Guest guest
Well, this is a step in the right direction! You sound like you're at where I was towards the last part of last year. After getting myself into decent shape following a rough period in my life, I let myself fall into disrepair and was wallowing in a sea of depression and self-loathing. In my case, I started looking for a more structured way of reclaiming myself. I started with the South Beach Diet and increased my activity level. I first heard of BFL in the beginning of Jan. of this year.. .was skeptical... had some success with what I was doing, but was still fat and unhappy, and then one day in very early February literally woke up and NEW that I couldn't accept being the way I was, and NEW that I had to BFL and make it work for me. I'm happy to say it did work quite well. Here's why I feel it worked so well for me: I sat down before my start date and made a list of every possible excuse under the sun I might come up with for not working out (which was the bigger change than eating right for me). I then methodically came up with ways to eliminate those excuses. For me, those included things like not " having anything to wear the gym. " So, I went naked. Kidding, of course. Would have been very motivating for everyone else, though...yeesh! Anyways, spent the $ on workout clothes I felt comfortable in. I started changing patterns such as what time I got up in the morning so that I could do my workouts first thing because I am always fatigued after work and it is too hard to resist the Call of the Couch. I think more than anything, this is what got me through the challenge. When you've no excuse NOT to do something, you do it. The other key is plan, plan, plan. Surround yourself with motivated contacts is also something I find works good. This group, from what I have seen, seems very motivated. Break it into a smaller challenge...just focus on one week or one day at a time. 12 weeks is daunting; one week is tolerable. Live for a day of rest, and beat the heck out of yourself the rest of the week. All things I've been focusing on. Anyways... good luck! :-) -Lianne > How do I un-develop a life style I have done for the past 2 years. I > know I am over-weight, unhappy, depressed. When I try to do right I > fail. Any secrets? Guest guest
I don't know what your lifestyle has been like for the past two years, but apparently you haven't been happy with it. Most people don't change until they have enough pain in their life to do so. It sounds like you have arrived. Being a serious weight lifter won't solve all your problems (but it won't hurt either.) Your problem may be deeper than your weight and shape. 50 more pounds of muscle may not bring happiness. It is important to get a grip on what your problems really are. If there is nothing that you can do about your past, then learn to live in the present. Forget about your failures - they are history. You need a fresh start. It is time to set some new goals and work out a plan to carry out those goals. You should also work on staying motivated. Listen to motivational speakers. Read all you can about exercising and weight control. Surround yourself with positive people who will also motivate you to do the right things. Perhaps you could make a decision today that you are going to make a lifestyle change. Change will not occur until you decide to start and have a plan to carry out your plan. If this is not a priority in your life, you just aren't going to get it done. Hope you do. Still pumping rubber Ken > How do I un-develop a life style I have done for the past 2 years. Guest guest
Ken, Thank you for your kind words. I have made a decision....I call it GTFPO (can't spell it out but you can guess). Will start to plan tonight! DD > > How do I un-develop a life style I have done for the past 2 years. > I > > know I am over-weight, unhappy, depressed. When I try to do right I > > fail. Guest guest
I was on anxiety meds this time last year and up until February, so I'm intimately familiar with anxiety and depression and what it takes to get rid of them. Be happy to talk any time! As you can tell by my Yahoo! ID, I don't come from an inactive past, either... but I have a really bad tendency to let myself fall prey to self-destructive behaviours. ;-) Glad you're finding your way!! > > > How do I un-develop a life style I have done for the past 2 > years. > > I > > > know I am over-weight, unhappy, depressed. Guest guest
Andy, Just joined a gym, umathoourized foods in a separate cabinet due to other inhabitants in the house. I start in the gym tommorow. DD > > Redar and re-read the book, but keep stalling.
Guest guest
Lianne, I have been diagnosed with anxiety, but meds are not the ticket for me. When I was in shape before I was in controll. I know everyone is different and this is how I choose to deal with myself. Thank you again for your kind words. Guest guest
You're welcome. I'm not good at kicking people in the butt. Wish I were, just not me. ;-) Yep, that's the ticket for me too; getting in shape. The more fit I get, the easier it gets to channel it into some sort of activity and get rid of all the tension. > > > > > How do I un-develop a life style I have done for the past 2 > > > years. > > > > I > > > > > know I am over-weight, unhappy, depressed. Guest guest
Divorced, have a boyfriend. I work in sales (I'm a sales engineer), and absolutely detest where I work (which is something I'm rectifying during this challenge...also job hunting). Anyways, there were some substantial issues with both work and my boyfriend last year, combined with problems with mortgage company that resulted in having all my stuff in between a storage trailer and a cargo trailer and the concern of being homeless as a result of having to move out of my apartment as well... throw being overweight and out of shape on top of all that, and needless to say, found myself shaking, sweating, blacking out and hyperventilating way too many times! No concerns about being rude... those kinds of factors all contribute to anxiety. > > > > > > > How do I un-develop a life style I have done for the past > 2 > > > > > years. > > > > > > I > > > > > > > know I am over-weight, unhappy, depressed. Guest guest
Well, lets see if I can guess what GTFPO means. I bet it means " Get The Fitness Program On. " Would that be close? :-) Still pumping Rubber Ken > > > How do I un-develop a life style I have done for the past 2 > years. > > I > > > know I am over-weight, unhappy, depressed. Guest guest
One of the biggest factors with anxiety is when a person tries to live in the future. The future isn't here yet, so why worry about it. Spend more time living in the present and you will be happier. Guest guest
Ehhhh I gave up on the future awhile ago. ;-) All about channeling that worry into some other outlet... venting that frustration with the " now " can make for some seriously productive workouts I find. *grin* -Lianne > One of the biggest factors with anxiety is when a person tries to > live in the future.
