I want to thank all of you for your support and love during this tough

time. And, I thought I would share a poem I wrote for my friend Carolyn

when she was hospitalized less than 2 years ago for this illness she died

from, Hemolytic Anemia.

DEAR FRIEND

It seems I appreciate friends

The older and older I grow

They help when life sometimes

Has too much ebb and flow.

It is not always fair

This life on earth we lead

And friends help us along

In our hour of need.

I've learned that I cannot change

Many things in life

And that ultimately and ever

I have to deal with strife.

I've learned that illness comes

Without regard to who

Or what a person is

Or anything I do.

The way that I should live

I've learned, is give and take

And giving's the most joyous

Choice that I can make.

I've learned that being alone

Is not something to fear

And that quiet sometimes brings

Peace and serenity here.

I've learned that my family

And friends are what's most dear

And that other things are just

Parts of life we bear.

And you are a dear friend

The best life can bestow

Kind, thoughtful, and true

Just thought I'd let you know.

I love you Carolyn.

Lynda Roth

May you all have such lovely friends as Carolyn has been to me. And

hopefully I was to her.

Thank you and God bless all of us with wonderful friends.

Dear Lynda,

Thank you for sharing your poem for Carolyn . . . It

is beautiful!

Your love comes through so clearly. I know she was

proud to call you her friend!

I'm saving your poem. . . Do you mind if I share it

with others and credit you?

Love,

Rogene

No, Rogene, I seldom share these things, but thought my experience might

help others. So, feel free to share it.

Lynda,

You have a gift . . . perhaps you should consider

putting a book of your poems together. I'm know you

would bring words to the feelings of so many who can't

express themselves.

There are some web groups that help independent

writers find their niche. You might find it

emotionally rewarding. I don't know about the

financial part. I believe financial risk is minimal.

If you're interested, I'll see if I can find the group

I have in mind. My daughter is considering a book for

caretakers on occupational/physical therapy. I sent

the website info to her.

Rogene

Rogene,

I did put a book of my poems together, years ago when I was going through

cancer, chemo, silicone and a divorce after 30 years of marriage. It was

interesting, because I had to go back and go through all the childhood

issues that I had never completely dealt with before I could deal with the

things going on at the time. I have not included later poems, like the one

I wrote at the FDA hearings and handed to Kessler ('92) or things like

that. Nor have I included this one. I gave them to my kids and dear

friends. I shared some with therapist friends (I have a masters in social

work, so many friends were therapists). I gave one to my oncologist.

I had one poem published some years back. It was reflective of healing. I

might be interested in doing that again.

Thanks,

Lynda

Lynda,

That you could compose poems on all those experiences

is amazing! . . . I don't know how many of us could do

that! I'm sure it went a long way towards helping you

heal.

I'm going to look up that website on my other address.

You might find an audio file on self-publishing on

www.npr.org. I hope you decide to share your thoughts

with the world!

God Bless,

Very beautiful and touching, Lynda. Carolyn must have been an incredible friend, and very lucky to have you as a friend.

Kenda

I want to thank all of you for your support and love during this tough

when she was hospitalized less than 2 years ago for this illness she died

DEAR FRIEND

Many things in life

And that ultimately and ever

Without regard to who

Kind, thoughtful, and true

Just thought I'd let you know.

I love you Carolyn.

Thanks, Ilena.

I am exhausted. It was a good memorial service. So many wonderful memories.

I am sure my energy will return soon.

Shari,

I gave this poem to her almost two years ago when she was in the hospital

the first time. She knew how much I loved her.

She was truly a loving, kind, sweet, and wonderful friend. And sorely

missed. There are too few like her in this world.

Hi Shari,

I think the tough part comes in the following weeks when you want to call

that person, share something, do something together and it really hits you

that you cannot. But, life is tough, we heal, we get on with being the

best we can be, and try to share and care and help others again.

Thanks,

Lynda
