Guest guest
Hi ladies, I haven't been on this forum much, but thought I'd check in.. I haven't come here much because it is a saline support, and I consider most of my problems were sililcone related. I had bi-lumen implants (saline & silicone) but my surgeon said by the time I removed them in April, 2004, the saline was 'long gone'. The silicone 'lumens' were ruptured and I was a mess physically and emotionally. By the time I finally had the explant, I was diagnosed with one problem after another within a short time (Hashimoto's, lupus, multiple sclerosis, and a host of symptoms like Raynauds, carpel tunnel, peripheral neruopathy etc etc). I was in a state of shock, and dont' even remember much of what was going on or how I found some of the support forums. It's been a year and a half now, and I am starting to feel better. What a long road it's been.
Guest guest
Molly, This group is as much for gel implanted women as it is for saline . . . There are a number of us who had silicone gel . . . I did, and I know Lynda did. Lea had the awful polyurethane implants. It doesn't matter . . . They all make you sick if you keep them long enough. I'm glad to hear you're doing better. It takes time, and even then, at least for me, I have to stay on my " program " or I regress. Most of the time I feel well though! What have you been doing to get better? Hugs, Rogene
Guest guest
Well, I went on Dr. Kolb's protocol for awhile, but then lapsed. I got very sick and ended up in the hospital again in July of 04 with c-difficile bacterial infection. I haven't been very good with diet, consistently, anyway. I did take a lot of epsom soaks. In the last several months, I have begun feeling better. SO in answer to your question, I suppose just time has helped more than anything. However, I know I need to focus on diet now. IT's time. I know that will help the severe fatigue I still feel. Much of the pain has improved but I still take plaquenil. I didn't focus on diet as I probably should have, because I was trying to cope with one thing at a time. Now I realize that I am going to have to focus on diet and lose the weight if I want to work again. I have a lot to lose - I gained over 100 pounds! I am a far cry from the jogger I once was. > Molly, > > This group is as much for gel implanted women as it is > for saline . . . There are a number of us who had > silicone gel . . . Guest guest
I had double lumen silicone/saline. Many problems. Many women here have had silicone implants. Feel free to share. Guest guest
Dear Molly, It takes one step at a time . . . If you try to do everything at once, you'll feel overwhelmed and give up! . . . It's better to familiarize yourself with the detox protocols and incorporate them into your routine. Seeing results will motivate you to keep going. We stress a lot of natural treatments. . . They don't seem to have the side effects that many of the prescription meds do . . . and they work! Have you checked the Detox programs we recommended in the archives? I've found that when I'm feeling well, I have no problem controlling my weight . . . it's when I don't feel like doing anything that it comes on fast and furious. I'd suggest reading " The Maker's Diet " . . . it's not just a diet book. It will help you understand why it's important to stay away from processed foods and to provide your body with foods that help rebuild and replenish cells. Kenda recommends a naturopath in Tulsa, OK who does phone consulations, and sends kits for the specimens he feels need testing. If money isn't too tight, I'd suggest checking with him. Setting a little time aside for exercising everyday, even if you don't feel up to it, will start the tide turning. . . Even starting with five minutes and increasing a minute a day will help you kick start a program. Molly, I hope by this time next year, you can look back on this all as a bad dream! If you'll keep a daily journal of your progress . . . You'll be amazed at how far you've come! Hugs, Rogene
Guest guest
Thank you Rogene! Yes, I was too overwhelmed last year. Plus, I was not able to move around much, let alone cook a lot. The very first thing I am doing now, is to stop sugar. And, I have looked at the South Beach Diet, and tried one or two of hte recipes there. I'll look at the " Maker's " diet...someone mentioned it to me recently, but not sure what it is. I do understand the hazards of processed foods, though. That is a great idea about exercise. I can't do a lot, but I know even 5 or 10 minute walk would be a start. I also have trouble sleeping, and need to get into a routine. Now that I am back from Colorado, I intend to start DOING something about this. I'll look in your archives. I am also going to start a journal. I tried that for awhile last year, but was so depressed then I didn't stay up with it. Now I can... I appreciate your encouragement! Even now, I can look back a year ago and realize how far I have come. Next year, I hope to say the same, only about my diet & weight. In Colorado (where I saw my mother and daughter & grandson), I had a lot of trouble with the altitude. I was out of breath and aching after just walking a few minutes. It's been about six years since I was there, and I was much thinner then (and not sick) - I jogged 3 miles at 10,000'. Boy I could not do that this time. I don't know if I will ever be able to jog in the mountains again, but I would be satisifed with a long walk and getting to a normal weight. Money is tight now, because I haven't worked in several years - I went to law school when I was 46. I believe my implants ruptured just before I started school, when I had a mammogram. By the time I graduated, I was getting really sick. And then in the fall of 2003, I was going to the round of doctors to find out what was wrong with me, and then found out my implants were ruptured. > Dear Molly, > > It takes one step at a time . . . Guest guest
