August 24 Message Text: As you know, on July 28, the FDA announced its intent to approve Mentor implants. It is time to turn up the heat on FDA Commissioner Lester Crawford and his boss, Secretary of Health and Human Services Mike Leavitt. So on Wednesday August 24 we would like your help for a national phone-in protest. That’s right, on Wednesday August 24 we want all our activists to call the FDA and HHS. Let’s see if we can flood their switchboards. We are asking you to make two toll-free phone calls, one to Commissioner Crawford’s office and one to Secretary Leavitt’s office, to voice your objections to FDA approval for silicone breast implants. And spread the word to you friends and families to make calls too! Phone Numbers: FDA Commissioner Dr. Lester Crawford: 1-888-463-6332; then press option 3 “contact employee†and ask the operator for Lester Crawford’s office. For HHS Secretary Mike Leavitt: 1-877-696-6775; an operator will answer and ask for the Office of the Secretary And here is what you should tell them: I am calling to voice my concern that the FDA has expressed its intent to approve silicone breast implants made by Mentor Corporation--despite the lack of safety data and despite serious allegations that the company misrepresented safety information. The FDA must reject Mentor and Inamed’s (in-a-med) pre-market applications. Both companies provided only 2-3 years of data about implant rupture for a product that women will rely on for the rest of their lives. Safety must come first! Approval of silicone breast implants based on such limited data will undermine the integrity of FDA as the defender of public health. I urge the FDA to stand up for women’s health and reject both PMAs. After you make you calls, please email us at info@... and toxic@... to tell us you made the call and what the response was. Thank you for stepping up your activity to help us as we approach the FDA’s decision day. COPY AND SAVE THIS EMAIL FOR THE 24TH. PLACE IT BY YOUR PHONE SO YOU DO NOT FORGET – WE CHALLENGE YOU TO ALSO ASK 5 FAMILY MEMBERS OR FRIENDS TO DO THE SAME!

Guest guest
Pardon . . . That last message got away from me! I'm really upset right now. I'm going to be gone tomorrow, so I called the FDA and HH today . . . Apparently the HH is prepared for us . .. They sent me to an electronic switchboard that doesn't work . . . I did talk with someone at the FDA . . . Actually, I made an impassioned plea that the FDA take a serious look at what breast implants are doing to the children born to women with implants. After 40 years, there should be at least one serious study. There's not! The impression I got was that they were totally ignorant of the problems experienced by the offspring of implanted women. I did get through to a lady named Vicki at the Center for Devices who heard me out and is going pass my plea onto someone who MAY be interested. (I was given this number when I called HH back and reported the mailboxes didn't work.) . . . I was then connected with a menu of names . . . I chose Vicki because that's my daughter's name. I'm pleading, begging, down on my knees! Please, please call the numbers in the attachment below! Don't accept the bum's rush . . . Keep going until you find people willing to listen! I was given a number to call for information about the MedWatch reports Freedom of Information - 301 827-6508. I haven't checked them yet . . I really need to calm down first! I want to know how many MedWatch reports for adverse reactions have been filed? How many for children? The line I kept getting is that we need to be reporting incidences on MedWatch reports! I asked if anyone was looking at them! No reponse . . . I told them there was testimony about the children's issues at the April, 2005 FDA meeting. I asked why the children hadn't been studied? No response. I mentioned the plastic surgeons walking out when the testimony was about the children! It's high time we told the government officials what we think . . . not necessarily as nicely as the message below does! . . . Letting your emotion and passion for these women and children show may help - it certainly won't hurt! We need to do more than stop Mentor's approval. The women and children who have already experienced these devices MUST be studied before more women and children are put at risk. A choice for breast implants is no choice, unless it's a safe choice! I have a feeling it's going to take everyone of us to stop this! . . . If we don't, who will? Rogene Schorer Note: forwarded message attached. Note: forwarded message attached.
