that others in the family who live in New Orleans had their homes destroyed. It will take a long time for these wounds to heal. We still have not heard from family in Mobile and only hope they are safe. > Molly > > I feel so very sorry for your family.... Guest guest
I am sorry for your inlaws. I know it could have been much worse, but it was still a very tragic storm. I can't imagine going back home to that kind of flooding and devastation. The damage has to be so much more widespread and insidious (santitation issues) than tornado damage. At your inlaws age, it would be doubly hard to face the damage. however, it has always amazed me how we can all band together in times of crisis. Guest guest
Oh Lynda you are so right. We do not have flood insurance, and were just lucky that Katrina hit south of us - even when it was a cat-1, there were areas of Miami that were flooded. My inlaws do not have flood insurance and their house is in Biloxi! Guest guest
Shari, I know - we live in south florida, in boca raton (just north of fort lauderdale). We live east of I-95, so we are socked with wind insurance. We dont have flood insurance, because we can't afford it! We have to have wind insurance for the mortgage, but we would never be able to replace our home, if we had floods like they had in Biloxi, or New Orleans. > I agree > > Living in the gulf area myself in Florida, when you get homeowners you either > pay separate for " optional " hurricane or you have a massive deductible.... we > went w/ the deductible. Guest guest
Me too shari. What a terrible stress to be constantly on the watch for these storms. And I thought tornado season was stressful enough where I live! The destruction from this storm is so immense that it is hard to even comprehend all that has been lost. I know we will all rally around those who need it. Tragedy has a way of bringing people closer together. One thing I did think about though. How lucky we have been in america. We are always reading where an earthquake, mudslide, or other natural disaster has hit some third world country and though it is sad, we read about it and forget it, even though often hundreds or thousands are dead as a result. But when it hits in your own country, it just really hits home--the tragedy of it all. I was already crying this morning reading more about neonatal intensive care babies being airlifted to hospitals and all the other sad stories about people who have still not been rescued when I read about the eight hundred or more Iraqi's--almost all women and children--who were killed in a stampede trying to get off a bridge when they heard a suicide bomber was near. And I wonder how many women and children live in constant fear there too. It makes me realize how very much I have to be thankful for and also what a blessing it is for us to be able to give to those less fortunate than ourselves.