Molly, There are a lot of little things you can do . . . One step at a time. . . When you do any of these things, find a balance between what you can do comfortably, what puts a little stress on you, and what feels too much. You want to feel a little stress, but never push yourself too hard - or you won't want to do it again. If you could afford to go to a spa where you put yourself in their hands, that would be one thing . . . But, when you're working on your own, slow and easy is the way to go. You'll find yourself gradually substituting healty choices for bad ones . . . Oh yes, drink plenty of pure water . . . they claim we often eat when we're really just thirsty! Eating raw, crushed, fresh garlic is one of the fastest, cheapest ways to get a jump start on getting better . . . If you have a candida problem, your stomach will know . . . so start easy there too . . . Start with one clove and work your way up to 12 (if you can) . . . I've only gotten to five! Patty can do 12! It's past bedtime! Hugs and prayers, Rogene

Guest guest
I find that eating garlic cloves raw with chicken is very palatable. And eating raw garlic was one of the most helpful things I did. It's a great health promoter! Guest guest
Molly . . . Yep . . . entire cloves . . . not whole cloves. The way I usually eat them is to mash them with a garlic press and spread the garlic with a bit of mayo on a piece of whole wheat bread and top it with a bit of meat. I've also put it in salads, added it to spagetti as I put it on the table (so it's not cooked) and spread it on pizza. Another way to get it down is to use empty gel capsules (you can get them from a formulating pharmacy), opening the capsule, and scraping the crushed garlic from the press with one half, then closing the capsule and downing it. The active chemical in garlic is released when the clove is crushed. Eating garlic whole doesn't release the chemical. There are a number of commercial garlic products available. If you simply can't bring yourself to eat fresh garlic, I'd suggest buying one of the better (and more expensive) brands. Once you see the difference eating raw garlic makes, I think you'll decide it's the way to go though! Something else that's very important is to replace the beneficial bacteria in your body that has been killed off by a depressed immune system and medications. That's where products like acidopholis and Primal Defense come in. Eating organic, fermented foods is an excellent way to go. I have a great recipe for home made sauerkraut I posted some time ago. . . I didn't save the recipe on my computer, so I need to retype it .. . . Unless someone else saved it. Patty maybe? I'm watching the news reports coming in from the Hurricane. . . The devastation is so sad! It will take years to recover from this one! Guest guest
Thanks Rogene! I will try the garlic. I am starting today on my new 'diet'. NO sugar. High protein, lots of veggies & taking acidopholous (again). > Molly . . . > > Yep . . . entire cloves . . . not whole cloves. > > The way I usually eat them is to mash them with a > garlic press and spread the garlic with a bit of mayo > on a piece of whole wheat bread and top it with a bit > of meat. Guest guest
The hurricane damage is devastating. My inlaws are in shock and still cannot go home, if they still have a home (in Biloxi). My husband's aunt & cousin in Mobile cannot be reached, so nobody knows how they are doing. My brother-in-law has family in New Orleans, whose homes have been destroyed. It is just horrible. Guest guest
I think you might want to read the Maker's Diet by JOrdin Rubin. It is a real good guide about eating to get well. I think you would really benefit from it. Please visit our site more often. You definitely belong here as much as any one else. You will find lots of good advice on all kinds of ways to get better as well as lots of good support and concern! This is a very caring group. Things take time. I am sure that eventually you can lose the weight and even start jogging again! This summer I have walked anywhere from 2-4 miles on a daily basis! That wouldn't have been possible even a year ago. ARe you taking primal defense from Garden of Life? I strongly recommend it since you said that you had c difficile. It is very important that you take probiotics especially saccharomyces boulardii because that helps prevent c difficile. Primal Defense contains that strain and many more plus hso's and many of us here swear by it. Guest guest
