Guest guest
Thanks so much for your good wishes.  One other good thing about it that I didn’t mention, is that I had been warned that I’d have to do a Driving test in the process that would cost another $200 or so, since it entails a professional Driving Instructor with his dual control car, plus the attendance of an Occupational Therapist..  But Vicroads has assured me that I don’t require the test at all.  Just take up driving straight away. My doctors’ reports must have been sufficient. Hm I’m intrigued you don’t seem to have ‘Gas’ over there.  Where “petrol’ costs us about $1.20 per Litre at the moment, (it chops up and down all over the place day by day at the whim of the Oil Companies) ‘Gas’ stays between 49c and 55c per litre for the most part.  A litre of Gas gives you perhaps about the same mileage as two/thirds of a litre of petrol.     Many people have dual fuel cars with two inlets – one for Petrol and the other for Gas.  Drives the same of course.  Can save a fair bit of money of course.     I suppose that a Litre represents something like a quarter of a Gallon.   The Gas is delivered into your car by a hose with an nozzle that screws into your tank inlet.  Stinks to high heaven I must say too.  So it warns you if there is a leak of any sort. Rion Subject: Re: bit of good news. Ron, I know that has to feel great! Congratulations! I am not too sure you can even buy the " gas " you have described- I have not seen it- I think we just have what you call " petrol " . Subject: RE: bit of good news. Congrats Ron! Im really very pleased for you. Happy driving! breezy Just a bit excited at the moment. I haven’t been allowed to drive since my operation which took place exactly a year ago in Melbourne. Anyway, the reports on my wobbly feet and legs from Doctor and Neurologist have been successful with the State’s driving and roads authority, and they have given me permission to drive again. tell you what, - it’s been a bit of a pain having to either get lifts with associates or use public transport to do my shopping. The other alternative has been to trot off for long long walks to the shops. As it is, I’m virtually the same distance in four directions from four different Super-markets. Often I’m out shopping for some two hours to do just the barest bit of stuff. But all the same, the extensive walking has been excellent exercise, and my improvement is pretty marked. I look like driving for a spell, in a Mitzubishi Magna that runs on Gas before I gravitate back to my own original car. Okay -- for you Americans….. the fluid you call Gas, is what we call Petrol out here in Oz. When I speak of Gas I’m meaning the genuine gaseous substance which is some half or a third of the price of Petrol. What do you term it over there? LPG or something like that perhaps? Anyway, very happy about it all. Will make life a darn sight easier for me. We are in the middle of a very cold n winter at the moment, so the convenience and shelter of a car will be welcome. For those newcomers who don’t know, one year ago I had to have a benign tumor removed from the Spinal Cord, and for a few months it left me unable to walk. Over the next five months I went from bed to wheelchair, to elbow crutches. I still use a stick when I leave the house, as my feet tend to swing round all over the place. Have to be careful too not to trip over the darned cats while in the house. All the best to everyone, Ron.