Hi Molly, I'm talking about cloves of garlic that have been crushed. . . Not chopped garlic . . . Garlic is a natural antifungal, antibiotic and antioxident. One of nature's miracle foods. When it's crushed a chemical is released that makes it work. In contrast to prescription antibiotics, one doesn't build up a resistance to garlic. If you have a systemic candida/fungal problem going on, you can expect your stomach feel like there is a war going on between the good and bad forces. . . This one form of herxing . . . As you begin getting better, you'll be able to eat larger quantities of garlic with little effect. There is a self test you can do for Candida . . . The first thing in the morning, before putting anything in your mouth, spit in a glass of water - about a tablespoon of spit. Let it sit for about 15 minutes, then check. If it's clear, or lightly cloudly, no problem. If there is a milkly blob floating with tendrils hanging down, or it has broken into floating chunks, or it's a blob laying at the bottom of the glass, it can indicate that you have a Candida problem. This test is not scientific. However, it tracks very well with treatment for Candida, and the diet necessary to get it under control. Most doctors poo-poo Candida. . . saying everybody has Candida organisms. They're right! . . . It's just that, for us, the Candida gets the upper hand. When it does, it causes a host of problems, including an inability to get vital nutrition from our foods. If there is any single product I recommend above all others, it's Garden of Life's Primal Defense - check www.vitacost.com. You can get similar results with naturally fermented foods and acidopholis. . . If you get acidopholis, be sure you buy it from the refigerated section of the health food store and keep it refigerated. Hope this helps . . . You'll be amazed at how much better you'll feel in a just a few weeks if you make a committment to do what needs to be done . . . even if you don't feel like it right now! Guest guest
I can't imagine how they can get even water and food to so many people when roads are impassable and fuel in short supply . . .let alone find housing and provide schooling for the children for the long term . .. . and jobs for those who no longer have a place to work! I pray your family members will find their way though this trial quickly. Hugs, Rogene
Guest guest
I know I have had candida/systemic fungal problem. Dr. K gave me nystantin and later, when my liver could handle it, diflucan for it. But I will try the garlic -- I do know what a clove garlic is, I just wasn't thinking for a minute there. lol! I will try the crushed garlic. Thanks! > Hi Molly, > > I'm talking about cloves of garlic that have been > crushed. . . Guest guest
Thank you Kathy! I will visit here more. I haven't seen the " Maker's Diet " yet but I will look for it. Until recently, I haven't had the energy to cook or do much of anything which has made it hard to eat properly. Also, I was so depressed for awhile, I just was not taking care of myself very well. But now I am feeling better, although my energy is still low. I am starting to eat better, and am taking probiotics. I have taken primal defense but ran out of it. (My doctor recommended that also). I need to get some more - my husband's next paycheck lol. I want to get to the point of walking a mile or two every day. That is going to take some time. I still have trouble sleeping, too. I was taking sleeping pills still, but have decided they really are not helping so I am going to quit those. > > > Molly, > > > > > > This group is as much for gel implanted women as it is > > > for saline . . . Guest guest
Is " The Maker's Diet " a Christian book? I am not very religious, and am Jewish... so I don't know if that is for me or not. I just looked it up and found it at a Christian bookstore? > > > Molly, > > > > > > This group is as much for gel implanted women as it is > > > for saline . . . Guest guest
Molly . . . I'm laughing . . . The writer is Jewish by birth . . . But, I believe, he is Christian by religion . . . The book is not about religion though. He believes the Jewish food traditions arose from health concerns. Based on your Jewish background, you would probably appreciate the book even more than those of us who are not Jewish. I understand a number of the churches have endorsed the book . . . so that's probably why you found it in a Christian book store. Guest guest
Molly, The best price I've found for Garden of Life products is on www.vitacost.com . . . Have you tried Celestial Seasonings Sleepy Time tea for helping to put you in a sleep mode? The only medication I still take regularly is Temazapam (15 mg). . . a sleep med. . . I can quit without withdrawal, but even after months off it, I wake everytime my hubby stirs. Since I feel so much better when I sleep deeply, I'm going to keep taking this one. Doctors, who understand the connection between sleep and Fibromyalgia, are OK with prescribing it at that level. Hugs, Rogene
Guest guest
I just bought this book on Half.com. I'll give it a look - it sounds good, at least with regards to diet and tips and such. > > > Molly, > > > > > > This group is as much for gel implanted women as it is > > > for saline . . .
